Did they ever explain why Anakin political ideals were very authoritarian and militaristic? Even before turning to the dark side, he was already a chud and wanted a dictatorship
He wasn't allowed to have sex so he got radicalized on the HoloNet
>>223225160his entire life reinforces the idea that might is right.
>>223225160He was a slave on an ancap planet, so it makes sense that totalitarian rule as a way to prevent slavery appealed to him, at least at first.
>>223225160he's a white male
>>223225160single mom
>>223225160>>223225260Anakin read Hoppe
>>223225160The other answers are stupid as fuck. He was an edgy teen, that's it
>>223225160>IQ so low he failed to comprehend something as simple as the prequels
>>223225160He grew up as a slave believing in salvation would come at the hands of a declining democracy that would only find him by chance. They didn't free his mother or his friends, only him, because he was special to the jedi. He wanted the power to change things for Tatooine, but was never given the opportunity due to the way things were and the jedi being too locked into serving the republic instead of serving "what is good". This is what attack of the clones is actually about.
>>223225160wbu, did they ever explain why you like that color and this one?
I don't think he even had a political opinion besides being anti slavery
>>223225497Yes.
>>223225160mom got raped by muslims
>>223225160They couldn't because rebellion is a byproduct of a system. Power produces and requires its own subversion to be contained.
>>223227903This makes a lot of sense. Power needs the visible possibility of disorder in order to demonstrate mastery.
>>223225605The Republic was never going to change things for Tattooine, its a Hutt planet
>>223225160>he wanted a dictatorshipI don't think he was particularly political, or at least didn't think politically. In AOTC, he teased Padme on Naboo, but tapped into pretty illiberal and 'might makes right' ideas due to the conditions around him.
>>223225160He spent the majority of his life being told he was a special chosen one, being an impossibly strong jedi who could even go toe-to-toe with Mace and Yoda as a young man while simultaneously repeatedly failing to save those he cared about and also being unable to openly fix injustice he could see all around him. His position wasn't really political; it was the juvenile idea he could fix everything if he just had the power to do so. It's the "are you going to put the whole world in a bottle" argument.
He probably got fed up of requesting better armor for his clones and the Senate voting against the 'Law Proposition 4412/563 for the Initiative to Stablish an Special Science Think Tank' because some 4 eyed greengger in Dumbfuckistan IV was not getting enough in the budget.
People with traumatic childhoods often have "right-wing" and/or fascist tendencies. Behind many fascists is childhood where they were beaten by their fathers/mothers - literally Hitler being a famous example. Obviously not everyone, some fascists had very peaceful or persissive utopian childhoods, and communists, super libs, etc. can also have had very hard childhoods (Stalin in example), but there is a definite trend.Hell usually when times go "tough" there's a noticed trend towards societies voting more "conservative" on a mass scale.
>>223228637There is no correlation for either party.
>>223228637source: I made it up
>>223225160Anakin grew up watching his mom get bullied by a fucking space jew and then got kidnapped by pedophile monks. Of course he grew up to hate xenos and libshits.
>>223225160He had to sit by and watch the Jedi council be retarded his entire life and they couldn't even be assed to get his mom out of slavery. Of course he went the opposite way.
>aware of slavery>do nothing>tell anakin he's a bad person for even being concerned about his own mom's slaveryValid crashout by Anakin in retrospect.
>>223225160because national socialist dictatorship is da wae.
>>223225497Classic 4cuck /tv/
>>223225160So the republic is fucked because of internal bureaucracy and corrupt backroom deals with shady corporations. Anakin grew up on a backwater planet in slavery, which is supposed to be illegal but isn't enforced because of those two things mentioned before. He wanted a government that would just cut through the bullshit and get things done.
>>223225160Anakin didnt give a single fuck about the Empire, he joined Palpatine for personal reasons, and stayed because he had nothing left.
>>223229136>Anakin didnt give a fuck about the EmpireYOU'RE NEW EMPIRE?!
>>223225160would've made more sense if they showed him ruling with an iron fist, at least as much as a jedi could. like setting up what's basically a military administration.that's how episode 3 should have begun, anakin gets a visit from obi wan who's a bit worried at the way he's doing things
>>223229303Obi Wan does get worried about the way Anakin thinks in episode 3 when he wants to abort the mission to save Palpatine to help their clone squadron. Anakin had empathy and the Jedi took that away from him ironically.
>>223225160>raised by a single mother>liberated from slavery by a surrogate daddy who dies immediately after>grows into a sexually frustrated youth>religious order who rescued him from slavery never goes back for his mother>can't even be with his oneitis publicly because it's against da rules>from childhood through adulthood, never learns how to accept loss or change or things outside his control>the wins he does get (beyond getting to fuck Padme) come to him because he's really good at violenceTbf it makes sense why he'd be in favor of a big authoritarian government that could be a surrogate daddy for the whole galaxy that just forces people to do what he thinks they should do
>>223225160It's what anyone worth anything ultimately comes to. The overwhelming mass of humanity was not meant to have political power.
>>223225160>Even before turning to the dark side, he was already a chud and wanted a dictatorshipSeriously, anon? The Republic lets member planets get invaded go unpunished and slavery exist in perpetuity across the galaxy, something deeply personal to Anakin. The idea of a dictatorship under a firm hand (who has appeared to mentor him on top of all this) that WILL crush wrongdoers becomes infinitely more appealing than a corrupt and idle democracy, and he doesn't have the knowledge or insight to understand that things could even still get worse than what they're like with the Republic. By the time he might've realized things weren't going the way he idealized them, it would've been far too late. The irony is that a benevolent monarchy/dictatorship IS a superior form of governance since democracies are laden with problems, their slow speed to keep up with events being one of many, but each holds its own problems, and democracies seem to have milder lows than monarchies/dictatorships, though there's obviously less history for democracy.
>>223225160why is michael jackson dressed like a sith lord
He never had a father so he just does whatever his father figures tell him to do
born and raised as a slave on a dangerous planet so i can see how he believe that 1 person can make all the change while the senate and all the democracy slows everything down and leads to prolong suffering for those that need action
>>223229525ANI ARE YOU OK
>>223229525the resemblance is uncanny
>>223225160That's one of the main problems with the prequels. It was like he was Darth Vader from the start. It never showed the good side of Darth Vader. You never got to see someone with Vader's personality and intellect before they were corrupt, you just saw a completely different character who seemed corrupt from the start.
>>223225203Wait a minute, why we don't see that something like the internet exist in the Star Wars universe? Why didn't George add that at least in the prequels where it was already a reality?
>>223233540He was a good kid, just misguided. His authoritarian views were correct

>>223233583It would have been fun to see the screen addicted Wall-E type citizens of Coruscant not reacting to the war or politics until the internet disappears with the republic (thus explaining why it’s missing from the originals)
>>223225160he watched revan edits on the holonet
>>223233583The holonet exists but it's not supposed to extensively appear on screen because the Star Wars setting has a particular vibe. Andor notably broke that vibe, although not in this particular way.
