Ive been seeing Harry Potter shilled here, should I finally watch it? Or has it aged like old milk
>>
Read the books they’re better
>>
The first two movies are simple yet charming children's movies with nice music and great production value outside of some poorly aged CGI. The third movie adds some darkness and intrigue without sacrificing too much of the humor and charm of the series, it seems like the series will only get better from here. The fourth film is mostly retarded garbage that bounces wildly in tone from overwrought humor to heavy-handed melodrama. The rest of them are an indiscernable gruel of angst and soot that blend in with one another aside from a good villain in the fifth one.
>>
>>223532936
The first few still feel like timeless classics, but the later ones kinda fell victim to the "early 2010's teenage angst" trend
>>
>>223533067
Its funny how true this is, I saw 5 6 7 part 1 and 2 in theaters yet i couldnt really tell you anything about them at all
>>
>>223533067
Yeah, I can only stand rewatching 1-3. Goblet of Fire is still fun in some ways but the tone makes a dramatic shift and from there on out it becomes just another YA snoozefest.
>>
>>223533144
>Goblet of Fire
Watching the broom closet scene with Rita as a teenager made me feel funny
>>
>>223532936
First two are timeless children kino
After that they get increasingly worse with 3 having at least good direction and 4 getting into so bad it's good territory
>>
>>223532936
The first 3 are decent imo. Rest not worth bothering with

>>223532936
Just wait for the new series, I'm sure they fixed all the problematic elements for the modern audience such as yourself.
>>
>>223534611
People exaggerate or lie for effect. OP probably saw 2-3 posts talking fondly about the movies and thought it would be funny to call that shilling.
>>
>>223532936
You're better off just waiting for the TV show, the movies are obsolete now.

For the anons who asked last thread , this is the rough draft of a scene in Summer Y4 in my FemDracoxOC fic:

Luke shifted his book against his knees. Aurelia sat beside him beneath her bedroom window, her shoulder against his. Her unopened magazine provided some credibility to their claim of reading together.
She turned his hand over.
“I need that.” he said
“For?”
“Reading.”

Luke glanced down at her bowed head and watched the wave of pale blonde hair slip over her shoulder.

She caught him looking.

“What?” she said with a grin.
“Nothing.”
He returned to the page, and her thumb moved across the knuckles of his captured hand.
Half a sentence later, she did it again.
“Enjoying it?” she asked.
“Very informative.”
“What have you learnt?”
His eyes flicked down. She laughed.
“Cheater"

He turned and kissed her cheek. Her fingers tightened around his as she looked up at him and her eyelids lowered, “You really think that’ll do?”
He put the book aside with a sigh. She watched with intolerable smugness, knowing she had won.
“Your carefully planned summer studies.” she said
“You almost sound concerned.”
Luke kissed her and she met him halfway, then settled onto his lap, her arms around his shoulders.
“You’ve abandoned your education,” she said breathlessly, “Granger will be so disappointed.”
“She’ll understand.”
“No, she won’t.”
“No. Probably not.” As he drew her closer and kissed her again.

Shortly afterwards, her bedroom door opened.

Cassia stood frozen in the doorway and just stared at her sister on Luke’s lap, his arms around her waist.
Her nose wrinkled with disgust.
“No.”
Aurelia leaned back but remained where she was.
“Do you not know how to knock?”
“Mother’s looking for you.”
“What does she want?”
Cassia looked at Luke again. He smiled back at her.
“Mother!”
“Cassia.” Aurelia snapped.
That settled it.
“MOTHER!”

I've never read the books, and watched the movies for the first time during covid when I was already 30. The first 2 movie are fantastic even as an adult, so I understand why kids loved it. The 3rd movie is decent, but the rest are utter dogshit.

I didn’t even think about that but the Quidditch matches would make for even more drama and kino especially when Harry wins and Malfoid is all bitter and defeated

Same with the female Draco shit.
>>

"Malfoid" is just normies and zoomer artists discovering tsundere just like Obsession made them discover yandere.
>>
Rowling probably won't address the trend but she has to know about it by now right
>>
>Rowling probably won't address the trend but she has to know about it by now right

>>223536066
Let's think about it rationally for a second. Male bullies IRL
>assault you physically
>call you a fag at every opportunity
>are low IQ and usually bullied/molested by their family
Meanwhile, the Malfoid
>calls Harry names
>goes to insane lengths to ruin his reputation behind everyone's back
>has Harry on their mind nonstop (see book 2)
>avoids physical confrontation at all costs, even having man-ape bodyguards at all times, but when violently confronted, actually fucking cries in front of everyone
Yeah, I'm thinking "Draco'' had a little surprise under ''his'' robes all along.

Malfoid would be the one thing both trannies and Rowling would hate.
Remember that Malfoy is based on a girl that used to bully Rowling when she was a kid, so Malfoid is basically people waifuing her bully.

I'm late to the party on the Malfoid stuff. Is this supposed to be an alternate scenario where Malfoy was born female, or is this Malfoy after some kind of spell/potion shenanigans?
>>
>>223536262
NTA but he's right. Pretty much every school-aged Slytherin in the books is based off a kid that used to bully Rowling in her youth, including Malfoy. It's also the reason why Slytherin is so irredeemably evil and always get their shit kicked in in anything written by Rowling.

