The movie cut out the really weird off the wall stuff from the book. The tooth fairy goes to the museum where the original Red Dragon painting is housed and rips it off the wall and eats it. He also fakes his death at the end by blowing some guys head off with a shotgun in front of the blind woman who he tricked into thinking he killed himself. There's probably a lot of other weird stuff I can't remember because it's been twenty years since I read the book. Manhunter is really good. I haven't seen Red Dragon since it was released so I remember basically nothing about it.Didn't bother with the gay Hannibal show.

As a long time fan of the books and Manhunter and the Silence of the Lambs movie, I couldn't stomach the gay subtext between Will and Hannibal and how silly and contrived and cheap the whole thing felt. Will was a sniveling little bitch boy and Hannibal was a suave giga chad gayly seducing Will. It felt like "the writers barely disguised fetish" and his fetish was wanting Mads Niggleson to humiliate and then fuck Will in the ass until Will loved it and willingly became Mads submissive bottom fuck toy. It was not at all like the books or movies.
Red Dragon was flawed, but great. Manhunter was so bad I couldn't even finish it. Shit looks like it was shot on the first VHS recorder in history. Even the audio was pretty low quality.
