Warner replaced him with Angela Basset as Amanda Waller in hopes of using her as their version of Nick Fury in the DC Cinematic Universe that “Green Lantern” was supposed to launch.

Pierce is generally kino and would have been interesting to see. What's neat about Alan Scott though is he's Golden Age and original completely mythic - influenced by Aladdin. A totally independent character. He's much less interesting when they try to force a connection to the Green Lantern Corps.
