I don't get why he hates Primetime so much. The worst thing he does in the movie is cheat on his wife, and nobody is coming out of the film sympathizing with the pedophiles. He would be much cooler if he started acting like he really saw a demon in India in 1996, had a meltdown that left him incapacitated on the floor, and actually talked to Dan the decoy.
>>
>>223484134
he doesn't like the idea of people digging into his life because of the skeletons. think of the type of people that get real enthusiastic and passionate about "pedo hunting" and consider how many of them are deluded pedos themselves. he's thankful that the red herring that is his infidelity is what captivated people but more media attention may cause them to check more closets.
>>
>>223484134
he probably secretly loves the attention it's getting him, he's just playing into the drama because that gets even more people talking about him. if he was actually pissed off he'd be suing them by now.

His interactions with the pedos are half caricaturized. There are falsehoods, calling his moral policing into question is denying that most of society do not want kids fucked bc its a source of social problems. Pedo defenders will never get it's larger than one person.
>>
>>223484134
Maybe he really does have a bit of the ego and god complex they caricature. I saw the movie and liked the humor and cinematography, it was very enjoyable. I do get why Hansen would be a little unsettled that they made his biopic a spiritual successor to nightcrawler.

Sick, failed, cattle propaganda picture for the Epstein class.

The message some people got from the film is much better explored in Nightcrawler. Cheering for Hansen to sue the people who made this trash. They really could've just made it a parody of TCAP and changed everyone's names, but didn't because they need the TCAP name to get any marketing attention.

Disregarding my moral issues with the film, the writing to me was weak, completely inaccurate to even the episodes the movie tries to recreate, scattered brained film school student remake of Nightcrawler, lazy visuals (putting neon lights in front of an actor is so lazy), substanceless plot, forced supernatural monster to try to add some substance to a film that is substanceless.
A lazy metaphor that was forced because the movie lacked substance.
Film is shot like a horror movie at times to really try to paint Hansen as a monster.
Shoved in there last minute to make the movie seem deeper, more esoteric.

Pattinson isn't even doing a good Hansen impression. The voice goes in and out, and he's really just doing an imitation of Jake Gyllenhaal from Nightcrawler. Pattinson plays Hansen as a twitchy, kind of autistic eccentric guy, when Hansen is nothing like that. Hansen, to me, in interviews and the show, really comes off as a stern, Midwestern, boomer cop dad, nothing like Gyllenhaal in Nightcrawler.

Just propaganda at it's stupidest and most obvious. It really feels like the movie is talking down to you the whole time.

The intentionally, muddled message of this film to me is clearly "guys catching pedos and sensationalism is erm wrong and le bad... and you know maybe these pedo guys were kinda not that bad, and more innocent than you think, and this Hansen is actually kind of a delusional bad person. Hes kind of a kook. Vigilant justice bad. Cops are stupid and bad."

It paints almost all its predators with some screentime in a sympathetic light.

"Oh the Texas district attorney pedo...just wanted to watch musicals with a boy... poor guy...disabled pedo just wanted to get a hug, he's disabled so it's okay that he wants to do things to a young boy...poor guy...the first Indian pedo is a solider...he doesn't deserve this poor guy... the rabbi pedo...now that guy is a real voice of reason... what gives hansen the right to do this" almost all the pedo scenes portray the pedos in a sympathetic light except for the whipped cream scene I would say.

The scene of rabbi pedo looking at the camera and yelling: "HOW DARE YOU JUDGE ME AND JUDGE OTHERS? YOU THINK YOU HAVE THE RIGHT TO DO THAT?" perfectly captures everything about Primetime (2026).

In this house, Chris Hansen is a hero! End of story!

What's funny is that the rabbi monologue scene didn't happen in the show. In the show, they arrested a rabbi pedo, but he didn't give some rant/monologue like the movie shows.

I think a lot of people were judging this movie without even seeing it. I wanted to hold off on any expectations and see it for myself.

I knew it would be impossible for them to make the preds empathetic, so they didn't, but people were right that it painted Hansen in a bad light. He was unhinged, autistic, hallucinating, a nervous wreck; infidelity was a major plotline despite it not happening until years later.

>>223487002
Agreed. The whole movie I was thinking they were trying to poorly imitate Nightcrawler. If that movie didn't already exist, it would've at least been a creative new spin on things, but it's been done, and much better.

