Could maybe have recessed threads like the current threaded ones. If it's a .32 then I think 7/16" or 11mm threads would leave the barrel thick enough to be safe but there would be very little room for a thread protector/adaptor. If you start out with a .32 barrel that uses the OD of the .380 barrel like the current .32s there would be a little more room and I think this is how the current SD works.