Imagine the Yule ball scene with Malfoid
>Ron anxiously keeps harassing Harry about their dates
>On their way out of the Great Hall, Harry sees Malfoid going into the dungeons
>candle_lit.png
>Harry approaches Malfoid, she immediately puts her guard up
>Harry asks her out, plain and simple, adding ''clearly you haven't accepted anyone else... if anyone asked you out that is!"
>Malfoid is flustered, ends up promising an answer by owl the next morning
>Harry and Ron banter about it on their way to lunch and forget about the ordeal
>next morning early on, Harry goes on to send another package to Sirius, sees Malfoid fidgeting around an expensive-looking owl
>he teases her if it's his invitation
>she finally relents and accepts the invitation
>skip to the ball, Malfoid is dressed to the nines, Harry (smugly) showing off her to the crowd
>Hermione and Krum descend
>in comparison to dolled up Malfoid, dolled-up Hermione utterly titmogs her
>Malfoid refuses to admit defeat, forcefully following Harry and Ron around until they hear Hagrids confession to Madame Maxime
Will Malfoid spill the bans to Rita Skeeter? Will she treasure this moment forever? Will they ever marry? Tune in to Harry Potter's Hogsmade Alley next week!

I've never been super involved with the Harry Potter fandom so I don't know if this is a common sentiment, but what's with everyone in this thread saying 4 is so bad? I didn't think much of it when I saw it as a kid, basically felt like a continuation of where 3 took it. 5 is where I really noticed the shift and didn't bother seeing the rest of the movies until years after they came out.

>>223536916
It's probably not the exact same one, but you can't tell the difference anyway.
>>
The books (and by extension films) were a victim of their own popularity. In the first two novels you can see that this world wasn't supposed to be taken seriously. It was something in the same vein as Charlie and the Chocolate Factory or Matilda. And the first three books kind of reflect that in their tone and how neatly things are wrapped up at the end of each book. But as soon as Rowling realized how popular she was with adults, she began writing the material darker and darker until eventually you start asking questions like damn, why does this ginger retard need money when he literally has magic? Or why do the Death Eaters respect or fear Voldemort when literally killing someone is a matter of pointing a stick at them and saying two words? For this reason, the best of the books and films is found in the first three entries, and everything after that basically goes downhill.
>>

No the movies are pretty shit. If you like garbage like the MCU or even The Hunger Games movies(the jlaw ones) then you'll enjoy them, but otherwise you're better off watching something else.
>>223537008
It's genuinely just baby brain stuff. If you watch the behind the scenes material you'll see that Rowling wasn't happy with the first 2 and was just "its fine" with 3 as they're not british enough. Newell and Yates were the studios finally listening to her(british directors for brit films) and what she prefers the series to be more like.

Speaking of HP, anyone feels the whole story is fantasy through the lens of a busybody? Everything Harry lears about whats happening in the story is through gossiping, he never discovers anything on his own, is always somebody else and then someone tells him about what happens, or he recieves a letter or something like that.

I find it funny that Malfoid is finding success on both /tv/ AND /pol/.
>>
>>223533067

I read the first book and the second book and I saw the first movie and I think maybe the second movie. I liked them a lot. I tried to get through the Cauldron book, but lost interest and all the characters were aging up too hard in the movies so it looked strange, so I didn't bother watching more those either

I don't really have any attachment to any of it, but I can see why some would. Way better than watching some Minions movie
>>
>>223540056
Only because the marketing team from WB(who has done this before with Joker btw) tricked people into believing it's some left vs right thing.
Keep in mind though that /pol/ instantly sniffed out Crystal Cafe roasties trying to push Rowling as "based" which is why your friends only try it on other boards now
>>
>>223536815

>>
>>223533067
Tired of this retarded take. The first two are objectively the worst. There are zero stakes, nothing of note happens, the acting/CGI are legitimately woeful and the tone is saccharine. Basically specifically designed to be a heckin wholesome movie played as background noise on Christmas.

The later movies have moments like Dumbledore vs Voldemort, the wacky psychological scenes where Harry is resisting his mind being infiltrated, the Snape reveal, you know actual cool shit and not just le heckin chocolate frog came to life aren't these child actors so heckin cute and whimsical XDD

Gruel and angst aren't the problem with those movies, it's really because they're part of the dullest franchise in the history of movie franchises. Seriously, each episode following the boy wizard and his pals from Hogwarts Academy as they fight assorted villains has been indistinguishable from the others. Aside from the gloomy imagery, the series’ only consistency has been its lack of excitement and ineffective use of special effects, all to make magic unmagical, to make action seem inert. Perhaps the die was cast when Rowling vetoed the idea of Spielberg directing the series; she made sure the series would never be mistaken for a work of art that meant anything to anybody?just ridiculously profitable cross-promotion for her books. The Harry Potter series might be anti-Christian (or not), but it’s certainly the anti-James Bond series in its refusal of wonder, beauty and excitement. No one wants to face that fact. Now, thankfully, they no longer have to.

>a-at least the books were good though

"No!"

The writing is dreadful; the book was terrible. As I read, I noticed that every time a character went for a walk, the author wrote instead that the character "stretched his legs."

I began marking on the back of an envelope every time that phrase was repeated. I stopped only after I had marked the envelope several dozen times. I was incredulous. Rowling's mind is so governed by cliches and dead metaphors that she has no other style of writing. Later I read a lavish, loving review of Harry Potter by the same Stephen King. He wrote something to the effect of, "If these kids are reading Harry Potter at 11 or 12, then when they get older they will go on to read Stephen King." And he was quite right. He was not being ironic. When you read "Harry Potter" you are, in fact, trained to read Stephen King.

It's fine, the first 2 movies have a lot of whimsy, and can be watched around Christmas. Just put yourself in the mindset of being 10 again and enjoy the kiddyslop. 3 is legit pretty great, and the rest vary in quality greatly.
In terms of just entertainment and spectacle, however, they're all fine. If you want a ride, their all good rollercoasters.

I can see why both /tv/ and /pol/ would find such a concept alluring. I mean, being chased after relentlessly by an alpha female, is like the ultimate male wish fulfillment. That or imagining yourself as a young boy and having some gorgeous older woman preying on you
