Comedians aren't standing up, they're sitting down with their buddies doing podcasts. They're not getting drunk or high to come up with retarded movie plots. They're huffing each others farts about "the craft" and then doing dick jokes on stage.
There's also a competitiveness aspect of it as well when egos clash; Dumb and Dumber was a Jim Carrey movie and vehicle, no question. When they were casting it though, they didn't cast another comedian because he would have just heard what Jim did and said and then tried to top it. That's not what Jeff Daniels did; Jeff gave him something to bounce off of and was a nutter in his own right that didn't upstage the other guy.
Its fine having a podcast where comedians shoot the shit and make each other laugh, that's awesome. Its robbing us of a 'Caddyshack' or 'Hot Tub Time Machine'.
