I saw this idea floating about, a decade ago? And it's been on my mind ever since. It would've added so much dynamism to HP, it would have helped elevate it from young teen fiction to something more adult having the effective representation of the head of the house of Slytherin be a capable hot chick who was crushing on the MC, and eventually turned good for the MC - but with a bittersweet "look but don't touch" ending with HP still ending up with Hermione.The "Evil house", the "Good heroes house" setup was always so shit. Well, the entire series is shit and the writing and the contrivances as well, but comfy.It's a real shame, anyone tackling the boarding school wizard and witches aspect in fiction has to write something amazing to even have a chance at tackling that genre again. Which is doubly hard in an age with instant world wide communication and kids having spent years "going to school from home".I personally think 1800's German boarding school hidden deep within a forest focusing on old pagan magic rituals, or "slow magic", i.e. what JK did with her potions but having that be the main source of magic (slow, sometimes decade long spells that require a lot of attention and fine tuning along the way), with the major theme being outsiders trying to steal genetics, secrets, language... Basically aggressive mimicry, would be a comfy setting and world.
