The only people who hate this movie are faggot libshits, so I think we have to concede that it is based
What is going on with this fucking movie? Why do people hate it so much, I don’t get it? The trailer looks good to me, kinda Dr. Strangelove vibes, haven’t seen it yet though.

>>223551468It's a if you like satire movies you are dumb and you caused the world to end. Fuck Whitey movie
>>223551468>suspcision it'd just be a Trump allagory so I didn't bother watching itIt is a Trump/Bush allegory but it's later reframed as making fun of libshit political satire if that makes sense. Can't explain how without spoiling the twist. It basically shits on movies like "Don't Look Up" for being controlled opposition made by rich elites to feel better about themselves.
Armond White hated it though. He wasn't wearing his contrarian hat this time—he was wearing his actual film critic hat and he eviscerated it.

>>223551088it looks gay and i wont be watching so i spoiled it for myself and have a question for anons who watched this>The United States and Rockwell United are summoned before the European Parliament, with Vice President Eddie standing in for Compsonwhy would they go? doesnt the US have literal foreign policies against stuff like this? it really just seems like a >haha fuck you for being white and americanmovie

It's not making fun of anyone, really, it's ultimately just a very human story. You could say it's highly critical of humanity, but it's not making fun of humanity, it's trying to understand humanity in broad strokes.

They're going out swinging and this movie is definitely gonna be a cult classic. It might be a flop but at least their last movie isn't some bland capeshit like Supergirl or something.

This movie is already a cult classic for me. First, there's no way it deserves the harsh reviews it got. It's at its core a well-made film. I can assure you that the twist is the reason people hate it. Digger pretty much tells us we're cattle. Our masters give us enough to feel satisfied in our hate of them, then we return working, paying taxes and spreading our ass cheeks with our fingersA huge satire to slop like Don't Look Up or all these others "fuck the rich" financed by rich billionaires"yea fuck the rich, save our planet, fuck white people, good serf, now go back to work and shut the fuck up"The ending with Jesse Plemons' character saving Curtis' daughter and minutes later we discover the state of our world is again a testament to that. He passes for the hero just enough to make the people forget he’s part of the problem in the first placeIt's a big fuck you to the system, to the journalists and other fake influencers and they know it, hence the reviews
>>223551328>>223551353>>223551464>>223551419Shut up fags.
>>223551088I think the fact that no one knew what the fuck this movie was going to be about is why it failed. If they had explained/presented it better in their marketing it probably would have done better. Of course they might have known their movie was shit so they purposely showed as little as possible
>>223553875yummy yummy slopulist slop yummy mmmm tastes good i love slopulism down with the billionaires! eat the rich! haha sloppy slop
>>223551311Correct
>this will sell our movie
>>223554454people keep saying this but I really don't get what was so confusing about the trailer? the basic premise seemed clear enough to me when I first saw it: rich guy causes ecological disaster and is forced to do damage control in an artsy Strangelove-esque satire. they obviously didn't want to reveal the meta angle, but I thought that was a fine pitch. the other criticism that I tend to agree with more is that the movie looked like a second Don't Look Up which put a lot of people off. people are wary of super on-the-nose political messaging. of course it's a send up of that kind of movie, but how were you supposed to know that without giving too much away. it also just looked a little grotesque. Tom Cruise in that makeup, the cat, the grey filter. I actually liked the trailer and saw the movie based on it but I can see why it would be off putting.
>>223551222It doesn't make fun of anyone. It uses stereotypical archetypes to tell the story of how we as a species have fucked ourselves over the last 50 years, and uses humor to deliver the message, because no one would listen if it was delivered with a straight face.
>>223551694>why would they go?To control/spin the narrative.
>>223551088This is visibly a lib movie with character acting from 2007
>>223551302It's not a "culture war"...it's a long overdue backlash.
I have a feeling that if you liked Eddington, you will like this movie. Any opinions on this?
>>223552668WB wanted auteur directors after losing Nolan and overpaid for this, PTA's and Bong Joon-Ho's movies.
>>223554739It's just because the trailers are overly quirky and make the story look one-note. Partly because they're forced to edit around the play-within-a-movie twist, but also because people will never accept that marketing is handled by people who don't make the movie, designed to get people interested that normally would not watch something even if it mischaracterizBLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH
>>223554990i liked Eddington and got filtered by this
>>223551245It's an explicitly political movie that has political themes and a political message and you want people to stop discussing the political themes of it? This isn't like people trying to draw culture war shit out of a minions movie.
>>223555079>It's an explicitly political movie that has political themes and a political messageJesus fuck, you either didn't watch the movie, or lack comprehension skills. The point isn't the politics. Fucking Jessie spelt it out at the very end. The point is to use art to remember a horrifying series of events that lead to modern day miseries.
>>223555116That's political. You're dumb and shallow.
>>223551139>>223551222The reason libtards hate it is because a key part of the movie is analyzing how people being bloodthirsty and dehumanizing of anyone that makes up their political/social opposition just plays into the hands of the forces they're supposedly against and makes life shit for everybody. Because it uses Trump/oil tycoon and otherwise generally conservative analogues to demonstrate this, even though it does critique those figures heavily as well (obviously), it also critiques how functionally useless and hypocritical typical liberals are in how they try to "stand up" against them and act like they're morally upstanding people on the right side of history.I liked it. It felt like a meta satirical take from a left leaning perspective on the past 10 years of media having hysterical meltdowns over the right wing in the west which was interesting.
>>223555482yeah but the movie was shit
>>223551088Has it occurred to you that the movie is just bad?
>>223551088>muh oil guyI see left-wing green panic film makers still haven't been able to figure out how to critique the Musk boogeyman properly in a film yet since he's anti-oil and ostensibly environmentalist. It'd be funny to watch them try to tackle that. The movie feels like it wants to be contemporary but also use tropes and political realities that have been irrelevant for decades. Not sure what it was intending to do by mixing them up
>>223555595what makes you think it's supposed to be a Musk parody? you think that Musk is the only rich guy? >political realities that have been irrelevant for decadesfossil fuel emissions are higher than ever. the entire globe is panicking because of the Hormuz situation affecting oil supplies. oil is still very, very relevant.
>>223555595Billionaires fucking over the world was a thing long before Musk. And one of the movies points was that decisions to not take action in the past are leading to problems in the present.
>>223555679>>223555708I'm saying the fact that it's not a Musk parody in the first place is odd because it seems to want to satirize current era Drumpf political grievances as well as how liberals react and attempt to respond to these things with little more than gay nihilistic whining. The entire character of Digger feels like a tycoon magnate villain from the 70s which takes away from what it's goals seem to be.
I'm not watching it because it's utterly drab and colourless and I'm fucking sick of spending hours of my time looking at things that are ugly.
>>223555679The caricature of an eccentric, elite tycoon with a southern accent is no longer relevant
>>223551088Wouldn't that be the exact group Tom Cruse exists to make movies for?
>>223551088Its literally about climate disaster and the oil industry
>>223555742people are capable of being critical of more than one thing at a time. the movie is satirizing the left's whining, while also being critical of billionaires. all billionaires deserve criticism, not just Musk. people like Digger still very much exist. corrupt politicians existed before Trump, and will exist after him. I don't even think it's necessarily a satire of Trump era politics in particular. it has tints of that, because of course it does, it's affected by the current political climate. but it's sort of a timeless criticism of capitalism and politics, with a few tweaks you could make this fit almost any era of the last century or so, and that's what makes it work imo.
Just saw it and it was pretty good. The while thing being a play blew me away leave to a fellow Mexican to show you puto gringos how to make real cinema
>>223556077That's cool and all, but where were the jokes? This shit was like watching paint dry
>>223555920maybe, maybe not, but it fits the vibe of the movie imo. the whole thing is extremely theatrical, everything movie-like is cranked up to 11, an eccentric Hollywood stereotype fits that very well
>>223556115Holy fuck your stupid if you weren't constantly giggling, pendejo
>>223551185A Mexican and Cruise doing post-post irony still sounds retarded.
>>223555742>it seems to want to satirize current era Drumpf political grievances as well as how liberals react and attempt to respond to these things with little more than gay nihilistic whining.History tends to repeat itself. Trump is only the most recent example, but these cycles of conservative's in charges, and libs not shutting the fuck up are cyclical in nature. I don't believe Trump was ever a target, but I'm sure like you many are going to assume he was.
>>223551311Extremists on both sides are bad
Themes, messages, politics aside - the movie just isn't very interesting. It's not funny, it completely lacks emotion, it's sloppily assembled in a way that's more awkward than entertaining. I simply didn't care about anything happening because every scene felt like a complete mess of empty dialogue and poor attempts at humour or profundity. It has no rhythm, no drive, no sense of composition. I know this board hates Birdman but that's an example of something being chaotic yet still cogent, unlike Digger which is just a mishmash of ideas where none of them stick

