thats it?
just got around watching hellraiser, and it was pretty mid
pinhead and his goons were laughable, they couldnt even catch a teenage girl
who was the bum supposed to be?
>>
The third act after Frank gets BTFO is pretty lackluster. Mechanically it makes sense that you could send the Cenobites back using the box but Pinhead stands there uttering "DON'T DO THAT" like a retard when Kirsty is messing with the box when he could just eviscerate her on the spot.
>>
>>223304718
Hellbound is where it’s at. Watch that next. You won’t be disappointed.
>>
>>223304718
It is an absolute mid movie riding on a few cool designs.
>>
>>223304718
Yeah, it's fairly underwhelming. The girl is cute, so at least there is that.
>>
>>223304718
I really like the sets and designs of the second movie more. I want to go to the labyrinth but not participate in the torture lol.
>>
>>223305703
The girl is innocent and sexually vanilla tho (possibly even a virgin) so I figured the BDSM demons were weak against her.
>>
>>223304718
the 2022 movie was MKULTRA disclosure
>girl cuts herself on mysterious object
>starts to hallucinate
>"demons" tell her to kill her friends
>turns out her military bf was her handler
>his van...
>>
>>223306337
The second film is objectively better and the only reason it gets flak at all is it is eternally hated by dweebs who expected an anime fight between cenobites. That scene has pissed off so many nerds that it permanently enshrined the movie as kino

I had no idea took it that seriously. It was just a cool "product of its time" movie and that's basically all I wanted it to be. The first movie was just "okay"

most underrated movie in the series by far
>>
>>223304718
It's a bit strange because the film was originally meant to be set in England, but the film company changed it to an American city late on. That's why a lot of the cast are English (even Frank is dubbed over) and it seems like Julia is going out into this American city and procuring only Englishmen for Frank to feed on, like she's getting them from the British embassy or something
>>
>>223306528
It's Se7en meets Jacob's Ladder. Better than it has any right to be.
>>
>>223304718
The second film was much better, I posted that here right after watching it and had a bunch of fags crying over how wrong I was

A hellraiser game comes in a couple weeks too
Shills, i mean people are saying that it really nails (heh) the atmosphere
>>
>>223304718
>two hellraiser threads at the same time
>both anons disappointed in the film
Is this because of the game?
>>
>>223306964
For me (second anon) I watched it months ago, not sure about watching the others

I really don't understand the praise for this one. All the direct-to-video sequels are bad, including Inferno. Yeah it might be better than Revelations, the absolute nadir of the series, but that's no great achievement.
>>
>>223307004
I watched the first two yesterday for the first time in years. The acting is absolutely awful. Can't get past it.
>>
>>223306913
Yes, with shades of Angel Heart.
>>223307023
Because you've been filtered.
>>
>>223306964
>>223307004
I watched it partially many years ago and was disappointed too, and I love old school horror movies
>>
>>223307076
>filtered by DTV trash

No, it's just that I'm not so desperate for more Hellraiser content I'll pretend a shit film is a good one.
>>
>>223307094
Not my problem, you're the one who wasted your time, whereas mine was well spent
>>
>>223306484
still the most interesting depiction of hell in film, at least on a visual level
>>
>>223304718
The second movie was a lot better.
The rest are shit apart from the reboot which was actually pretty cool and did some interesting stuff with the lore.
>>
>calling inferno kino
read a book retards. the entire dtv run is bottom-barrel slop made just to hoard the ip. barker's vision died the second dimension took the wheel.

>>223307023
>inferno is good
meds. it's literally a recycled crime script with pinhead stapled on for 5 minutes. total slop.
>>
>>223307276
Inferno is unironically better than 1 and 2.
>>
>>223304718
It's a vibes and aura movie. You won't find many movies with similar atmosphere.
>>
>>223306484
The second movie is where it’s at
The rest suck
But the second one is special
Cool depictions of another world
Bloody as Hell
The turning into a cenebite was memorable
Your right the first was ok and the others are garbage from what I heard

> couldnt even catch a teenage girl

Maybe you missed something else in the film. Anyway this is not a slasher film. Its fairly unique but have you played the demo that just dropped for the Revival game? Hellraiser is wild, one of Barker's other projects - Nightbreed/Cabal is awesome.
>>
>>223307326
Oh I see. I'm being baited. Praising Inferno is the new meme in Hellraiser threads. Well I won't reply to this nonsense anymore.
>>
>>223306952
>it really nails (heh) the atmosphere

Lol, also Doug Bradley is voicing. Its a gane for sure, nothing astonishing or new. Competant. Looks great. I am glad its not a multiplayer DbD-like.
>>
the lore purists hyping up the reboot are coping hard. hellbound is the only sequel where the cenobites actually feel like otherworldly cosmic sadists instead of cheap slasher villains.

