Well, I grew up in north west Oklahoma and the stores I had access to were not that great. There were two in the town I lived in and the better one closed before 2000. There was a Hollywood Video in the closest city about 30 miles away, but it was really too small considering it served the whole city and many surrounding towns.Video game selection sucked at all of them and anime was practically non-existent.

They always had the staff selections and everyone there was up on the cool indie movies. They worked there because they liked movies, not because it was just a job. We got an antenna to pull in some channels, which was totally amazing after our whole lives only being able to watch TV certain hours in one part of the house. And that was nothing compared to how addicted kids must be to all their many screens now. I remember going camping with a kid who'd just gotten a Game Gear and he was so bummed when his batteries quickly died. But then he was free to enjoy the actual camping.
