The 2002 Resident Evil film aims to recreate the experience of playing a Resident Evil game instead of lazily copying the story, characters, and iconography. It feels like Resident Evil. It speaks Resident Evil's language. It has Resident Evil's understanding of space, progression, the use of interconnected spaces. The game is constantly using camera angles that mimic the way the camera works in the games to create tension, to focus on geometry and architecture instead of people. Many of these shots could easily come from a game like Resident Evil 2. Especially the overhead shots. It's bizarre how Resident Evil-like this movie is, and instead of this being acknowledged a lot of people just pretend that it doesn't bear any resemblance.
People generally like Resident Evil for the atmosphere, writing and gameplay, not the terrible camera.
I always liked the first two but that was probably because I was a kid when I watched them and never bothered with the games.
>>223435725Over head with the angle going downwards (like the middle and bottom middle pics), sure, but there is hardly any top down angle in the games like what is showcased in the top right and bottom right pictures. Closest I can think of is this shot, which is unused.