>>223307326
>better than 1 and 2
absolute brainlet take. stick to capeshit if you think a dollar store detective movie beats borker's original flesh horror.
>>
>>223307326
>>223307276
>>223306528

Hellraiser for people who like moral fables or whatever. I read the plot outline, seems like I may have watched at least some of it at some point, I wanted this to be Hellraiser Universe - where everybody involved was a Cenobite/willing participant in all the pleasurepain. Could be an interesting idea to explore if it hasn't been already and it probably has. Anyway when the original author leaves their creations to other fans this is of course what becomes possible. Look at Star Wars. Anyway
>>
>>223307503
In the case of Clive Barker, the original creator no longer seems to be capable of giving fans what they want. He's in poor health, and his last Cenobite novel, The Scarlet Gospels, doesn't read like his own work and is widely believed to be the work of a ghost-writer. If Hellraiser is to continue, it will have to be done by people other than Clive.
>>
>>223307465
The first two films basically ARE capeshit just with more gore
>spooky monsters chase woman around until she blasts them with magic box and quips
>2nd film has an actual fight between evil demons and new even more evil denon
>>

>>223304718
He’s not even the villain of the first one, it’s that frank guy.
>>
Lords of Illusions is great if you havent seen it. Same universe.
>>
The obsession with worldbuilding and lore completely ruined modern horror. Hellraiser worked because the labyrinth was an incomprehensible geometric nightmare, not a video game map with boss fights.

>>223307607
>calling cosmic flesh horror capeshit
Brainlet take. Capeshit is clean CGI slop for kids. Hellbound was pure visceral body horror and surrealism. Go back to Marvel.
>>
>>223307691
Even at its best Hellraiser is b-movie slop. It is not and has never been some dark horror masterpiece.
>>
>>223307691
>not a video game map with boss fights.

That's exactly what is was.
>>
>>223307728
You are looking at it through modern lense. Back then, it pushed censorship to the max. What was allowed now is on another level to what was back then.
>>
I downloaded the second movie last night but the dialogue sounded like a recording of a recording so I didn't watch it, hopefully the next torrent with the most seeders won't have this problem
>>
>>223307809
Back in the 80s, Clive Barker appeared as a guest on the Scottish talk show Open to Question, where he was faced with a host and an audience who were all very hostile towards him. Many of them had not watched Hellraiser, but they were still convinced it was a work of total depravity. The host opened the show with this line:

>Our guest tonight has taken horror beyond the Frankenstein monster and the psycho killer to produce storylines that some say can only be the result of a diseased mind.
>>
>>223307995
>diseased mind
Homophobic chuds
>>
>>223306528
hate the editing
>>
>>223304718

They should have went with the book scenario, that once the Cenobites catch Frank, they tell the girl to leave, as it is no longer her business anymore. That was the deal and everybody kept their word in the transaction. In the movie though, the Cenobites break their promise for whatever reason and go after the girl, which looks really shit and leads to nothing
>>
idk why horrorfags glaze these fucking jobbers

>>223306528
i got bamboozled into watching this as part of the 9 gates collage "must see flicks"
>>
>>223307995
>Our guest tonight has taken horror beyond the Frankenstein monster
This is like the literary/film equivalent of talking about how some random modern game took things beyond the beeps and boops of Pac-Man
>>
>>223309778
No its not,it would be like taking pacman to manhunt .
>>
>>223307995

If you read some of Clive's stories, "diseased mind" is pretty appropriate. You have to have one in order to conjure that sort of imagery in your stories. It isn't exactly a bad thing. You need a mind that is largely disconnected from human suffering and is just able to work on whatever task it was given, in order to work in a burn ward. You put somebody in there who feels too much and they won't be able to function
>>
>>223309778
Do you not get the 80s and 90s was when artistic freedom of expression was "unlocked" and censorship became more and more tolerant to what was normally banned allowing what we have today.
>>
>>223307123
Supernatural tv show has a similar depiction of hell in the little they showed of it. Their idea is that you can be ripped apart and then the next day you are whole again to be ripped apart once more.