Because he was a slave as a child and wanted control
>>223234579>Star Wars setting has a particular vibe.Nice joke
>>223225160Well, ever since he was 9 years old he was constantly told by the highest and most trusted authorities in the galaxy that he was a uniquely gifted ubermensch, basically the Messiah. So, as he grew up travelling with Obi-Wan he encountered all kinds of injustice, conflicts, and problems across the galaxy. Despite the Jedi preaching of neutrality, we know how most of these "disputes" typically go - the Jedi themselves even joke about it often - that negotations quickly just turn into "aggressive negotiations"So Anakin then becomes a grown man who believes and has internalized >1 - He is the most important human being to ever live. He is gifted, and better than everybody else on a cosmic fate level>2 - Most situations can actually just be solved by one party asserting their power over the other, because they (the Jedi) know better It's not hard to see how he upscales this to galactic government, and starts to think to himself>If I was in charge, I could literally just tell these idiots what to do, and it would be better, because I'm better and I know betterthen the Jedi suddenly freaked out and said "wtf Anakin why are you so arrogant dude?" as if all of this was a surprise to them
>>223229506>and slavery exist in perpetuity across the galaxyslavery is outlawd on republic member worldsTattooine wasn't a republic planet so they had no jurisdiction there
>>223234707honestly didn't seem like he hated being a slave that much he didn't even seem to dislike Watto or anything
>>223234949Extremely based post

>>223234958>slavery is outlawd on republic member worldsYes, and? So are military invasions of member worlds.>jurisdictionNo, it's more like the Republic simply didn't care because it wasn't a profitable problem to fix. There's no jurisdictional conflict in places where there's no formal government to begin with. The Republic was happy to let the Hutts' criminal empire continue existing even though putting an end to them was entirely within its power. Realistically, The Republic dominated the Outer Rim, even if they weren't formally sworn in as member planets/sectors (sometimes due to lack of actual governments, like in Tatooine). The Republic was simply corrupt, slow to move (if it bothered to begin with), and ineffective, which is exactly what Anakin and everyone else saw and how Palpatine gained so much political power over the course of the war.
>Anakin was a slave>droids are also slaves in the setting>Anakin spent his free time building a droid of his own>Threepio was therefore a slave constructed and owned by a slaveThis was an early sign that Anakin wanted to ascend from slave to slavemaster.
>>223235172>The Republic was happy to let the Hutts' criminal empire continue existing even though putting an end to them was entirely within its powerNo, it wasn't within their power at all. The Republic didn't even have its own standing army until the creation of the Clones. Member worlds had their own planetary security/defense forces and militias. Going to war with the Hutts (and by proxy all of Hutt Space) would have been a disaster, and it's something they would have had to all vote on. I think you can see why>Let's all pool our individual defense forces into a makeshift army and go to war with Hutt Space>why?>because some planets out there still allow slaverythat's not gonna pass a vote.
The Empire did not liberate {{{Nal Hutta}}} nor their vasal systems. Why is that, Lord Vader?
>>223235262Yes, it was. A government spanning untold trillions of individuals with an incredible amount of wealth could easily muster the forces to virtually wipe out a cartel living on the fringe of society, no matter how large it is. The manpower and economic power was skewed incredibly in favor of the Republic. It was a simply a matter of will, consideration, and some time.>Going to war with the Hutts (and by proxy all of Hutt Space) would have been a disaster, and it's something they would have had to all vote on. I think you can see whyOnly if they went about it like utter retards like you suggest, Senator Bumbledick. And while the Republic WAS retarded, that doesn't mean such a feat was beyond its power. How much money did the Hutts give you this standard year?
>>223235262One problem is that we don't see any Space Power from the Hutts in the films. Naboo has bleeding-edge starfighters, and we know other Republic worlds such as Corellia have good space armor. We don't see what the Hutts have got, if anything. Hutt Space as a united force only really exists in EU.
>>223225160Because Republic was a Democracy and Anakin's entire life was basically a slideshow of how Republic was a fucking failure and he was only able to do good if he disregarded what Republic (and Jedi) said and did shit his own way. Then Palps groomed him into thinking he'd be able to fix everything galaxy-wide by being a dictator.
Anakin is not real he is a fictional character
>>223225203Correct.>>223225160There's nothing wrong with rule by benevolent philosopher-kings. In fact, rule by benevolent philosopher-kings is the best type of government. Plato was right.
>>223225390>Literally describes why George Lucas is a good king, and Disney is democratic goons.
>>223235320You're simply overestimating the military power of the Republic prior to the creation of the Clone Army. They literally did not have an army. They did not have a fleet, at all.Individual planets were responsible for their own security forces, and a very wealthy world like Naboo had like 1 fucking squad of fighters and a handful of chucklefucks with blasters. The average world was like thatHutt Space is chocked to the brim with space pirates and powerful cartels It's not the kind of war the Republic could just easily win and steamroll, and the cause you're proposing - "Let's end slavery on non-member worlds!" - is clearly not a cause the Republic cares about. Because not even Qui-gon gave a shit when they were on Tatooine, he was like>sorry we don't free slaves, not really republic business, sucks to suckand you're saying they should just launch a galactic war over it like it would be easy and worth it
>>223235424Nobody disagrees that a Benevolent Monarchy is the best form of government. That's objectively true, and no serious person would ever say Plato was wrong. The problem, and basically the foundation of all debate on forms of government since then, has been tackling the problem that a TRUE Benevolent Monarchy is not actually possible. So then the question is what system gets closest to being perfect as a 2nd choice.
>>223235497>and a very wealthy world like Naboo had like 1 fucking squad of fighters and a handful of chucklefucks with blasters.>The average world was like thatAnd what about Mon Cala? And what did all the X-wings, Y-wings, B-wings, et cetera? That was all Republic hardware made before the coup. They had a lot of stuff.
>>223235532>And what about Mon Cala? They built ships but they weren't warships. They were chilling underwater for the most part. They only became a serious force when they joined the rebellion and basically converted their civilian housing ships into makeshift carriers.>And what did all the X-wings, Y-wings, B-wings, et cetera? X-wings weren't created until after the fall of the Republic. They were originally meant to be the mainline Starfighter of the Empire, until Tarkin decided they were too expensive and chose the TIE Program instead. The engineers who were working on the X-wing then defected to the rebellion and gave them the X-wings they already had produced.Y-wings were clone-wars era tech, built for the war, during the war. For the clones. The B-Wing wasn't created until basically right before Episode 4so no, that wasn't republic stuff made before the coupthey had ships, but they did not have a standing military-grade group of actual warships. They had shit like the corvette that Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon flew in episode 1 that got blown up, which I guess you could convert into a modest warship but againnot really what you think of as an actual fleet capable of fighting a war on a galactic scaleand again, not worth it for anybody not an important enough cause
>>223235497>You're simply overestimating the military power of the Republic prior to the creation of the Clone Army. They literally did not have an army. You are not reading what I'm typing. The implication behind referring to their economy and manpower was that they could raise one if they chose to. It wasn't an insolvable problem. It was simply not profitable to do, demonstrating the callousness of the Republic regarding worlds that were well within its area of control.>is clearly not a cause the Republic cares about. Yes, that was rather the fucking point. The Republic doesn't care. Its self-interest regarding major Senate players and the Core was blatant for all to see and a large part of why the Clone Wars were able to take place to begin with.>and you're saying they should just launch a galactic war over it like it would be easy and worth itNo, I'm saying that they could, and yes, if the Republic actually bothered to try, it would be easy. Its industrial and potential military power would dwarf a loosely organized group of criminals comprised heavily of mercenaries and pirates. You can easily see this in what the Republic fields in the Clone Wars and what the Empire goes on to field. You also keep bringing up member planets, but the reality is that if the Hutts' criminal empire didn't exist, everything in the Outer Rim that was frequented and settled by Republic citizens effectively belonged the Republic unless it actually had a proper government comprised of natives, which Tatooine did not (inb4 sandniggers).
