The real reason for all of this is that everything in Dragon Ball Z is Toriyama taking the piss out of the audience. It's a joke at their expense and they're gobbling it up.Dragon Ball was a gag manga and a pastiche of Buddhist myths and Honk-Kong martial arts movies. It had a clear ending point and a "happily ever after" for all characters while they were all still relevant. Dragon Ball Z is just one giant joke at the audience's expense.

Read the manga last year from the start of Dragon Ball all the way to the end of DBZ and was honestly surprised at how simplistic the story and characters were. Toys are making money the movies, video games, it's a huge franchise by this point. So we get the very messy Android/Cell Saga and then the constant fake outs of the buu saga and then it just stops for no reason, mostly cause Toriyama was rich enough and tired. I genuinely like the Roshi training stuff with Krillin and Goku and their tournament, it's pretty comfy.

>>223472352In Super? Super is very much focused on Goku and Vegeta, but at times can be more ensemble. Gohan, Piccolo and Bulma do pop up with significant relevance. Then there's later moments for the other supporting characters too. I enjoyed Super and felt it was a faithful and fun continuation, with only saga that kind of dragged a bit. Also, you should watch DBZ Kai if you haven't. It's a more streamlined version of DBZ that cuts down filler. The android saga starts more balanced trying to give Z fighters more to do, initially anyway. A lot of the super saiyan wank was extended because of filler.
