I go to thrift stores and buy dvds for pennies on the dollar instead of paying for shitty streaming services
My collection grows continuously and none of it will ever become unavailable

Rate today's haul
Fifth Element copy was still shrink wrapped
>>
upgrade to bluray man, dvd is such shit quality
>>
>>223291533
they are like 4 or 5 dollars apiece at thrift stores
>>
>>223291533
I'm mostly upset commentaries went out the door thanks to streaming.

theyre 2 bucks here and even cheaper sometimes unless its like a movie pack. i dunno what kind of primo thrift store you browse
>>
>>223291561
Not at mine
That whole stack was 20 bucks

>>223291560
I have blurays but honestly the quality barely makes a difference at all
>>
>>223291533
I like Pirates 2 and Step Brothers.
I am fine with streaming existing, but I prefer DVD/BD for shows and movies I really like. For example, I feel indifferent to Pirates 3 overall, so I am fine not owning that and watching it on streaming. But I like Pirates 2, so I'd like to own that to watch it anytime.

>>223291604
you must either be blind or have a bad setup
>>
>>223291620
You want it to matter but in truth it doesnt. The quality difference is neglible and never actually makes a qualitative difference to viewing experience.

Seriously, tell me what exactly you get out of that extra resolution. Some skin pores? A few wrinkles?

I have two, one is smaller (3' ish?) and in my bedroom. Other larger (5 or so), in my living room.

Probably 10 feet from either one. Like I said, I do have blurays but I just dont find the quality difference worth the price difference. Plus, its much harder to find good stuff on bluray, particularly used. I will occasionally buy a film new at top quality if I really like it, but for 99% of my viewing dvds are perfectly adequate.

>The quality difference is neglible
the difference between a dvd on a 4k or 1080p screen and a bluray are worlds of quality difference.
i imagine you're watching the dvd's on a crt which obviously they'll look how they were intended but they aren't going to be better than a remastered version on bluray on a higher res screen.

>>
>>223291730
why are you measuring your tv in feet? anyway, if you are being serious, that is your problem. if you're actually 10 feet away from the tv, you need more like an 85+ inch tv see the difference. move that couch way closer.
>>
>>223291747
good troll post but even at 2 feet away you want at least a 20 inch tv.
>>
>>223291770
Why would you imagine that? Who owns a crt in 2026? Neither of my tvs are old or crappy.

I never said better.
Why are you just making things up and imagining things in order to have some kind of delusional "win" over me?

Did you personally invent blurays? I dont understand your weird desire to defend their honor as if I am not aware of the difference between them and dvds, which I have clearly indicated that I am.

i'm with OP dvds are fine desu. It's 2 hours of entertainment I'm not looking to maximize it into a religious experience via blu-ray. Sure high quality is cool but it's not THAT cool
>>
>>223291857
Hes “defending their honor” because you are making a totally bizarre statement that makes no sense. A DVD is either 480p or 720p depending on the release, and a lot of the time its just a cleaned up and upscaled version of a VHS transfer. A bluray is a 4k film transfer downscaled to 1080p. If your TV is even slightly bigger than 12inches the difference would be dramatic and instantly noticeable.
>>
Just like with music, the physical media mogs streaming. You will never enjoy a movie as much as you would have if you actually plopped down and popped that DVD in the player.

The person you're replying to has a learning disability. You can tell from the way they format. It's no use talking to him. He'll spend the rest of his life receiving gov't gibs.

>muh dvds muh blurays muh streaming
What a terrible thread. You can literally spend like $300 on a NAS and some 12tb HDDs, download every famous movie ever made from your preferred tracker in perfect raw 4K rips, open up a jellyfin server and have your own private streaming service with literally any movie you could ever want at the highest possible quality with no lag or even internet needed. This would take you less than an hour to set up minus the download times of the movies. Meanwhile retards are arguing if its “more worth it” to buy garbage bin DVDs or garbage bin Blurays for $10 each or a $100 bluray player like its 2006.

>>223291533
Do new movies still get dvd releases? Are they just empty or do they still have bonuses?

I think there are pros and cons to each format, including setting up your own server.
>$300 on a NAS and some 12tb HDDs
Can you really find that equipment for that cheap in today's market? I thought it would cost a lot more than that. I think it'd be nice to have back-ups of my favorite DVDs/BDs.
>>223292068
Some do. For example, I saw Weapons out on DVD the other day. I personally prefer the DVD / BD packs so you get both for about the same price. I don't think buying a stand alone DVD for newer movies make as much sense since they should be formatted for higher definition by default. Although I admit I'm naive when it comes to movie formatting because its much more complicated than what I'm making it out to be.

>>
>>223292156
Youre actually right. I set up my server years ago and I had no idea HDDs are so expensive now. Is it AI related? When I bought my HDDs they were cheap as fuck because they were considered nearly obsolete tech vs SSD and nvme. Nevermind I guess. You dont huge storage though unless you really want to store a ton of raw 4K rips which can be anywhere between 40-100GB each. Still think its worth the money as a one time payment to cancel all streaming and never have to buy and horde expensive blurays and players (4k blurays are like $40 each)
>>
>>223291533

>>223291604
>the quality barely makes a difference at all
I'm happy you're happy, but either your TV is in dire need of an upgrade or you need an eye test.
I watch most things on a 32" monitor at a desk. With that setup, 480p/576p is almost unwatchably soft.
Low-bitrate "1080p" (like youtube videos) looks pretty bad too. Medium bitrate 1080p (like commercial streaming services) looks decent, but stepping up to a bluray remux (1080p high bitrate) is noticeable.
Then there's obviously another jump between that and high-bitrate 4K (UHD BD remux). This is all before we even talk about HDR.

UHD Bluray was released 10 years ago. Regular bluray was released 20 years ago. If you don't see a pretty huge improvement vs 30-year-old MPEG2 DVDs, something is wrong.
>>
>>223291798
this would be great for cartoons....
>>
>>223291533
I only watch dv 7 fel remuxes on an oled with 7.2.2 atmos