>>223235609>It was simply not profitable to do, demonstrating the callousness of the RepublicSure, I guess we're in agreement then. And obviously they COULD raise an army, since they eventually did. I guess we're in agreement, I'm just taking the "corrupt" Republic's side and saying, yeah, obviously freeing the slaves of the galaxy isn't really worth the hassle. >You also keep bringing up member planetsBecause it's foundational to WHY the Republic works the way it does. It is basically a volunteer organization - nobody is asking you to join, and they don't go out of their way to recruit or absorb other worlds. You can join if you want to, and then you're part of the Senate's governance and have to play by their representative republic rules. So yeah, most planets certainly didn't want to vote to raise an army and then send it to war just for some slaves. Who would? That would be retarded.
he marries a woman who was elected to be the Queen.Star Wars makes no sense OP
>>223235670>I'm just taking the "corrupt" Republic's side and saying, yeah, obviously freeing the slaves of the galaxy isn't really worth the hassle.Which was something I'd already said early on in my first reply to you here >>223235172>>223235670>Because it's foundational to WHY the Republic works the way it does. It is basically a volunteer organization - nobody is asking you to join, and they don't go out of their way to recruit or absorb other worlds. The problem is that the slaves have to come from somewhere. Whatever illegal substances the Hutt cartel produces go somewhere. The pirates that operatae out of places like Nar Shada affect Republic Citizens. And so on, and so forth. It's not as though what happens on Tatooine stays on Tatooine (or whatever other resourceless shitholes the Hutts also occupy).>So yeah, most planets certainly didn't want to vote to raise an army and then send it to war just for some slaves. Who would? That would be retarded. Many of those slaves are Republic citizens. If some Island full of pirate shitheads was kidnapping my fellow countrymen and keeping them as labor/pleasure slaves, I would absolute vote in favor of wiping them off the fucking map.
>>223235609Also you have to remember that the Republic and Hutt Space had a kind of uneasy truce where they turned a blind eye and in return the Hutts and Cartels kept the unsavory elements corraled and in-line. It's not worth poking the bear, and destruction of the Hutt/Cartel control would cause a much worse situation of more or less anarchy with the worst criminal elements spilling out everywhere And if you think that a small group of dissidents using hit-and-run tactics isn't a serious threat, then I'd refer you to the movie Star Wars (1977)
>>223235714>and in return the Hutts and Cartels kept the unsavory elements corraled and in-lineThis was not something I ever noticed, assuming it was present in the movies. Maybe it was in the cartoon. I've seen only a little of that. Or maybe I forgot/missed it. It has been a while since I last saw the prequels. I do have a hard time there isn't a hidden "relatively" lurking between "and" and "in-line" in that sentence.
>>223235743>I do have a hard time there isn't a hiddenimagining*I also don't think that allowing pirates their local shithole containment planets is a real solution to the problem. They should simply be hunted down and eradicated. It may be a painful process in the short term, but in the long term, I doubt it wouldn't pay off.
Long live the Jewish Zionist Galactic Empire
For reason I don't knowThe discussion gets really close to another LOGH discussion
>>223235810I really do need to watch this
>>223235743Yeah, admittedly NONE of that is really talked about in the movies themselves. It was in The Clone Wars series though, which is still canon. And the nu-Canon has especially doubled down on fleshing out hutt space and the cartels, though if you want to pretend the nu-canon simply doesn't exist I'm right there with you honestly
>>223235819It's great, but it's very long and very slow and dense (in a good way)You have to be in the mood for it, but it's worth watching
>>223235822Oh, yeah. That makes sense. I really didn't catch much of the Clone Wars series. Maybe I'll go back to that soon. >nu-CanonYeah, definitely in the "doesn't exist" camp kek.
>>223235311The Hutts have been controlling their own region of space long before the constitution of the Republic was ever even written. Their days of conquest ended many years prior and they long since switched over to commerce. The Empire doesn't meddle in their affairs but shows up right up to their damn doorsteps if the situation ever calls for it, even just to remind them of who calls the shots in the galaxy.
>>223235849>live for 1000+ years>born into luxury that would make even a Saudi oil guy jealous>the only threats to your power and luxury still basically leave you alone as long as you're chill and don't attack thembeing a Hutt must be fucking awesome
>>223229046>which is supposed to be illegalIt is. In the Republic. Tatooine is not in the Republic, it's in Huttspace.
>>223235172>Hutts' criminal empireHutts are woefully misrepresented in Star Wars. They're stereotyped as criminals, but the reality is vastly different, nigh Hutt in proportion we can say. While their commercial activities are demonstrably at odds with Galactic Republic standards of legitimacy, none of their cultural imperatives or traits are in defiance of their own civilization's laws or mores. Within Hutt parameters their activities are not criminal but rather wholly legal and the pursuit of them is frequently laudable. Dismissing this as merely characteristic of criminality's rejection of social strictures is poor reasoning because, unlike examples of organized crime in Earth's past and present, the Hutts' ways predate the introduction of Republican laws criminalizing their deeds.I posit that it is far more reasonable to see the Hutts as a parallel civilization of unadulterated capitalism existing within a racial and tribal hierarchy whose social order prioritizes dominance over other species. These species fulfill the function of servitude for a system which is built upon a precept not of the individual as a citizen but rather upon tribes and clans as the quantum unit of society. Insofar as the individual of subject species does exist for Hutts, it is not as a person entered into a social contract whose purpose is mutual or reciprocal. No, the individual in Hutt sociology is a unit of labor, bricks in a pyramid which exists to facilitate ascension of the Hutt species. We might not approve their civilization but we ought to appreciate it as a civilization, not dismiss it as a lawless underworld. Actually, in Hutt Space, "crime" is the lawful overworld.
>>223225160bad writing
>>223235609The Republic was never a "galactic" Republic. Even on star maps, the Republic is mostly the Core worlds, Inner Rim, and some of the Mid-Rim, but by the time you get to the Mid-Rim you're already at the edges of Republic space and it's at best only scattered outposts further out. Naboo is Mid-Rim and it's considered to be poor bumfuck nowhere, Palpatine made huge political capital off being a Senator from a backwater nowhere planet that was being bullied by allegedly evil corporate interests. The Outer Rim is even further than that, if Naboo is American flyover country then the Outer Rim is fucking Venezuela by comparison. The Outer Rim was always dominated by the Hutt clans, never really the Republic.
