> "Gee, golly, gosh, gloriosky," thought Mary Sue as she stepped on the bridge of the Enterprise. "Here I am, the youngest lieutenant in the fleet - only fifteen and a half years old." Captain Kirk came up to her.
"Oh, Lieutenant, I love you madly. Will you come to bed with me?"
"Captain! I am not that kind of girl!"
"You're right, and I respect you for it. Here, take over the ship for a minute while I go get some coffee for us."
Mr. Spock came onto the bridge. "What are you doing in the command seat, Lieutenant?"
"The Captain told me to."
"Flawlessly logical. I admire your mind."
Captain Kirk, Mr. Spock, Dr. McCoy and Mr. Scott beamed down with Lt. Mary Sue to Rigel XXXVII. They were attacked by green androids and thrown into prison. In a moment of weakness Lt. Mary Sue revealed to Mr. Spock that she too was half Vulcan. Recovering quickly, she sprung the lock with her hairpin and they all got away back to the ship.
But back on board, Dr. McCoy and Lt. Mary Sue found out that the men who had beamed down were seriously stricken by the jumping cold robbies, Mary Sue less so. While the four officers languished in Sick Bay, Lt. Mary Sue ran the ship, and ran it so well she received the Nobel Peace Prize, the Vulcan Order of Gallantry and the Tralfamadorian Order of Good Guyhood.
However the disease finally got to her and she fell fatally ill. In the Sick Bay as she breathed her last, she was surrounded by Captain Kirk, Mr. Spock, Dr. McCoy, and Mr. Scott, all weeping unashamedly at the loss of her beautiful youth and youthful beauty, intelligence, capability and all around niceness. Even to this day her birthday is a national holiday of the Enterprise.

If you think about it Pizza is the most logical food for diplomacy. It contains within it a number of geometric shapes and principles (e.g., pi/not making a pie pun); it can be made nutritionally complete or satisfying to a number of species' dietary preferences; it can be partitioned and eaten solo as a slice of communally in an act of diplomacy; and it shows a command of biology, chemistry, and technology to create. Pizza is based except for the schizophrenic pedophile who ruins our lives here daily.

Very densely written episode, as Shakespearian as the plays performed within. However the performances by Anton and Lenore left something to be desired. They both do well at the parts which call for them to be subdued or seductive, but Anton's anguish and Lenore's loony spell both felt a bit too overwrought, though I did love the directing for that moment where the screen is filled with her crazy eyes before and after firing.
My absolute favorite thing from this episode was when the phaser set to overload is slowly whining louder and louder, like a ticking timebomb, and it's only because Kirk called a red-alert that he discovered it hidden in the red-alert light panel. That's pure genius. My second favorite part was the return of Lt O'Reilly from The Naked Time as the other last living witness to Kodos' atrocities, aside from Kirk. I was so worried that squirt would be the death of him, what an embarrassing way that would've been to go.
Even if it's obvious that Lenore is the one doing the killings the entire episode, they did a fantastic job leaving you unsure if Anton was really Kodos or not, there was just enough plausible deniability to keep it engaging the whole time.

In Star Trek, humans blew themselves up before getting to all that. And a lot of Star Trek is utopian amd was never intended to be a realistic prediction of where humanity is going.

"Delete the wife" Janeway is S6 actually, common mistake. Her holodeck program under Jeri Taylor was that weird governness fantasy, 100% a woman thing but I think it's actually younger Janeway who hates the holodeck and the older one who embraces it more
>>
>>223362910
I know that's in S6 but she seemed a lot more reluctant to go along with Fair Haven until she figured out she could design her own boyfriend, whereas with her governess stuff she threw herself in right away

Bun Janeway is a lot more friendly and wide-eyed and curious, while Bob Janeway is more of a hardass and jaded, which I suppose comes from the whole being stranded in the ass end of space part, but it's a very sudden change that I always notice since watching VOY 20 times

>that's the funny thing about stage support, models will often sprout details that weren't there earlier in the shoot. I remember the Enterprise on Star Trek: First Contact, that ship sprouted details as the shooting progressed, I can tell you what shot it was by what's on it! I'm like, "okay, that's the third shot because it now has the docking ports..."
>and when they came out to photograph it for the poster, and we weren't done, and I remember it didn't have a deflector dish because the laser cutter had caught on fire, and so we didn't have that capacity!
>and I remember we had the deflector dish from the Excelsior because we had changed the Excelsior to the Enterprise-B on Generations, and I took the deflector dish out of my toolbox and I threw it to Brian Dewey and I said "turn that down until it fits in that hole!" and so he went and turned that thing down and we stuck it in there!
>and on that one day, the Enterprise-E had a blue deflector dish. So you can tell that was that day and that was the only time it was ever there.
>but yeah, that model progressively changed as the shoot went along.
Huh! I always assumed it's what they were going with until something about the scene with the Borg on the dish forced them to change the design to suit what they could build for the set, or something

