>>223456888Nothing to understand, it's just nonsense from a druggie.
Jodorowsky is an esoteric surrealist. His language is symbolic, so you have to be into that shit to appreciate his work. That's all there is to his movies, really. In them, every other artistic aspect of cinema is negligible.

>>223456888Alejandro Jodorowsky’s El Topo is not meant to be read as a conventional narrative. Rather, Jodorowsky uses the familiar framework of the Spaghetti Western as a stage for a surreal cascade of religious, philosophical, and esoteric parables. The film’s first half maintains a recognizable plot structure. El Topo, a ruthless black-clad gunslinger, wanders a stark desert landscape to challenge four master gunfighters. On the surface, it unfolds like a standard revenge or duel story. In reality, each gunfighter embodies a distinct spiritual posture or philosophical doctrine. El Topo defeats each master through increasingly deceitful, morally compromised tactics, only to discover that achieving victory leaves him hollow. Winning does not elevate his soul; it exposes his utter spiritual bankruptcy. This realization triggers a drastic, tonal shift in the second half. Shot and buried alive, El Topo awakens years later inside a subterranean cavern, rescued and adopted by a community of outcast, physically disabled people. Stripped of his weapons and ego, he assumes a messianic role, dedicating his life to helping them escape their underground prison. Here, the Western motif vanishes, replaced by a surreal religious allegory centered on redemption and humility.Several core themes unify these distinct acts: Ego and Masculinity: El Topo initially equates martial dominance with personal superiority. The Futility of Violence: Defeating rivals brings no wisdom or lasting peace. Syncretic Religion: Christian iconography collides with Eastern philosophy and occult symbolism. Death and Rebirth: A literal death forces El Topo to confront the ruin of his past life. The Absurdity of Enlightenment: Symbolism is made intentionally grotesque and absurd.Ultimately, the first half explores El Topo’s quest to become a superior man, while the second charts his attempt to become a better one. Finding it profound or pretentious is part of the experience.
>>223456888Yeah best to turn this one off at the half way mark.