>>223236364"Criminal enterprise" was simply a term of convenience because I lack the proper vocabulary to concisely address the nuance of their situation. In any case, this cultural distinction loses all credibility when their activities infringe on the lives and livelihood of Republic citizens. Moreover, "its their culture," isn't a justification for behavior that commonly principled person would classify as evil. >We might not approve their civilization but we ought to appreciate it as a civilization,Disagree. If it were Hutts doing these things to other Hutts, and everyone involved was fine with it, that'd be one thing. But that's far from the case. This sort of reasoning can be used to justify all manner of atrocity, and I won't listen to it.
>>223236373>kid spends 10 years growing up being told he's special and watching his mentor figures solve conflicts by imposing their will on objectively lesser beings>it works>ends up believing that the best form of government is if him and people like him just keep doing thatno, it checks out just fine
>>223236459the sequels should have been about the New Republic trying to deal with the fact that they're woefully ill-equipped to fill the power vacuum left by the empirehave Hutts and Space Pirates experiencing a golden age of space piracy, more or less
>>223236463Hutts are actually among the most impressive species in the galaxy. In Republic "culture" they are referred to as "Crime Lords" but it's not crime when you're the one in charge, only when authority is unrecognised. The Republic historically considered them outlaws to deny their legitimacy, citing their practice of slavery and other things. But when the Republic gets desperate, they make deals with the Hutts in exchange for access to hyperspace routes in order to win a war. Why deal? It's obvious.Hutts command, no matter what the morally-compromised Republic claims, extensive military and economic power, both institutional and personal. The Hutts started out by going to war with a galactic empire AND WINNING. They conquered an empire. Hutts are indolent by choice; they're slow only because they don't gotta move for nobody. When they train you get Grakkus, so swole he could flip tanks, or so tough in the case of Niima they're taking turbolaser blasts to the chest (and she went on to knock over a Lambda shuttle afterward). They're like elephant seals mixed with hippos: huge but deadly. And they wear power armour that would give Halo fanboys wet dreams. The only reason their homeworld fell was a civil war AND a black hole wrecking it at the same time. They dominated all galactic commerce and still would if shifts in hyperspace hadn't moved away from Nar Shaddaa. Yes, it literally took the fabric of reality changing for galactic commerce to go from unipolar to "just" multipolar. A Hutt is still probably taking a cut somewhere along the line of any economic action in the galaxy, with the likelihood increasing as one nears the Outer Rim.As an independent territory comprising approximately 10% of an entire galaxy, Hutt Space predates the Old Republic and has outlasted it, the post-Ruusan Reformation Republic, the New Republic, and a baker's dozen of Sith Empires, galactic or otherwise.

i heard the writer already planed for anakin to be vader as early as episode 1
>>223235311If Anakin got his way, he would have invaded the Hutts immediately after overthrowing Sheev. Padme would handle day to day politics as empress while Anakin would be out crusading to liberate the galaxy as emperor. I like to think Sheev would have done it too, but he kinda gave up inside after Anakin got burned and his empire ended up even more corrupt than the republic.
>>223225160>Did they ever explainno anon, it's never explained
>>223237919>but he kinda gave up inside after Anakin got burnedYeah he totally did. He immediately understood that Anakin was a flop when he rescued him, but the problem is he really didn't have any other choices so he just used him as an enforcer. And as much as people hate the nu-canon stuff, the Vader comics (which I assume the TV show will draw from if it's happening) are basically just the story of Sheev constantly fucking with Vader while he sends him as an errand boy to clean up the rest of the Jedi, but always angling to replace him or test him and kinda hoping maybe he dies on one of these missions but finds a hint to a more powerful groomable successorThen of course, 20 years later, enter Luke >his empire ended up even more corrupt than the republicOh he didn't give a shit about that at all. That was a feature, not a bug. As long as everyone answered to him at the end of the day he was perfectly fine with keeping on doing what he was doing.
>>223237975it's crazy how people watch the Anakin/Palpatine scenes as though they take place in a time bubblelike "oh they only just started talking about this"Nah man he was grooming him for like 10 years in between episode 1 and 2. They've probably talked for literally hundreds of hours about galactic politics and Anakin's feelings and shit between the movies.
>>223237996The awkward throwaway line about Anakin telling him what he did needed to be more of a pleasant greeting and have him say it was really good to see him again.

There's a cruel humor about all the deliberate and petty mistreatment to which Sheev subjected him.

>>223238154Highly unlikely. I think the most you can make of a Nazi analogy is that he was meant to be Sheev's glamorous Aryan superman. Before getting all burnt and fucked up that is. A Sith Master's work just never ends.
>>223238172Actually Chandrila's a pretty good choice.
>>223237980I think it would be more interesting if Sheev had good intentions for Anakin and the galaxy, at least initially, but due to the nature of politics and the dark side, got corrupted to how things ended up. Gaining power in a system like the republic requires a different type of person than leading an autocratic empire. Sheev knew that he was more suited to being a fox while Anakin was meant to be a lion. He says to Yoda that Vader will become more powerful than either of them, so he clearly wants to be usurped one day, as all sith lords eventually will. Vader would have become the emperor of the galaxy and be the most powerful sith lord ever, unfortunately for Sheev, the Whills said no.
>>223238172of course I've asked myself thatI've created entire OC donut planets just for a character to be from there, just to end up getting lost in fleshing out the planet itself
Decided to watch this after so long, it's actually kind of kino.
