Despite ST2 being a made for TV movie turned into theatrical film, it still worked well with the visuals and effects. Lots of diffused lighting and dim set.
ST3 just felt like a very different movie tonally, all split up into weird acts
>enterprise at space dock
>then cut to klingons wanting to steal genesis
>then cut to Saavik and David on Genesis
>then back to the enterprise
>then back to Genesis
>then back to the enterprise blowing up
>now kirk is fighting the klingon commander on the planet
>wait one more thing here's vulcan and spock coming back to life

all the while the sets are lit in a way thats too jarring. also that excelsior bridge is fucking huge lol
