So apparently the real Fitzcarraldo disassembled the paddlesteamer and carried it over the mountain in pieces, then rebuilt it and loaded it with enough rubber to make a substantial profit when he travelled back to town down the other river

Aguirre is terrible. Fitzcarraldo is significantly better.
Aguirre had no script, they were just making it up as they went along. It's a complete mess.
Fitz feels like an actual movie.
