Why does it feel like it had so little cultural impact nowadays compared to the Simpsons, Family Guy, South Park, even American Dad, when I remember at the time it was considered as good or better than most of them?
>>223446635>at the time it was considered as good or better than most of themlmao no. Like Family Guy it only became popular after cancelation when they aired reruns on Adult Swim. Unlike Family Guy it had no momentum after they brought it back.
>>223446689But I still see classic Family Guy clips reposted on Instagram or characters used in memes, that just doesn't happen with Futurama.
>>223446689>Unlike Family Guy it had no momentum after they brought it back.Because they didn't get most of the elite writers who wrote the original seasons. Family Guy actually improved a little after it came back, before it declined. By that point though it had a good reputation. Futurama was never quite as good as the original seasons when it came back.
The original Fox run was the only decent era of the show and it was primarily popular with Millenials. The Comedy Central and Hulu seasons were all dogshit so it never really passed on well to Zoomers
>>223446706try reading my post again
>>223446635Sci-fi VS "normal" world
>>223446751Ok it didn't have momentum, but it still had the at the time popularity that led to the revival. That should still leave some residual cultural influence, but you just never see it.
zoomers
The recent seasons were so shit it brought down the overall average of the series.
>>223447060If that's how it worked the Simpsons would have zero cultural impact at all. They've had almost 5x as many zombie or bad seasons as good.
>>223447091The Simpsons aren't really relevant with Zoomers or Gen A either. They definitely recognize them but they hardly ever watched the show including the classic era.
>>223446635Because it was actually good for the first 5-6 seasons.
>>223447361And the other shows weren't?
>>223447091>the Simpsons would have zero cultural impact at allYes
>>223446635Rewatching Futurama today is honestly pretty hard, tons of millennial humor that was fresh at the time but has since gone totally stale. It's fairly boring compared to the others.
>>223447548>Rewatching Futurama today is honestly pretty hard, tons of millennial humorEarly seasons were written by the same boomer Simpsons writers you fucking retard.
>>223447588The Simpsons is fucking dog shit so that makes sense.
>>223447598Weak b8, m8
>>223447548How did Millennials get jobs writing Futurama when they were in middle school when it came out?
>>223447598>The Simpsons is fucking dog shit so that makes sense. So you hate Simpsons because of all that MILLENNIAL HUMOR? Fucking retard.
Having "cultural impact" isn't a good thing any more. Zoomers and alphas are so fucking retarded and tiktok brained that they will never appreciate quality kino. Obsession made a cultural impact and it was fucking garbage.
>>223447659I'm saying it has that same type of humor, where do you think millennials learned it from? It wasn't as cringey Millennial Humor™ is today, but you can see how it was the progenitor of that kind of thing. The show simply doesn't hold up that well anymore, it was a product of its time, and that time has come and gone. It wasn't bad when it was around, but it's not the type of thing that will be remembered the way Family Guy or South Park will be.
>>223447780>. The show simply doesn't hold up that well anymore,It's first 4 seasons are kino of the highest order you fucking retard.
>>223447780>Family Guy>South Park>Remembered
>>223448165fraid so
>>223446635>Why does it feel like it had so little cultural impactno catch phrases/funny jokes for people to repeat like the simpsons. simple as. only thing i ever catch myself repeating from the show is..for no raisin
>>223446635>starts covering modern topics in a show set in the future
>>223446706Sci-fi humor is too high brow for normiecattle
>>223449105
>>223449309And always 5 (1005) years after they're relevant, since they're playing catchup w/ stuff they missed on every new reboot. I'll admit I find the new stuff still decent enough, but they simply aren't the same
>>223449105In the early 2000s I wouldn't drink until 8pm because of this scene. Now I drink all day. I'll do whatever I wanna be.
>>22344938199% of people dont live on message boards..you pull your phone out to show off your fry meme when people say something fitting?
>>223449449>In the early 2000s I wouldn't drink until 8pmi wouldnt..since i was still a kid. but now im old...and you're super duper old.. what happened?
>>223449555Time comes for us all, Christopher. Nice trips.
>>223446635This show was only good up until the movies, much like many a fox show.
>american dad>cultural impact
>>223449655This gif has had more cultural impact than all of Futurama
The "shut up and take my money" or the "oh you're serious let me laugh even harder" is more relevant than any Family Guy meme.
>>223447091>the Simpsons would have zero cultural impact at all90% of the Simpsons "cultural impact" was with GenX who watched them from the late 80s (I liked them when they would appear on the Tracey Ulman Show) until most of us stopped watching them about 20-25 years ago, outside of that there's not much "impact"
>>223450598>The "shut up and take my money" or the "oh you're serious let me laugh even harder" is more relevant than any Family Guy meme.but they're visual memes...you've probably never heard someone make a futurama reference in person...while the simpsons has 'doh' 'ha ha' 'thank you come again' and countless others. i enjoyed the first few seasons of futurama over most of the simspons, but i can see why it was less popular culturally than simpsons/family guy.
