I finally watched it and it's a shame that I only did so now being a classic and all that.
It's a cool movie that I enjoyed very much but why does it receive so much love?

yes, you can like something but not understand why most people like it even more

WOULD YOU FUCK ME

It's painfully mediocre. Fuller's Hannibal show effortlessly shits on it.

Because this is the movie that made normies think that serial killers are superpowered maniacs instead of mentally ill losers.

OP, Silence, like many great horror movies, (The Shining, Alien, Psycho, or Hereditary) isn’t really about the thing it appears to be about. It’s not about a psycho killer killing people and cutting off their skins.

It’s really about being a woman in a man’s world where everyone wants to fuck you.

Fair enough. The movie is barely disguised smut for women.

Nah, it's a lot deeper than that. Silence of the Lambs really isn't different from The Godfather making the Mafia look like heroes. The aesthetics come before the script, and the movie really does everything in its power to make Hannibal look almost justified in comparison to Gumb. It's absolute trash. Another movie that does the same is Se7en, with its fucking Nine Inch Nails intro and the "erm, actually, society is the villain!" angle. It's pretty much a safe edgy industrial music video trying to make generic misanthropy feel profound and deep.

Oh, for sure. The whole movie is clearly about shipping Clarice and Lecter. You see it very well in how he singles her out with positive treatment, when she one ups him with the fake deal, and when he calls her at the end of the movie. In a less retarded society people would shit on Silence of the Lambs for being capeshit (Hannibal escape scene) smut and Prisoners would be hailed as a classic.

It was a high quality, high class horror movie that came out at a time when people were more used to mindless 80s slasher slop. It also heralded in a wave of psychological thrillers, which were very popular.

I would say Silence of the Lambs is more of the same; it's just dressed up better but in line with the slasher slop of the 80s, only now instead of the slasher being an excuse to see naked people, Silence is an excuse to see the weird.

You probably haven't watched many 80s slasher movies if that's the case, they had absolutely fallen into a rut by the time Silence came out and were filled with the same tired tropes. SotL was a movie with an actual plot and character development and wasn't just sex and death smut, which is why normies and critics gravitated towards it.

It absolutely was death smut. The victims are there to be killed off and never so much as get any development. Hannibal literally eats people, but the movie downplays that part to showcase what a cool, interesting character he is.
>>
>>223293523
That's not at all a fair comparison, the show was transcendent kino having Hannibal 1v1 another serial killer and then even Morpheus himself.
>>
Everyone involved in the movie was working at the top of their game and it shows.
>>
>>223293407
Not gonna lie it is kinda forgettable aside from Anthony Hopkins

Isn't this what made him actually famous after a life of small work?
>>
>>223293587
Yeah, thanks. I've been treating women like people for years, and pretty much ALL of them get mad at me because I dont try to fuck them.
>>
>>223297713
I remember him from The Mask of Zorro most of all.

every /tv/ post ever is somebody watching something critically acclaimed and being like "yeah I guess it was pretty good or whatever, but it's not as good as everybody says"
>>
>>223293407
this movie was done to brainwash americans into thinking that the FBI were always the good guys, and it's not a coincidence that soon after that glowies were involved in some shady stuff like ruby ridge and the waco siege
>>
>>223293407
Watch Manhunter (1986).
Silence of the Lambs is essentially a much inferior sequel.
>>
>>223299097
wow, look at you talking shit about an element of American government in the form of vague conspiracy posting to show your indepth knowledge on this.
Youre only the 6th person like that that I saw today.
>>
>>223298552
just a symptom of a dying industry. its no fun criticizing movies that are universally shit with more than one fatal flaw, you got to go back on the acclaimed classics and nitpick all the flaws so you can still be an edgy negative nigger on the epic anonymous canadian pictography website

based Mann chad

At the time when it came out, there weren't many serial killer movies on this level. It was pretty much lightning in a bottle too, since it's the first and probably last horror movie to receive an Oscar.
>>
>>223293407
You fucking made this thread last week so i already told you. Because all the shit you already watched before it that makes it seem generic to you, are copies of it. Before it came out there was nothing like this. I wrote this fucking exact comment already why do i need to write it again?

The FBI was good until a commie stole the presidency by winning less than 50% in a 3 way race.