>>223238231>I think it would be more interesting if Sheev had good intentions for Anakin and the galaxyWell he did, from a certain point of view. Eternal domination under the Sith WOULD bring order to chaos. They flirted with this briefly in Season 1 of the Mandalorian, the idea that for the average person the Empire was actually the better deal, but I guess they've dropped that. But from Sheev's point of view it was just how things had to be, and you can tell he really did hope for Anakin to surpass him initially>He says to Yoda that Vader will become more powerful than either of them, so he clearly wants to be usurped one day, as all sith lords eventually will. Vader would have become the emperor of the galaxy and be the most powerful sith lord everYeah that's exactly right, in his own twisted way Palpatine did love Anakin and want the best for him and (his) new empire. This is just the way I like to interpret it, but Sheev always struck me as the kind of guy who was so transgressive and in love with the dark side, and the concept of BENDING the force to your will instead of surrendering to it, that that's mostly the promise he saw in Anakin. A guy who was willing to break the rules on both sides, and maybe transcend the dark side itself, or at the very least be the only one capable of pushing it to its absolute limitsI always viewed Palpatine as less of an evil dictator, and more like a mad sorceror who wanted to explore the force just for the sake of exploring it - he just needed a galactic empire dominated the sith FIRST so he could do his hobby magic research in private, which was always his real passion Like he didn't even care that much about the mechanics of the empire, he outsourced that shit as often as he could. The entire military dominance thing was Tarkin's baby and then later given to Vader and other Officers but Sheev himself never cared about actually ruling the galaxy, he just required a "peaceful" empire first

>>223238508only in rare threads like this will you find people who are actually willing to concede certain pointsin honor of that I will answer your initial question, because it actually isn't lazy>>223238154>Was Anakin suppose to be literally Hitler? No, he's not pragmatic enough. Anakin is something Hitler would have a dream about and realize was not feasible, or find distasteful because of his self-rule by emotion and not loyalty to a greater cause. Anakin is the flaw in Benevolent Dictatorship, because he doesn't understand that - even if it's a facade - consent to govern still comes from the people. Palpatine was smart enough to understand this and use Fear, but in a calculated way. Anakin as an actual Emperor would just be a maniac, subject to his whims. There's an essential lack of maturity to Anakin as a person - where that comes from is an entirely different rabbit hole.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wiImoO5QkcAI think even Palpatine understood this was a critical flaw in Anakin and was hoping he'd overcome it (he did not)
>>223238777>Anakin is the flaw in Benevolent Dictatorship, because he doesn't understand that - even if it's a facade - consent to govern still comes from the people. Palpatine was smart enough to understand this and use Fear, but in a calculated waylet me just elaborate on this a little bitthe meme scene in the field, where Padme asks Anakin about how people should be governed, his answer is if they don't agree then "they should be made to agree"This is where Anakin caps out intellectually, and where Palpatine exceeds himbecause Palpatine would have followed that line up with "I will incentivize them to agree"

>>223239535Sure that's canon too, but it takes place right before Ep4, like a year beforethere's 20 years between Ep3 and Ep4 or more I can't rememberAnakin was 22 years old when he got put in the vader suit and 45 years old when he finally died
>>223225385>>223225292The vast majority of dictatorships are brown married simps with evil cunt wives that passive aggressively henpeck their husbands into submission and raise their kids to be simps and evil cunts as well. Nearly every dictator ever was a man who had an unhealthy relationship with his mother and an absent or weak father. Look at Anakin. No father. Weak, corrupt father figures. Single mom who spoiled him rotten, then died violently. Hitler, Stalin, all the African, Asian, South American, etc. dictators were similar. Women literally raise every dictator that ever was.Moral of the story? Don't be a shit mother or a shit wife, but that's something modern women have never undetstood.

>>223239938>who exactly? Apart from Obi-Wan. well like I said they already did an entire comic series that nobody read but was still pretty good about Vader hunting down the survivors of Order 66there were a lot of jedi who survived, and they can just make more up if they want toat the same time, Palpatine implements the Inquisitor program where he has a lot of less-talented but still force-sensitive people he's training as assassins just to basically fuck with Vader and see if he's worthy or not (and also hunt Jedi like they did in the Obi-wan show) they already have the material writtenthey can just turn that into movies because nobody on earth read the comics
>>223225160because hes based
>>223239938>the Inquisitors were created by Sheev to help/control Vader, right?they were created to be whatever Vader made out of themif they somehow surpassed him, goodif he outlasted them and was better than them, also good
He wasn't "authoritarian and militaristic", he was a normal thinking human coming to obvious conclusions. The Republic was broken and dysfunctional. It was in a state of war and corruption and no one was willing to fix the issue, not even the Jedi. Anakin himself grew up as a slave in a dangerous planet that had been forgotten and neglected. So from his immediate POV he knows nothing as it's currently going works, and so should you.Anakin knows he himself means well and wants the greater good. Anakin knows he has power he can use to achieve this, and has been trained as a knight. It's as simple as "I've got great ideas to fix everything and restore safety/order and I also have the power and training to get it done." It's perfectly human. He's the normal one.Everyone else is batshit insane with their "we're going to pretend like nothing bad is happening and the Republic isn't failing and crumbling around us." There is nothing inherently wrong with strong central rulership, good kings are superior to failing republics.
>>223240006>good kings are superior to failing republics.yes but the problem is that good kings are rare and at least republics have the chance to refresh leadership more often and more freely
>>223239967But it must be someone that is important, not just some unknown Jedi that nobody knows. If it isn't Obi-Wan, Ashoka because they have their own tv shows, who can be? Kanan and Ezra?
>>223239987The Rule of Two doesn't apply to the Inquisitors?
>>223240018That is a probabilistic fallacy. We know it isn't "rare" here because Anakin has a 100% chance of doing the right thing. We aren't conducting a random sampling we already have a prize candidate. Like it or not, the most glorious golden ages for all civs in all of history were led by a good leader, not a committee.
>>223240021Yeah I guess if it's an actual Movie and not a TV-show it does have to be somebody important.I was thinking it'd just be a TV show where Vader is the main character and each episode is him hunting down a different Jedi or whatever, or dealing with Inquisitors, like how the comics are laid out.But the rumor is they want to do actual Movies, so yeahHmmmmmIt can't be Kanan or Ezra or Ahsoka or Obi-wan, we already did thatWho else survived...?
>>223240039Nope. They're not considered actual proper Sith, they're not initiated. Some are ex-Jedi and some were orphans or whatever, but they're just not really properly trained at all. They're force-sensitive assassins, who serve at the pleasure of Vader (mostly) and that's about it For an example of maybe where they fall on the power-scale of ex-Jedi, the Grand Inquisitor (big tall baldhead grey guy) was basically just a Security Guard for the jedi library. He wasn't even allowed to read the good books. But he's the #1 Inquisitor. that's how far they are beneath vader
>>223240042>Anakin has a 100% chance of doing the right thinghe didn't tho he did the wrong thingthat's the entire point of the story
>>223240006Anakin was a retard, though. Then he got diced up because his retardation knew no limits.
>>223240101>he got diced up because his retardation knew no limitsHow wrong you are thoughHe was attempting something transcendentalYou wouldn't get it
>>223240092Anakin wasn't allowed to do what he wanted. He was forced to bargain with the devil because "his people" kept him ostracized. And he was under the gun as he felt those he loved were about to die (which had already happened before). You know all of this so idk the point of being obtuse about it.The most successful republic of all time btw, Venice, had a Doge who functioned as a sort of lightweight king. It will only survive with a central ruler that means well and provides high level guidance, or else you get diffusion of responsibility and chaos, like the galactic Republic.
>>223240006Sheev is the single and entire reason why the Republic is crumbling, and Anakin is his useful idiot. In ROTS, Sheev says to Anakin, "Remember your teachings." I take this to mean that Sheev acted as a tutor to the young Anakin, and may even have taught him in a formal classroom environment: Political Studies with Mr. Palpatine, 1:00-3:00am. If so, those lessons would have a strong ideological bent and paint the Republic in a negative light, placing emphasis on its shortcomings and leaving out the details of its accomplishments. Sheev would dwell pointedly on the topic of Outer Rim worlds and the slave trade there, throwing meaningful looks at Anakin as he expanded on his theme. But no matter what Sheev might say about it, The Phantom Menace shows that the Republic were doing well and its people were happy before Sheev put his plans into action. Also note that in the OT, no one unaffiliated with the Empire has anything bad to say about the Old Republic. Those old enough to remember it, remember it fondly.
>>223229303>would've made more sense if they showed him ruling with an iron fist, at least as much as a jedi could. like setting up what's basically a military administration.Ruling what?