The main difference between Nightcrawler and Primetime is that Jake Gyllenhaal's character is absolutely ruthless and cutthroat, whereas Pattinson's portrayal of Chris Hansen actually has some sort of moral compass. They are both extremely ambitious, but I found Primetime to be more interesting in the sense that Chris Hansen is literally battling an ancient demon. I thought the dialogue about public corporal punishment and how television has essentially replaced it was the key to understanding Hansen's characterization in the film. He genuinely believes that he is battling the physical embodiment of evil itself (the entire India sequence was kino). The sequence with the pedophile rabbi is also good because it calls into question Hansen's moral authority. Why should he get to play judge, jury, and executioner? Finally, I like how the film ends with Dan getting his actor's guild membership because it's a reminder that everything he did was meticulously orchestrated and rehearsed by Hansen (who is a genuine auteur, even if he doesn't recognize it). Everything from the cookies and pizza (props) to the bait houses (sets) to the decoys (actors) to Hansen's corny one-liners (dialogue) are part of the mise-en-scene, despite these interactions being fueled by the darkest part of male sexuality.

Best kino of the year (so far).
>>
>>223487407
that wasn't my takeaway at all. the movie really doesn't try to make you sympathetic for any of them. you're just describing the people. if anything it shows you that pedos can come from all walks of life, that the evil walks among us and we don't even realize it. which you would already be aware of if you watched TCAP.

the only one that I could sort of see being construed as even somewhat sympathetic is the "I just wanted to watch musicals with you" part, but to me that scene felt like it was trying to get you to feel bad for Decoy Dan, not the DA. Dan is the emotional center of the movie, he's just a regular dude who wants to be an actor and gets unwittingly dragged into this horrible thing that traumatizes him and it culminates with him being party to a suicide. I took it as Dan trying to console himself more than anything.
>>
>>223487407
You right that the wanting to watch musicals and being sung to was weird, and almost feels like they are trying to make us feel bad for him. But have you seen TCAP? The pedos are portrayed pretty accurate to the show. The disabled guy was like the show. All the pedos on the show talk about how they are depressed and lonely. Rabbi getting angry, grabbing Chris, and telling him to shut it down, doesn't make him look good in any way.
>>
>>223487636
It does so much to humanize almost all the pedos that have more than a minute of screen time.

I will rewatch Primetime but I swear they don't even mention that the real DA had a bunch of CP on his computer. The movie just shows him regretting decisions, not sure if he wants to continue writing to kids, and him wanting to talk about musicals. He's portrayed in a sympathetic light much like all the other pedos in the film.

Everyone working for TCAP is portrayed as slimy, creepy, idiotic, or sociopathic. Every pedo is portrayed as remorseful, nieve and lonely. There's a joke with Hansens producer asking him if his mistress is of age, as well.

The cop scene where a stupid cop talks about being a fan of the show, is the writer/director telling his audience that you're a stupid wannabe cop if you like the show.
>>
This film really is fucking revolting
>>
>>223484134
Badly made, outright fictionalizes certain encounters to shove the director's message in the forefront, fucks up the timeliness all to paint a picture that the director wanted. A good biopic would represent the thing as they happened, his downfall happened after dateline ended and the infidelity and his failure when he tried to make a comeback in the Onision Era then rising out of the failure to make a real comeback in the 2020s. That's how it should have gone.
>>
>>223487726
Rabbi's monolgue isn't even in the real TCAP episode. The movie is 95% fiction, even when it comes to recreating scenes from the real show. Hansen affair happend wat after the show. He acts nothing like Pattersons portrayal. The DA episode is nothing like what you see in the final scenes.

Here's a clip of the disabled pedo btw. Notice how it's completely different from the film:
https://youtu.be/UOO8TjKyGr4

2 minutes in. Interaction looks much creepier than the innocent disablederino in the film. Show also explains that he was married and interacted with other minors as well.

>>223487689
>but I found Primetime to be more interesting in the sense that Chris Hansen is literally battling an ancient demon.

That’s your opinion, but I saw that whole Pattinson/Hansen monologue just to be bullshit sweet talk in order to get the Dan Plum character to buy into his acting role.

