I've watched it all - i just treat it like a 20 minute speculative sci-fi cartoon for kidults tho... From what i can tell around seasons 3-4-5, whoever was the main absurdist/ad-lib writer left. There's a lot of really bizarre premises early on that later seasons lack, in favour of "character" based premises.Think about the concept of the meeseeks for example - honestly pretty absurd, very novel and i think it is executed well. Later seasons lack that side of humour.

It's hard to say whether this was because he was being crowded out or maybe he was shitting it up or maybe both. The writers since the new VA's came on have been getting closer to a good show that's in the same vibe as the earlier stuff. They kind of biffed the Rick Prime stuff but we did start getting more 'classic Rick & Morty adventures'. It's like they're trying to prove they're really Rick & Morty, but when Roiland was still on board they were trying to prove they weren't.
