it was good. a mixture of parody on the almost linear progress found in resident evil, one liner side characters, and pays homage to the game's mechanics, such as inventory management, scenarios, and monster overload. idk why people mention that it's symbolic to fatherhood... rather, there's about 5 2-minute segues where his girlfriend, who is never seen in the movie, only heard, has some back and forth with the main character. 3 of those segues are about him coming to term with his death, but continuing to complete his courier task. yes, there's a scene where he literally shouts, "VIDEO GAMES," but you have to recognize that the movie is an entirely satirical take on modern men. yea, you can argue that it doesn't have the main characters of the actual game, but i consider this standalone as a prelude to what happens in raccoon city, which was explained in 2 sentences towards the end by one of the scientist. that being said, the ending was weak but the movie itself is a standalone that doesn't need people hyperanalyzing (the "fatherhood" symbolism) moments, and if you do, you miss out on 3/4 of the entire blockbuster.
