Al was born in 1948. The Vietnam draft only took men born in 1951 and 1952. Men born as late was 1956 reported for physicals but no one born after 1952 or before 1951 were actually drafted. Even for those two birth years from which all draftees were drawn, not everyone eligible were drafted. The few exceptions were for "special skills" draftees like medical doctors. Being a shoe salesman who threw four touchdowns in a high school game was not considered a special skill.

mill here. my dad (vietnam vet) taught me that any time a boomer freaks out on you just ask if they saw action in vietnam and watch them deflate real fast. the ones who saw action wear little vietnam hats so you don’t have to worry about calling out the wrong guy.
