But it does bug me how muddy and depressing he's making probably the worst era of the middle ages to make depressing. The aesthetics scream "black plague", but it's set during the High Middle Ages because that's when the last wolves of England were being killed off. Problem is that the 1200s were a pretty good time for England all things considered. It's precisely because things were good that they had the time and energy to expand and wipe out the wolves. So for a director as autistic about history, to the point of having them speak middle English, it irks me that it's falling back on very tired misconceptions about the Middle Ages for the sake of atmosphere.
