Yeah if you want everything cut nicely, then a monthly maintenance on trimming hedges etc is a requirement.I planted a lot of native species which I let grow out through the year and when it's autumn I spent a weekend or two trimming back everything and reworking the ground with fresh soil and manure. Collecting fallen leaves and making compost out of it. Or foraging things like berries and nuts to eat.It's enjoyable work too once you put up a little garden with fruits and veggies. Unironically the only solace I have in this bureaucratic shitstain of a modern world is my yard.But yes, I agree with you. Americans and their obsession with their yards is unhealthy and actually goes in against nature.