>>223240247>Anakin wasn't allowed to do what he wanted.yes he wasYou're allowed to leave the orderIt's frowned upon, but you can do itHe could have just said "I'm in love with Padme and we're starting a family, and I realize that conflicts with my duties as a Jedi so I am leaving the Order"Count Dooku left the order and became a terrorist and Mace still covered for himThe problem is that Anakin wanted it both ways. He wanted to be the Greatest Jedi who Ever Lived, and ALSO be married to midriff-chan. This is a personal failing of Anakin, not of the institution that raised him.
>>223240050Apparently Oppo Rancisis and Coleman Kcaj, both members of the Jedi Council survived Order 66.>>223240073So they are not trained at all by Sheev in the dark side, they just train that by themselves?
>>223240342Sheev himself is proof that what you are saying is untrue, and that they were incapable of dealing with issues and threats. I'm not talking about hypotheticals here, which is what you need for your own argument, but the facts of what we know and what is presented. I'm not saying Anakin wasn't misled. I'm saying he was right that there was a big issue and that it needed the proper hand to deal with it. If the Jedi had entrusted him with that, instead of treating him like a traitor or another, imagine what could have been?>>223240370I stg committeeheads are so weird. A slave boy is kidnapped and indoctrinated by multiple entities of power and at the end of the day only wants to save the people he loves, not accrue riches or power, and you find a way to paint this as a failing on his part. The entire point of the Star Wars saga is proof of his underlying good intentions, even after falling under the weight of dark side corruption and the thumb of Palpatine he is able to break out of it and save his son. That's the entire point of the story and you're somehow over here cocksucking a Republican committee that was deliberately shown to have failed and been corrupted. Sheev IS part of the corruption, he IS a part of the Republic lmao.
>>223240372>Apparently Oppo Rancisis and Coleman Kcaj, both members of the Jedi Council survived Order 66.I wouldn't exactly call those big names, but sure. Honestly Vader is the draw, you don't really need the jedi he's killing to be known characters. In the comics the first guy he fights is a pretty compelling character on his own merits, even though he was never in the films. Darth Vader is your main character here.>So they are not trained at all by Sheev in the dark side, they just train that by themselves?Well, it's a mixed bag. Like I said some were already ex-jedi who just bent the knee (like the grand Inquisitor and the big orange bitch) and some of them were just random force-sensitive people that the empire picked up.Sheev probably never trained any of them personally, he left that to Vader but even by the time Vader took command of them they were already decently proficient with lightsabers and what you might call "padawan-level" force ability. How much Sheev was actually involved in raising or training them is left up to mystery. They were Vader's pets and basically disposable.
And how does Yoda get a pass for being the "1,000 year old wise man" who manages to see and do nothing productive, fail Anakin, and just about fail Luke as well? When you're entrusted with that much responsibility and have that much insight and perspective how is it not an atrocious failing to do nothing good or useful with it and let the entire franchise crumble?
>>223235694>he marries a woman who was elected to be the Queen.>Star Wars makes no sense OPThe Holy Roman Empire elected its Emperor for a thousand years in our real history
>>223240428Yoda doesn't get a pass, he dies knowing that he failed and is passing his last hope on to somebody else
>>223240421If Vader trained them in the Dark Side of The Force, isn't that against the Rule of Two?
>>223240414>I'm saying he was right that there was a big issue and that it needed the proper hand to deal with it. If the Jedi had entrusted him with thatNTA but the problem again here is that you're trusting in the absolute judgement of a single individualand in this case Anakin turned out to be a lunatic so you just made the wrong choice for the whole galaxyyou just handed absolute power to a crazy person this is the problem
>>223240472He never trained them. He just kicked their asses. Half of them have replacement prosthetic limbs because Vader would just casually cut their arms and legs off in training. He never taught them shit about how to use the force though.
>>223240428He gets a pass because he's 1,000 years old and suffering from Joe Biden Syndrome. No one in the establishment wants to admit it, but Yoda is blatantly senile. He structures his sentences backwards and the other Jedi pretend that's normal: "Th-that's just the way his people talk!" Yoda's mental faculties and force powers are failing him as the dementia takes hold. It happens to the best of us eventually.
>>223240452I just don't understand how in all of these debates the young man Anakin is expected to have all of the omnipresence and insight, when in reality the wise men of the Jedi Order should have noticed Sheev, should have noticed the issues with the Republic, and dealt with them, as well as Anakin's own issues.>>223240482He wasn't a lunatic, he was the most lucid and human one in the room. They were all daydreaming in faggot land while he was boots on the ground, fighting the war, and seeing the issues dragging them into the dirt. He knew what time it was and they did not. Please don't look at this like a little girl who can only see things in terms of therapy and therapists. Anakin was more Cincinnatus than Caesar and he would have done very well if entrusted with emergency wartime powers. Instead, Sheev got them.
It's literally just>Palpatine: wants power, riches, acclaim>Jedi Order: egotistic, prideful, aloof and elitist>Anakin: wants to save people and fix thingsno clue how you get "Anakin is unhinged and would ruin everything" from this. The entire saga is about his arc so you might as well just not watch!!
>>223240536The part where Anakin slaughters all the women and children wasn't exactly encouraging.
>>223240519>entrusted with emergency wartime powers.Do you think he would have given up those powers in the future? Maybe after killing Sheev and defeating his army he still sees that the galaxy is better in his hands because he is the only that can maintain peace and not the republic that existed before.
>>223240519>I just don't understand how in all of these debates the young man Anakin is expected to have all of the omnipresence and insightWell he isn't, that's exactly part of his tragedy. He was a young man forced very early into a role he should have had time to mature into, but he was robbed of that by war and circumstances. It's crazy to realize that when Darth Vader finally dies in ROTJ he's only 45 years old.>in reality the wise men of the Jedi Order should have noticed Sheev, should have noticed the issues with the Republic, and dealt with themTo their credit, they tried. Mace and Yoda are constantly talking about how somebody is fucking around with their ability to see the future and it's a pretty serious problem. Then the war distracts them again - exactly what Qui-Gon warned against >as well as Anakin's own issuesthe funniest scene to me is when anakin and yoda meet privately in the room with the shaded windows and he's like "Hey man I'm literally right on the verge of having a psychotic breakdown because I keep having visions of my wife dying, and the last vision I had was of my mom dying and it happened"and Yoda just goes"that's rough buddy, let go of the things you love or whatever">He wasn't a lunaticYeah, he was dude. Come on. He slaughtered children.>Please don't look at this like a little girl who can only see things in terms of therapy and therapistsI'm looking at it from the point of view that Anakin was up to the challenge on paper but in practice couldn't hold it together and wasn't the guy
>>223240536>Palpatine: wants power, riches, acclaimOf those three things, power is the only one he cares about. He doesn't use his riches for personal pleasure, and he gives no fucks about his approval ratings.

>>223240472It's skirting the line since he's not formally training them as Sith apprentices. He's mostly just giving them the bare minimum training to do their job (i.e. hunting down random padawans and scrub knights and reporting any bigger fish to him). He was never training them to the level of helping him overthrow Sheev, which is the purpose of a true Sith apprentice.
>>223240582Yes because we factually know his motivations and intentions and they are not immoral>>223240581You mean the part where he kills off the murderous rapist slaver tusken raiders after they sit around and watch his mom die? >>223240615>we factually know his motivations and intentionsPower corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely.
