Watched Resident Evil: Welcome To Raccoon City
I guess this is about as close to a faithful adaptation as we're ever going to get. Had elements from RE1, 2 and even Code Veronica. Good cast except for some obvious ones like Jill and Leon for "reasons" I guess. Didn't like that they tried to make Wesker a somewhat sympathetic character and Leon an absolute imbecile. Very good movie though. Will watch the new Res Evil movie whenever it hits streaming but I'm not expecting much after seeing this one.

Its a fine line. Sometimes fan films don't know when to show restraint. I have the same issue with Filino's recent Star Wars stuff, where it sorta feels like a kid playing with toys rather than making something competent or compelling while still being accurate/respectful to the material. I think had the director/writer shown more restraint he could have just given us a very good adaption of the first game instead of mashing together bits of multiple and sorta losing the impact of each as a result. But again, I need to rewatch it.

The way I described it when I watched it was "it's like if you typed "make a Resident Evil movie" as a prompt into an AI video software. Kind of mashes a lot of things together, isn't accurate to the story/characters but does try to include them, CGI sets that look similar enough to the games' settings but clearly not real, etc
