Hey - the Handmaiden was wonderful, thanks. Not at all what I expected, the true "Cruel Intentions" of Korean movies, and surpassing it IMO. I give it a 9.8/10.

I took .01 point off for they don't actually eat box when they 69 in part one or two, I could tell by their head placement. That is a small complaint, since the whole scene was thoroughly hot.

I took off another .01 point for part three slowing down slightly, and what happened to the dude. He was a rascal but that was still an awful ending for him.

Overall - thanks for the amazing recommendation! Easily the best movie I have seen, the settings were so beautiful and tasteful on the eyes, it was a true treat just watching the movie.

They do reference Marquis de Sade in one of the storytelling scenes I believe, so it really is "Cruel Intentions" done right. But it's better than the original release, and it's an original story. It's spectacular that the Handmaiden is an original story, from the cinematography to the script. It was so easy on the eyes right at the start to the end. Except that one scene I spoilered.

Wonderful performance by everyone. IMO, the storytelling scenes by Kim Min Hee places her slightly ahead of Kim Tae Ri's performance in the Handmaiden from an overall perspective.

It is if you watch from a romance perspective. The FL, for different reasons, pursues two men but gets a pass because she has untreated dissociative identity disorder. Once she gave the Japanese man the come on kiss and invited him to meet her in private in Italy I abandoned the forced romance arch. I also thought the translator character weak and too accommodating. If you watch from the perspective the FL is clearly suffering from a sever mental illness from a childhood trauma and a coma inducing major accident I enjoyed it. I thought the alter ego excellent and her hallucinations done well.