>>223240595Anakin didn't "ruin everything." If he hadn't been there Sheev would have still usurped power as he was on track to. He delivered Sheev to the Jedi Order. The Order then proceeded to try to execute an extrajudicial execution of him. You understand nothing circumstantially, you're just woman-brained and incapable of knowing what a good leader is.Anyway, we live in a time of failing republics so it sounds like you're going to get to see a lot of this materialize firsthand, better hope you have an Anakin and not a Sheev waiting to take power when the inevitable void shows up.
>>223240632So then why wouldn't power corrupt the mini dictators of a Republic? Do they not have power? Why do you think you aren't ruled over by a collection of tyrants rather than 1? That'd be fine if he stayed on Tatooine and took responsibility for it, but he didn't.That's the distinction in mindset There was even a deleted scene from The Last Jedi (yeah I know) where Rey sees a fishing village being raided by pirates, and Luke tells her>You can intervene now, but are you going to be here a month from now, when they come back for revenge? >>223240621>no one can be all time sitting in his throne just thinking about powah.I'm fairly certain that's how he spends his days. Sheev is the Sith counterpart of Yoda, and they're both on a higher level. Yoda has a monk-like existence, fully absorbed in meditation, teaching, and being "wise," with no recreational activities in between. We never see Yoda having fun. Similarly, Sheev is preoccupied with the spiritual life of the Sith. And let's not forget he's basically a walking corpse. I doubt his dick works anymore.

>>223240730She bore Watto a son and her duty was to raise the boy while Watto was at work.
>>223240721>Then why did Windu disallow him from joining the arrest? Because Windu never trusted Anakin from day 1. He knew him and Sheev were close. And Windu was confident that him and an entourage of fellow Jedi Masters that he actually trusted would be able to take Sheev down. Obviously he was wrong.>next thing you know you walk in and he's about to assassinate a Senator. How does that look boss?I think Sheev no longer looks like a senator when you walked over the chopped-up bodies of 3 other jedi masters to get to him, and he's shooting lightning out of his fingertips and clearly not just a regular ass senator anymore. Anakin already knew Sheev was a Sith Lord, dude. That's the whole reason he reported him>Those aren't innocent people. They killed his mom, they watched his mom die, and they had probably done it many times before. There is no universe where they are innocent. And the fact that you decide to sympathize with them, and not him, tells me everything I need to know about you!I'm not sympathizing with them though. I'm saying Anakin only killed a few of them, not all of them. Tatooine is an entire ass planet, you think he killed ALL the rapist kidnapping sand-people on the planet? NO! He just stirred them up to attack more human settlements, probably. Yeah he avenged his mom but like, to what end? Did he actually improve anybody's situation on Tatooine? NO. He just got his revenge and left, and now a lot more people are gonna get raped and killed by sand people and he's not gonna be there to help because they're not personally related to him so he doesn't care. Because Anakin is a child, just like you.
>>223240730She's a house slave. Maybe she was raped by her previous owners (can't remember if the movie says she was a virgin like Mary) but probably not by Watto.
>>223240831no mention of her being a virginshe only tells qui-gon that anakin definitely didn't have a fatherso she hasn't fucked in a while, or didn't for at least 9 months
>>223240771I think redditors misunderstand that scene. He isn't remorseful about killing them. He's remorseful about losing his temper and abandoning the stoicism that was trained in. He's remorseful about feeling something human and reacting that way. If you had the abilities he did, as a knight, and saw your mom in that condition, knowing the context of what Tuskens were (as he had grown up there and undoubtedly heard of other atrocities), and were able to not lose your cool or exact justice/vengeance on her behalf, what would that say about you anon? You'd be a pretty useless fucking son and knight, wouldn't you? A soft little creature of the internet that just waits for "the courts to do something" o algo.
>>223240777So Windu didn't trust him (arbitrarily), and even after Anakin proved he should (by turning in his only friend and confidante after spying on him for them), he still doesn't bring him in. And then tries to commit a crime by executing an extrajudicial murder. Somehow this all bears badly on Anakin. Hear how you sound?
I just looked it up and apparently Anakin's mom was 32 when she died in Episode 2which means she was.....22, in the phantom menace?dude that actress was like 40 what
>>223240905Dessert sand is bad for your skin, that's why Shmi looked older.
>>223240777>He just stirred them up to attack more human settlements, probably. You're assuming a Sand People Nation with all the tribes in a collective defence treaty, but there's no reason to think so. If Anakin wiped out the entire tribe, leaving none to take revenge, then that is most likely the end of the matter. Why should the other tribes give a fuck? They probably benefited from the elimination of a rival tribe. They'll just divide the extinct tribe's territory between each other and be glad for their good fortune.
>>223240894>So Windu didn't trust him (arbitrarily)no dude he had a very good reason for not trusting Anakinobviously>he still doesn't bring him inHe literally tells him "if what you've told me is true you'll have earned my trust". Windu was also arrogant, he thought he could handle Sheev himself with some backup.>And then tries to commit a crime by executing an extrajudicial murderWhen it's a sith lord, I think you can throw the "take them in peacefully" shit out the window. No pun intended. Mace was right, he was too dangerous to be left alive.>Somehow this all bears badly on Anakin.Yes, yes it does. Because the only reason he didn't agree was because he was simping for his wife who he KNEW was fated to die anyway. >Hear how you sound?Reasonable?

I wonder, are Sand People permitted to enter the "civilised" parts of Tatooine? I mean, if a Tusken casually walked into Mos Eisley to trade for supplies and get a drink at the cantina, and he showed no signs of aggression, would he be allowed to do that?

>>223238777One thing that really annoys me is how Vader is smart and Anakin is stupid. It would have been good to see Anakin basically having all of Vader's strengths but instead using them for good, but he just seems like a fundamentally different character, so it's like the prequels never really showed Vader as a good guy. The way the original trilogy makes one imagine Anakin is completely different than the big dummy we got in the prequels. One thing about Vader in the original trilogy is that you get the sense that he'd be a really fun guy to hang out with and be around if only he weren't evil, and Anakin in the prequels is far from that. It's actually really disappointing.
>>223233583I mean, holograms are basically zoom.
The fundamental disparity between Anakin and Vader as characters is staggering. Vader is a guy who does evil things but deep down is a sweet, smart, funny guy. Anakin is an unlikeable creep who may not do evil things, but you know that it's only because he hasn't found his true calling yet. They're nothing alike.
>>223244238>deep down is a sweet, smart, funny guy.How do you know that?
>>223238777>>223244085Have either of you midwit redditor retards ever considered that the Jedi effectively lobotomize their padawans and trainees? The Anakin in Ep 1 is shown as an innovative little genius. Then in 2 and 3 we see his decline as he is forced to adopt some kind of heads down, mission oriented, stupid attitude. They WANT him to be a dumb, servile soldier. They HATE when he questions things and pushes back on things and asks the why's. He goes insane because he isn't allowed to be himself or do what he senses is right. When he is captured by Sheev and the dark side he is once again allowed to tap into his whole self, which includes the innovativeness and the cunning. That stuff is regarded as dark side adjacent when he is with the Jedi Order. Remember the entire reason they like adopting padawans young is so they can basically force this all out of them at an early age. They don't want a room full of philosophers, they want soldiers and monks. Qui Gon, Anakin, and Dooku are good examples of guys that couldn't handle that lifestyle. Obi Wan is a soldier through and through and never had an issue with it.
