I'd rather have a Japanese remake or even an anime.It would probably suck, or at least be as good as Terminator Zero.(They could also do a prequel series like Crystal Lake, but would YOU watch a movie/series about Freddy during his early ped...on second thought, that might be TOO relevant)
People just need to get over it with Englund. No actor going to want to ape another actors performance. They going to want to do their own version. People cried nobody could replace Jack as The Joker and Ledger did his own thing

If a reboot happens, and I suppose it eventually will, the way to make the public accept a new actor is to have his Freddy be an improvement on the first. Watch the series again and you'll notice that when it takes a turn towards comedy-horror (which begins in 3, I think), most of Freddy's one-liners are not funny. A couple of them raise a chuckle – "Welcome to primetime, bitch!" – while the rest are lame. If the new Freddy tells actually funny jokes, then I'm sure his new actor will do well.
I honestly think emphasis on practical effects, proper lighting and makeup for Freddy should be the focus. He was honestly barely on screen in the original and when he was it was dark, he was partially obstructed and/or moving fast. He also barely had any lines. Robert Englund is iconic and irreplaceable, but a lot more went into making those first few movies work than just his acting. You need interesting dream sequences and kills more than anything for these movies I think.
