Is there any real world benefit to the individual, that isn't circular reasoning, in expending time to parse obscurity in media?Think about Southland Tales, in 100 years. To satisfactorily understand the movie i assume one would need auxiliary information about the culture of the time. Or to make multiple theories, of which many are probably possible.I think we need to bring the word "pretentious" back and use it as its definition describes. I.e. to form a category so they can easily be filtered.

Donnie Darko is good and I would be happy to have been a part of something that good, but you couldn't pay me enough to be Richard Kelly. I would lose years of my life and even with all the money in the world I would never be able to do anything good ever again and I would have to live with the crushing depression that comes from being a once in a generation case of right place right time lightning in a bottle lucky guy syndrome incapable of not fucking up everything I touched afterwards. I would also come across as a complete tool in all my interviews.