Also, Phoebe Bridgers was shit. Dislike her music also, but she was really non impactful and hurt the film to some extent in my eyes

It’s not creative at all however. If A24 literally didn’t pander for boomer nostalgia with this NBC/Dateline likeness and just wrote a film that was inspired by TCAP it would’ve worked a lot better imo. But they kind of trashed the legacy of TCAP while failing to make any cohesive point in the process other than “Everyone in entertainment industry is narcissistic and self-interested”. >The sequence with the pedophile rabbi is also good because it calls into question Hansen's moral authority.

The rabbi scene is exact moment I realized the film fully sympathizes with its pedos, and really is just a giant smear peice against Hansen.

The rabbi has no moral soapbox to stand on. "WHAT GIVES YOU THE RIGHT?" A religious man asks what gives a man isn't a pedophile the right to judge him, and the film paints this as some huge moral question. He stares at the camera condemning Hanson.

The film has a vague message of "erm media and fame and power bad or something," but since it's based on TCAP and real life people, it also has to deal with such a subject like pedophilia, and really wants to poke a hole of "erm maybe...this is fine". The whole monster aspect of the movie is so ambiguous its really up to the viewer what it means. To me, I just saw it as "omg Hansen is going super schizo, he's le crazzzyyy, this evil guy is a kook". The monster to me is just what I assumed the filmmaker sees someone like Hansen, a man obsessed with/searching for evil wanting to bring it to justice, and someone who will always chase evil. Hansen is staring into the void, evil reflects itself quote. That sort of thing. I found the film to be some of the most heinous propaganda I've seen in a long time.

I would've casted Patrick Wilson as Hansen. He just looks the part so well imo.

To anyone who thinks that this movie is pedo propaganda, have you actually seen anybody, even a single person, who has walked away from this movie saying "damn maybe pedos aren't that bad actually"? Because I haven't. In all the discussion I've seen, from both people who liked and disliked the movie, there is a pretty much unanimous agreement that pedos are evil cunts. So it's not very effective propaganda, is it? Also the majority of the audience are zoomers who are extreme conscious of age gap relationships and are likely to call you a pedo for sleeping with an 18 year old, or TCAP fans who are curious. This isn't. mass market, normie movie. So who do you think the propaganda is aimed at? It's clearly not convincing anyone, or is aimed at anybody who might be convinced.

Maybe it isn't propaganda? Maybe the fact that nearly everybody who has actually watched the movie says the pedos are not portrayed sympathetically should tell you something?

What gives you the moral authority to criticize the pedophile rabbi? It's the same moral authority that Chris Hansen talks about later in the film. The part about how "decent, civilized Western towns" or whatever used to publicly humiliate and punish weird sex perverts and degenerates that threatened the social fabric. That's what the film is getting at. I don't understand how anyone can say it's pro-pedophile when you have a retarded guy spraying whipped cream on his cock and making a fool of himself.

I tried to watch the 'Predators' documentary that came out same sort of time and it really had fucking nothing. It was just TCAP scenes with sinister music and long pauses post-speech to falsely insert an uncertain air.

In the end I scrapped it and just started watching the actual TCAP.
>>
>>223487962
>So who do you think the propaganda is aimed at?

Normies and Gen Z. Anyone who's not a fan or hasn't seen the show, will now associate TCAP with this movie. "Oh Hansen? That creepy guy? That guy is fucked up." It is a smear peice. It also does every little petty thing to smear him including making the pedos seem like mostly innocent, nieve losers who were handled harshly.

>It's clearly not convincing anyone, or is aimed at anybody who might be convinced.
It is there to be soft, muddled propaganda. It's there to tell you that doing any kind of vigilante justice is bad, even for pedos. It tells you that you're a creep or stupid for liking the show, and that you're barely different from the pedos portrayed on the show.
>>

>>223487873
That move only works if you already accept that moral plainness is vulgar. Catching someone who came to rape a child is plain. Asking whether the host had the right to judge is the kind of sentence that gets you into festivals. The pedo needs that sentence to count as depth. A normal viewer calling the sentence obvious propaganda is a threat because it collapses the costume. “Not art” would mean they have to go back to the chats. “You just wanted it on your side” is how they stay in the theater.
>>
>>223488017
“Staring into the void so long you become it” is the oldest prestige moral in the book. Applied here it means the man who won’t stop hunting evil is the monster. That sentence is catnip for anyone who needs the hunter contaminated. A whipped cream gag doesn’t cancel it. A speech about Western towns doesn’t cancel it. Those are the two respectable exits. The smear is what happens in between, when the only person allowed to look certain is the rabbi asking who gave Hansen the right.