>>223244276This all reads like female fanfiction about werewolves and vampires dude it's fucking weird. I have no clue what's going on ITT lmao. The first we see of Vader is him strangling a guy because he's mad he quipped about his outfit and magic.
The funny thing is that original trilogy Vader would have tried to talk Anakin out of killing the kids. He would have said that they should capture them and use them to serve the empire or something, really so that they wouldn't have to get slaughtered. Vader is a big softie under all that armor and machinery. That's the entire point of Vader. I'm not saying that Vader wouldn't have done that in any circumstance, but he would have really tried to find a way out of it, whereas Anakin is just all in with no second thoughts like fifteen minutes after becoming a Sith. It's almost as if he's being driven not by his own thoughts and emotions but a writer who needs to wrap up a trilogy and didn't spend enough time on the character.
>>223244282Thank you for saying this, so many people completely miss that part of the prequels. A couple weeks ago I made a parralel on /vr/ between this side of the story in the prequels and in Final Fantasy VIII (which has a very similar story and themes regarding child soldiers brainwashing and the effect it has on the protagonist), and another anon was saying that was just headcannon. The "good vs evil" side of the story is much more nuanced and full of grey areas in the prequels, and Anakin saying "the Jedi are evil from his point of view" isn't just a line thrown in there to show that he's lost it.
>>223244294The entire point of Vader is that he's not evil at his core. That's what the original trilogy is about. It's as simple and straightforward of a concept as it can be. If you didn't understand this, then you didn't understand the original trilogy. Obviously, he's supposed to be intimidating, because it wouldn't work otherwise, but the point is that there's still a good man inside of all that armor and machinery. The fact that he's part machine is about as obvious of metaphor as you can get. I don't know how else to explain this to you and it's not worth it, you should already know.
>>223244384The OT Vader sat there while the Death Star blew up an entire planet you weirdo
>>223244282Just because something makes sense doesn't make it good. George Lucas didn't make a trilogy about a good man getting ruined, he made a trilogy about a bad man realizing his calling. It works, but it was the wrong choice, and the former would have been better, because that's what the original trilogy alludes to.
>>223244517The fact that I've seen footage of 9/11 multiple times doesn't mean that I wouldn't have a problem watching dozens of kids get murdered right in front of me. While one is effectively worse, it's easier to watch an explosion in the sky than to bring yourself to physically murder kids who know and look up to you. If you don't understand that, you're stupid.
Anakin is a punished aryan stoichad
Always thought the idea of the prequels was really cool. The slow fall of the chosen hero to the dark side. But the execution really was complete garbage. They shouldn't have let him write it.
>>223244674What was it that you didn't like and how would you have done it?
>>223244608You're calling me "stupid" and still pretending like that was just generic child murder and not him consummating his transition to the dark side with a mandated baptism by blood of JEDI TRAINEES who would have grown up to be his enemy. How did you not get that retard?Good Christ why do people constantly inject their current contextual circumstances and morality onto a show about space knights and wizards. You would have seen something similar in medieval history.
>>223244737>Anakin is an idiot who falls for the dumbest manipulations>the romance between Anakin and Padma was wooden and awkward at every step>Anakin's internal struggle is too simplistic>too much screentime spent on space politics>all political factions are retarded (makes it even worse)>too much screentime spent on droids and clone wars and light saber waving in 2 and 3 instead of Anakin's corruption/fall>Jedi are 2 dimensional and boring>Jedi are the space police
>>223244778>You would have seen something similar in medieval history.a little post-medieval, but this fella famously did pretty much this.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dissolution_of_the_monasteries
>>223244912>OH NO THE ALL POWERFUL KNIGHT KILLED TUSKEN RAIDERS AND JEDI PADAWANSthis is all you do in here you fucking faggot, then do this weird thing where you fetishize him when he does it in a sexy evil guy costume, Good Christ
>>223244778You called me a weirdo because I know that it's easier for people to watch an explosion than to personally kill people who they personally within their first hour of being evil. You're stupid for thinking that, because there are space knights and wizards in a movie, writing doesn't matter and characters don't have to act like real people. With that idiotic logic, you can say that you'd have no problem with someone driving a 2022 Nissan because "hurr durr, there are space wizards." Fuck you.>You would have seen something similar in medieval history. So? You see the same thing today too. A specific character doesn't get to just do things that contradict the entire point of their character just because other people throughout history have done it.
>>223244959No clue why you deleted the original post to add more meaningless fluff. There are no contradictions, the OT Vader does similarly cruel and temperamental things. I should have known I was just getting baited into another lazy OT supremacist thread. Guess what, you don't have to watch!
>>223244867I disagree with all of your points but I will just answered to the first one.Are you aware that Anakin is between 9 and 22 in the prequels? Also he is a slave with no education, grew up poor... do you think he was very cultured?
>>223244941Those were inhuman, creepy looking monsters who had raped and killed his mom who had just died, not kids who knew him personally and looked up to him. You don't have to be as retarded as possible just so that you can argue with me. Just apologize and say I'm right on this. Or don't and keep getting more and more retarded with every response, I don't give a fuck.>>223244996>OT Vader does similarly cruel and temperamental things. This was after decades of him being a Sith and working up to committing horrible acts to the point that he had become jaded, not within his first hour of being a Sith. It's easier to strangle middle aged men left and right when you've been doing it for decades than to kill a classroom of kids who know and look up to you when half an hour ago you were saying that killing someone is "not the Jedi way." At this point, every argument you make is essentially that you're a retard who is incapable of comprehending fiction. If you weren't this braindead you'd just drop it and accept that I'm right. You're still free to watch Revenge of the Sith even if it is a stupid movie.
>>223245046That would be a writing choice by George Lucas too, so he would be too blame for that as well. Nothing was known about Anakin prior to the prequesls, so he could have written the character in any way he wanted.Counterpoint: He did set Anakin up as a genius in ep 1 though. But the Anakin of 2 and 3 seems like a completely different character. That should probably be added to my greentext list. The disconnect between 1 and 2&3 is jarring.
>>223244294>him strangling a guy because he's mad he quipped about his outfit and magicHonestly, this was retarded of Vader.First, it makes him look like a whiny bitch who can't handle the bantz. Tarkin literally has treat him like a child having a tantrum, and say "knock it off, we need to get back to what's actually important"Secondly, if Vader wanted to put the shittalker in his place, he could have just walked over and punched him. The Jedi are gone, and as the shittalker displays, people don't really believe in The Force anymore. Keeping the fact that you're a space wizard a secret is immensely valuable; the Sith can pull strings from the shadows without the whole galaxy learning "The Emperor is part of an evil religious cult!"
>>223245127Are you talking about him falling for Darth Sidious's manipulation?, that is why you say he is dumb?
