>>223481793Nicholson is so great in this scene. Imagine being some random bartender, or even a guy who's known Jack for some time, and having to listen to this. The character is a total piece of shit human being, imagine the poor barkeep having to listen to this creep and maintain a poker face. Jack's rationalizing in front of the camera for several seconds (Lloyd's POV) is both great, and also held as a single shot for several seconds. And then Lloyd and the booze suddenly disappear as Wendy barges in.

>>223481843I had an idea that Lloyd is Jack’s “Tony” unlike the novel we don’t actually know what Tony is and Kubrick deviated so much from King’s book I just assumed he’s not supposed to be future Danny. Lloyd is the only character Jack genuinely opens up to and spirit in the hotel he recognizes.