Is it obvious? I mostly play TOS while I'm doing other stuff so I've never sat down and watched this one but I always assumed it was a regular mystery to us as much as the crew.
>>
>>223372509
The better term I could've used would be "predictable", but even that has the caveat of it being 60 years later and my being 29 years old and a guy who's watched a lot of stuff. It's the sort of twist that was novel for the time, absolutely, but it's pretty easy to get savvy of the writers nowadays and think "It's probably the girl is a secret killer, but why? If her dad is Kodos, then probably [the reasons from the episode], but if he isn't then I couldn't guess."

Anyway, today's episode is Shore Leave. See you in an hour.

This episode has that in common with last episode: modern sensibilities lead to easy predictions, at least partially. From the moment Bones namedrops Alice in Wonderland at the very start and the White Rabbit shows up, it's obvious that the How of this episode is "something skimming surface thoughts and manifesting expected entities" but the Why eludes me the entire time, until the Caretaker steps out from behind the same bush they chased Don Juan into and just explains everything. The whole time I thought there was some surreptitious thing, like a Lotus Eaters or flytrap situation, but no it's an immensely powerful race's plaything being manhandled by a race too simple to really understand what it does. It doesn't have enough buildup/foreshadowing, or follow-through once it had been revealed, but it's not really problematic. Kirk letting the men come down for their rest after all puts a nice little bow on things.
>>223373011
I don't know what DEM means, but if you're talking about the end of episode Coda where they all come back, tell Spock they enjoyed their rest, he says "Most illogical", and they all laugh - yeah that was really hokey and would come across as a parody of the other humorous Codas if it were made today. It's like a sitcom ending. But I did like the long fight between Jim & Finnegan, because the manifestation of his Academy bully did give away the game: "Exactly what you expect me to be, Jimmy boy." was the exact line-read they needed to make it more than just two dudes beating the tar out of eachother on Vasquez Rocks.
Oh wait, does DEM mean "Didn't Even Matter"? Like how the whole plot was inconsequential, right down to Bones dying? We don't even get to know who the hell Ruth is, not even if she's real or fictional. Eh, they can't all be world-movers. Plus it was fun anyway.

You're certainly welcome to think what you want, but I've always thought that DS9 was mostly boring as hell. The only things I liked about it were the episodes when the players portrayed regular characters unrelated to the space station, the episode where Miles' little daughter got lost in another dimension, and any episode with Vic in it. Everything else is shit.

Do we ever see other minor races in other space empires? I honestly don't remember anything like that. Do Kilngons and Romulans have their own Andorians and Tellarites? Or are we supposed to believe they just genocided hundreds of alien races and the Federation doesn't mind
>>
>>223376575
I might feel differently if I watched DS9 again, but IIRC the characters and actors put DS9 above VOY. VOY’s characters and actors are mostly bland and forgettable, with the very notable exception of the Doctor and Seven, which is why they came to dominate the show in later seasons. Tom Paris especially is a-letdown despite the show trying hard to make him a thing; the writing’s not up to snuff and Robert Duncan McNeill can’t elevate the role. Tuvok’s okay, but Chakotay and B’elanna just suck.
>>223376967
TNG had an episode wheee they mentioned a Klingon subject race who were never shown IIRC. The Federation just tries not to think about the awful things Klingons do to any subject races because people like Klingons.
>>
>>223377098
Hard for McNeil to elevate the role without a gimmick. Nimoy and Spiner had strong gimmicks to work with and could always just turn to them even in a mediocre episode that gives them little.
Paris is just a guy and Voy wasn't the right show to make the most of his checkered past.

Honestly Tom Paris would've made way more sense on DS9 where he could occasionally get mixed up in shady business or have old contacts resurface to try to get him off the right path.

until now AI has said end of 2026 or late 2026. this is also the first time ive seen it say the contract was not renewed instead of repeating kurtzmans claims that they were discussing renewal.
i dont usually give any weight to these chatbots but they dont completely make things up. its assuming kurtzman is done because if his contract was extended it would be announced already, he would have projects in development, no have his sets torn down and props auctioned off.

All design decisions on NuTrek look like they were made by some offshore jeet VFX company. There's no consistent design language. They probably gave the Matt Jefferies design to some random jeet and told him to make it look cooler and shinier and that's what he shat out an hour later.
