What are you working on today?
My horror script. I'm worried it's not scary enough
>>223441180A British version of True Detective. It's going well but I'm scared that if I actually manage to do pitch it well they'll ask me about the rest of the season (which I know in my head but probably needs tweaking).Either way, hopefully this can end my run of doing/earning fuck all
>>223441223Have you at least outlined the rest of the episodes?
>>223441214Horror doesn't need to actually be scary. In fact, that would probably hinder the script more than anything. Horror is just an excuse to either do something spooky/cosmic (monsters/aliens etc), have lots of violent deaths, or make a super atmospheric arthouse film that doesn't care about normal interactions
>>223441233Yeah. It's a 6 episode season. My outlines gets noticeably worse halfway through the 4th episode. Episode 5 and 6 are basically 'and then we have a revenge crime thriller split across 2 episodes'.I did write it more detailed than that, but I think I need to properly rewrite the outline.
>>223441252I do have a concept with scary imagery and a couple of gruesome deaths. I'm just not sure there's enough dread being built up. I need to get better at writing the description.
>>223441180I have an avant-garde film concept in mind, but I'm not convinced on it yet. Screenplay's largely stalled, but it would be a 90 minute feature. The scenario is about a man named Bill W. He's a lonely, kind of ugly self-described incel who works at an ice cream store and plays video games with his racist internet friends (he has no real friends). The overall narrative is a doomed love quest wherein he grows distant from his friends in pursuit of a woman, eventually settling on a girl who is a recovering rape victim and BPD drug addict, who has a fear of penises. The film will conclude with him admitting that he hasn't had sex with her to the laughter of his internet friends, and a slow montage showing his growing distance from them and his subservience to this woman.Despite how this may sound auto-biographical, it's actually only loosely based on the life of someone I met on 4chan and have spoken to IRL at various times. He does not know that I've created a fictional version of his life that looks like this.
>>223441293Can you give us a basic outline?Like "group of teens are being hunted by [entity] in the woods".I filmed a low budget horror film recently that's like Pusher crossed with The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Lots of fun. Doubt anyone will find it very scary. Very bloody though.
>>223441289Yeah, it's a lot easier to change and rewrite an outline than an actual script. Learned that the hard way.>>223441366A group of urban explorers discover a forgotten underground bunker where a society has been living since the cold war, who have come up with creative and horrifying ways to survive. I don't want to go into the details, because that's the whole unique hook, but it's not cannibalism.
>>223441365Do you want to write this because you think it would be a good film?Or because his story interests you and you want to dramatise it?It's really easy, especially when you first start writing, to not care about others and be all 'about the art' and expressing yourself and whatnot. Which is fine. Just bear in mind that that often results in an uninteresting film. That doesn't mean you should do the complete opposite and write the most generic inoffensive palate-cleanser possible.
>>223441440>Do you want to write this because you think it would be a good film?I think it would be interesting character study of the modern man. The person in question fascinated me because they were essentially the typical 4chan user in a lot of their rhetoric and behaviors, except they actually 'got the girl' as it were.>Or because his story interests you and you want to dramatise it?This as well.I really don't think it'd be a good film. I think it'd be like one of those arthouse movies that everyone thinks is largely dull and uninteresting.
>>223441433>A group of urban explorers discover a forgotten underground bunker where a society has been living since the cold war, who have come up with creative and horrifying ways to survive.Solid premise. Perhaps cliched but that also makes it safe for both investors and audiences. And you've got your twist to separate it anyway. What sort of tone/vibe you going for? More Apocalypse Now or The Lost City of Z? Temple of Doom but as a horror? Eden Lake but in a more remote setting?
>>223441493The main character sounds too passive. You used the phrase "settling on a girl". What does he actually want? To be with his internet friends? The girl? Both? Why can't he have it? How is he struggling against whatever is stopping him? You'll probably have to take liberties to really dramatize the story.
>>223441585Early on, the vibe is like The Descent (2005), but later on might become more like The Wicker Man (1973), but not 100% certain on that yet.
comedy of remarriage about a priest and a pornstar. I finally started writing and it's going great. It may sound like a joke but i'm dead serious
whenever I put on this album I always get vivid visions of a Mad Max/Conan The Barbarian type of thrash opera with all of the band members in the movie making the soundtrack diegetically as captured performers like that flamethrower guitar guy in Fury Road.the screenplay exists only in my mind, but this thread has given me a push to actually start writing a bit of it.

>>223441832Doesn't the album already have a story like that?
>>223441366>I filmed a low budget horror film recentlyPost it online so we can tell you how you did.
>>223441909yeah, it would basically just be adapting the story to the screen, would have to introduce some protagonist that tries to go and slay the Gila Monster after it pops up, some kind of race towards/around the Supercell, lots of cars, explosions, etc.
>>223441923I'm still editing it. It's gonna take a long time because I'm being super autistic about all the details. I'm confident/arrogant/deluded enough that the image itself looks great. So I need the sound to also be great. Along with the soundtrack and how it's used. And the edit/pacing in general. When it's eventually done and I've sorted its release, I'll probably post something in /hor/.
>>223441755Is it a comedy? What's the hook? I assume there's more to the script than just 'what if a priest and a pornstar were married lol'
Here's a screenplay I wrote, my first one. Let me know if it's any good.>When a struggling recent college grad and her fellow hikers stumble onto a covert foreign military operation in the mountains, she must awaken her buried thirst for violence to survive, fight back, and warn the world.
>>223442321it insists upon itself
>>223442242>what if a priest and a pornstar were married lolthey became priest and a pornstar after nasty divorce. They meet years later at a porn convention. Priest is there to spread the gospel to "sinners", she's there for work. They struck up a conversation and they realize hey still love each other. It ends with them remarrying
>>223442242and yes, it's a comedy. Structurally similar to movies like blue jay or the first movie from the sunset trilogy
>>223443132Thanks for reading, appreciate the feedback. I'm just curious what you think it is insisting though?
>>223443270>>223443270>Priest is there to spread the gospel to "sinners",Anon, I don't think that's a thing. Maybe you know more than me, but most priests tend to stick to their churches and avoid 'activist' shenanigans. At planned parenthood, you get protesters but not priests. At night in some towns and cities, you get small kiosks and stands with religious members (all religions afaik) handing out coffee to drunk people. But I don't know of any recent stories of priests going to places where they aren't 'wanted' to try and preach. It turns people off the church.
