I love Aliens but I think the idea they just hibernate once hosts are gone is dumb. Maybe you can say they needed more biomass to start a self-sufficient colony but it would be neat to see them create a weird biomechanical planet covered in alien structures

They are also not fully organic. They could easily start using the materials from the planet to start spreading structures all over and making either starships or wormholes or some such to start spreading to elsewhere.