I said Good news everyone in my group text message last week.
>>223451027did they all read it in his voice?
>>223446747It had the nerd appeal of being the underdog show that was cancelled before its time. Bring it back, run it into the ground, and it loses that appeal
>>223450598Shut up and take my money, yeah. Oh my god, who the hell caress is probably one of the more popular Family Guy memes. That said, Family Guy is still very popular. The whole cutaway gag and bite sized gag structure of the show turned out to be perfectly suited for modern internet. Clip compilations are very popular on YouTube.
>>223449309I've been watching the Comedy Central episodes recently and they're mostly ok. But the "topical" episodes like the "eyephone" one are abysmal. I haven't seen the whole thing but I can't believe they decided to double down on that stuff for the first Hulu season. It's like they learnt nothing.
>>223446635>cultural impactSHUT THE FUCK UP WITH THIS IMAGINARY METRIC OF ABSOLUTELY NOTHING FUCK OFF
>>223446635To shreds you say
I liked the original run a lot but even then the jokes felt fucking dated. Like I got most of them but only because I had an interest in history/older media. Cant jmagine how bewildering it must be for a zoomer or alpha to watch it now
>>223446635because it ended. the rest of those shows are still going because they lasted long enough to find new massive audiences among the third world as they came online for the first time. south americans love the simpsons, indians love family guy, etc.futurama actually got new seasons and is still currently airing new episodes today, but nobody really cares because it's only on hulu and not in syndication in the third world.>>223451429>mad that xhe lost the culture war
I just tortured myself getting through the last season. That was excruciating.
you ironically have to be slightly smarter or more literate to understand the jokes in Futurama. You have to have a rudimentary understanding of golden age sci-fi.
I find the seasons before the movies (which felt like forever before the show returned) to absolutely mog early simpsons. Every ep is like a self contained movie, the animation, humor, writing, action, cast of characters it all feels way above your usual adult cartoon and thats back when they were good. Top 5 adult cartoons probably next to KotH, Boondocks, ATHF, Frisky Dingo and maybe peak south park.
>>223451027To shreds you say?
>>223446635I'm completely serious but I think it's likely due to the stuff Mark Fisher wrote about with the "cancellation of the future." Shit being so fucking lame made everyone retreat into nostalgia instead of appreciating futurist settings. Even cyberpunk lost its weight since we just live in it. We got a president that does rug pull crypto digital currency scams for his CEO buddies. Lacking the flying cars is kind of irrelevant.
SNOO SNOO
It’s a pretty boring show
It's a pretty exciting show
>>223450956>but they're visual memes.So fucking what?
This show Rocks
>>223451116>That said, Family Guy is still very popular. So popular that eps post season 6 are never posted about here.> Clip compilations are very popular on YouTube.>zoomers watch media like retardsAgain, who gives a shit?
>>223452290it doesn't matter if you give a shit. the point is that Family Guy is still culturally relevant and popular as evidenced in part by the popularity of clips on youtube
>>223446635Never had the same mainstream following. It had a solid fanbase of nerds, but never resonated with the normies the way The Simpsons did. Same problem Arrested Development and, to a lesser extent, even Malcom in the Middle had. >>223446689It wasn't [adult swim] that was the primary factor in saving Family Guy and bringing in a larger following of normies: it was TBS. If it had only been on [as] I believe it would have fared no better than Futurama.Same goes for American Dad. TBS spamming the hell out of it made it far more relevant than it ever would have been airing once a week on Fox. That brought it to the same people who were watching reruns of The Big Bang Theory.>>223446747>primarily popular with MillenialsI'd say it was a mix of younger Gen-Xers and older Millenials. The younger Millenials were too young to appreciate it when it originally aired.
>>223451524The show is just so fucking reddit in the worst way. Every season in order goes harder and harder into the “yes science !” Thing>>223446635The only good epicodes are when they go to a random planet for an adventure (a la Star Trek style adventure of the week).Any of the earth centric episodes are just dreckEspecially anything with old New York, or those 20th century celebrities in jars, anything with the kids, qubert or Dwight. Any episode that’s a lazy parody of a better show (and there are a lot). When it’s actully a bit original it’s good.
