I think a huge problem with today's movies is that at a certain point the writers got convinced that it's about the characters and the "human" struggle. It's probably the fault of youtube essays.
Every protagonist must have some deep, unresolved trauma and instead of having cool stuff we have feelings everywhere.
The movie exists as some sort of therapy session for him and every movie is now basically a boring drama.

had on ok ending, but before that i kept thinking how unlikeable every single character was. the son was the worst.

>directors have this stupid idea that movie is about characters
this board is getting increasingly retarded with each passing month

I thought it was pretty good for an Anti-God Lesbian Anti-Natalist White Men are Weak movie, that also happened to have some dinosaurs in it.

you progressed in your retardness to the point you don't want movies to have stories

Is this your first non marvel movie in your life?

in a drama the action is the therapy session.
So now movies are mostly:
>character has big struggles that define him
>action gives him therapy
Instead there are other ways to do things like:
>character is a person with good things and bad things
>action gives him problems he has to overcome
>>
Halfway through it right now. Pretty kino.

like i said. You don't want movies to have stories lmao.
>character has big struggles that define him
>action gives him therapy
that's more or less the definition of a story for literally thousands of years. What happens to the character must be related to who he is and give him that chance at a "therapy". If you can just swap characters and nothing changes, then it's not even a story

The movie was shit yes sure, but you’re still a major fucking retard

I thought the ending was the worse part. Even ignoring how it completely fucks any sense of consistency the time travel has, I found oddly macabre how they sent their counterparts to die in the past to save a clone of the dad, and that he doesn't ultimately seem bored by it. I dunno, ( gave them credits for having the balls of taking the movie in a certain direction but it really seems like logics was thrown away at the end to have a happy ending.

Die Hard would not be improved by having John McClane engage lengthy dialogs with his wife over the tensions present in their marriage, or any kind of treatise on the stress of a modern (80s) marriage. A modern film would have a high likelihood of this.

Facing a material conflict is not comparable to "therapy", you're the one who wants self-indulgent slop fests and not stories
>>
in a few years people will complain that movies are not just mindless images and sounds like on tiktok

Movies do fundamentally have to be about people. Theyre not about the situation itself, theyre about the people in that situation and their experiences. Predator isnt about the Predator, its about being hunted by the Predator. Back the Future isnt about a car that can take you back in time. Its about Marty going back in time.

What you have to have is some kind of arc. It doesn't have to be psychologically deep or profound, just an arc, even if its as simple as overcoming a challenge you didn't think you could. There also generally needs to be a "thing", which dovetails with the arc. This concept is so nebulous its hard to articulate but it means some kind of resonance, some kind of twist or echo that satisfies the brain.

In Predator the arc is Arnold learning to operate in a different way he isn't used to kill the predator. That arc is in a way very simple but it leans on a "thing"-a role reversal where they went into the jungle to hunt outclassed guerrillas and terrorize any civilian support base they have, and then all of a sudden they're totally outclassed and being hunted themselves. Arnold has to first adapt to that new dynamic to survive, and then transcend it and figure out how to turn the tables when he has to fight against the odds

In Back to the Future it is established early that Marty is saddled with a sense of inferiority regarding the Mcflies social standing in the town, and his rebellious defiance and almost strained chadishness is a reaction to that. In going back in time to when his father was his age, and fighting against his father becoming who he did, he is acting out his will to not end up like that himself and the anxiety that he will. By changing the past, he proves he has command of the future

But this has been perverted into thinking everything has to be "deep", especially that everything has to be about trauma. Some things should be deep and others shouldnt. What they should all be is elegant which isn't the same thing
