>Fuller developing his theme of urban alienation: landscape, culture and sexual confusion are all juxtaposed, forcing the Japanese-born detective (who, along with his buddy, is on the hunt for a burlesque queen murderer) into a nightmare of isolation and jealousy. Some fine set pieces - like the disciplined Kendo fight that degenerates into sadistic anarchy - and thoughtful camera-work serve to illustrate Fuller's gift for weaving a poetic nihilism out of his journalistic vision of urban crime.

Rewatching after many years, the ending after the ending is pretty lame, i agree with Moullet that the first ending is strong enough and closes the film in a circle, but then again like the broad says maybe it's because i'm a man. Not one of my favourites from him, still very unique and funny like all his films. And of course based Moullet had a Nathalie Granger poster.

Look there's Spanish speaking people or people of latino descent that I do in fact, respect. Obviously the individual at the top of this list is Gaspar Noé, someone I've looked up to a very, very long time (15 years or so). >>223397648Good list, fellow precode enjoyer.
Let us not forget Employee's Entrance in which William Warren straight up rapes prime Loretta Young and it is sort of no big deal. It was a better time.
>>223402865>LOLz at your reference to her, er, accent. I rarely notice it but it does get mentioned a lot in articles about herI didn't recognize it myself initially, and anyone writing dialogue for her apparently tried quite hard to work around it (barring some exceptions), but I'm always listening out for it now. Glad that I find it endearing.
What's your favourite film title? I think mine is probably Infanzia, vocazione e prime esperienze di Giacomo Casanova, veneziano, because it tells you exactly what the film is. I wish more films did this with their titles, just a direct description of what the film is about.

“The Flavor of Green Tea Over Rice” is probably the best title ever conceived. It is a typical Ozu marriage drama but if anyone has ever had green tea over rice you’ll know it tastes bitter as hell. It’s a perfect metaphor for the film.
>>223415455Investigation of a Citizen Above the Law
>>223415927Green tea's fucking great, matcha is the one that tastes like shit.
>>223416275It’s talking about pouring the green tea into the rice like a shallow broth. It’s incredibly bitter. And yes matcha is a shit ass beverage for California faggots
>>223416304Never had green tea with rice, but I did have jasmine tea with rice. It was nice.
Ochazuke it's called.
>>223415042Thanks. I don't necessarily like a film just because it's pre-code, but they usually have a fun energy (the comedies) or live wire realism (the dramas). There are exceptions of course. The Divorcee, for example, is pretty boring imo depsite the (for the time) scandalous premise that a wife might cheat to get even with her unfaithful husband. A Free Soul (also with Norma Shearer) is better but not great, Gable and Howard are ok but Barrymore feels like he's in a completely different movie. Stick with almost any Joan Blondell movie and you'll be satisfied (careful, she's barely in The Famous Ferguson Case despite being on the dvd cover and the only actor listed).
>>223415927Yeah that's a pretty good one.
>>223416275>>223416304Méril Matcha is good thoughbeit.
>>223416959All I know is everything has matcha in Asia, and all of it tasted like ass (bad). You want a vanilla ice cream? It's vanilla ice cream with matcha now. Ffs.
>>223414745Kek. You couldn't pay me to watch that.

>>223416413Thank you for sharing.
>>223415678>(Joe's a goldmine for beautiful titles (in English at least))The contrast is so funny sometimes. "Tropical Malady" sounds so elegant and refined but the Thai title is just "Monster" or some shit.
>>223415650Kino. Same with leaving characters unnnamed.
>>223417055They also sell matcha chips everywhere you go, it's really crazy lolOh and also, their matcha is like 30% more bitter than the usual one you can buy in America or Europe.