Go by cultural impact!OK... First Bender, then Flexo, then Fry
Futurama's single greatest contribution to human culture was introducing muscle girls to the vulnerable masses
>>223452676Yep
>>223452644>Any of the earth centric episodes are just dreckNot true at all.-A Fishful of Dollars-Hell is Other Robots-How Hermes Requisitioned His Groove Back-The Luck of the Fryrish-The Cyber House Rules-I Dated A Robot-Bender Should Not Be Allowed on TV-Jurassic Bark-Spanish Fry-The Devil's Hands Are Idle PlaythingsAre all Earth-centric and some of the best and most beloved episodes. And that's even after excluding the sewer/Old New York episodes and The Deep South even though they were technically on Earth because they were still kind of adventure-y, and also Roswell that Ends well because of the time-travel element.
>>223449105>to shreds you say>I don't want to live on this planet anymore>shut up and take my money
The first seasons are 10/10. Fry and the Slurm factory and the one where they go to Mars University with the bowler hat monkey are hilarious. It has some of that Harvard Lampoon dna that doesn't exist anymore.
>>223446635I don't know. When I entered college, every single dude knew every episode by heart and quoting from Futurama all the time. But gradually, it just started to suck for so long it kind of retroactively killed some of the joy. Classic Futurama is probably better remembered than actual classic South Park, though. American Dad is nowhere in this conversation.
>>223451027Pretty long, eh?
>How many atmospheres can the ship take?>Well it's a space ship, so anywhere from zero to one
>>223449309One of the most recent episodes had a Pizzagate storyline
>>223446635It was great in S1 and S2, good in S3 and S4, okay in S5 and then post cancellation was just not it at all.
>>223446635Technically correct, the best kind of correct.
>>223446635Its drawn out and boring death turned it into a show you dont wanna think about. People always quote just the first two seasons.
>>223449105I have no strong feelings one way or the other.
What makes you think it has less cultural impact than Family Guy or American Dad
>>223447819No it isn't.It flounders a lot and doesn't know what it wants to be.Amy can only carry it so much.
May you bounce in peace
>>223446635I disagree. I regularly hear zapp brannigan references semi regularly irl. Especially>I have a very sexy learning disability>She's built like a steakhouse but she handles like a bistro>Stop exploding you cowards!
>>223446635I was hugely disappointed by itVastly inferior to prime Simpsons
I absolutely love the early seasons, but the problem is that if you are an old show, your relevance today is entirely tied to whether or not people bother to make clips for people to doomscroll on TikTok or instagram. That’s literally it. There’s a million other shows that were also popular back in the day that don’t have much cultural relevance anymore. Rugrats, Kim Possible, the Powerpuff girls, Adventure Time, Yu Gi Oh.
>>223449105>that just raises further questions!>war were declared>that’s comin’ out of your pay
>>223452936The Grunka Lunkas make me piss myself every time >Look everyone, the disgusting little men are starting to sing!
>>223454767>Yu Gi Oh.I see yugioh memes and gifs all the times.
american dad never even reached this level https://youtu.be/iSlJwpAmKjUin terms of meme relevancy.
>>223454866>>223452936The slur. Factory is just a tired parody of Willy womka. It just gets sort of tiresome when every episode is a parody
What impact has American Dad had, at all?
>>223452504>it doesn't matter if you give a shit. the point is that Family Guy is still culturally relevant and popular as evidenced in part by the popularity of clips on youtubeI guess AI slop is culturally relevant too then.
>Writing Staff changes>Show goes to shitMany such cases. Also, John DiMaggio told his own fans to fuck off during BLM if they dared to say ALL lives mattered. Fuck him.
>>223456410But they aren't. Also, parodies can be funny. Get the stick out of your ass.
>>223456487Zero. This dork is making shit up based on his personal feelings.
>>223456654>but they aren’t That just means you haven’t seen the movie or tv show it is parodying. It’s all parody, all the way down
>>223446635Futurama will always be underrated, the way it was meant to be. And yes, it's better than all of those. Always was.
>>223446635I'm not sure the '50s scifi parody concept resonated much with anyone younger than Gen X.
>>223457470Millenials got onto futurama pretty bigly, just because of how good golden era simpsons was.Futurama was still never going to outshine the simpsons though, The simpsons has near universal appeal
>>223457470>>223457509A lot of futurama references work because you don’t need to get the reference to find the joke funny.Chances are nobody under 40 will get that Nixon giving everyone 300 dollars even was a reference, for example, but the episode still works regardless.
>>223457560>Better do as he says. He's a whale-biologist.
One of the zoomettes at my work loves singing "I love stealin, I love takin things" whenever she's using other people's shit, it's cute
>>223446635man i tried watching this again from the start after finishing the first 8 seasons of the simpsons and sure it's better than a lot of slop out there but really nowhere near as good as i remembered when i was 12 and mogged p hard by season 1-4 simpsons