just watched it in the cinema tonight. Hardly anyone was in there, a group of two girls, and maybe 4 separate guys watching it alone. Even so, it got some good laughs (shovel on the floor, vets prognosis of the cat, freezer scene,).I dont know if it was just my cinema, but the scene where Rockwell is addressing the european politicians was INCREDIBLY loud to almost an uncomfortable degree. I was having a hard time understanding what people were saying at times due to the accents, multiple characters talking at once, and the sound mixing of background noise. In the scene on the rig for example, I barely understood anything anyone was talking about before we they go down into the kitchen.Twist reveal was good, VERY surreal in the moment until you realise what it is youre looking at. I heard the rumors it was a musical but i deliberately stopped looking at anything about the movie until watching it myself. Im glad about that.I enjoyed it, I think its worth watching.

It was pretty incredible. As a climate denier, I was having a good time laughing at climate deniers. It helps when you understand that the political stuff is a layer deeper since it's being said through the context of a stupid Broadway play named "Fossil Fools" with a gay bitch director. I'm seeing it again next week. Unfortunately yes, looks like another Eddington situation where great performances, solid script, and intriguing story are disregarded by critics and the film ends up being a bomb with no awards recognition. I actually started to wonder during the film if the problem is just that there are no young well regarded film critics anymore. I don't think the older ones really understand culture anymore, they're stuck in 2000s stuff and praise shit like Green Book or whateverOne complaint, if anyone is going to see it again, the ADR/dubbing is pretty bad
It's based-leaning.

The stage play in the movie is a standin for something like the Today Show, going "Look at that stupid Drumpf" while the audience laughs. Meanwhile Drumpf goes and kills 1000 brownoid babies or something. It's a leftist critique of leftism and their slactivism that achieves nothing and just validates evil right wingers and their actions.

>>223560019>In the history of the movie world, one oil tycoon's drilling efforts push the world over the tipping point and create a cataclysm that kills thousands, displaces millions across the world, and fucks over the world's environment such that there are frequent natural disasters, rampant rolling blackouts, and you occasionally have to wear a mask to survive the air outside.>years later, the events around that event were satirized in a now famous play.>the movie shows the making of a 25th anniversary version of the play, funded by the grandson of the man who caused the incident. The main actor struggles to get into character because he cannot determine if Digger was an unrepentant asshole, or just a guy trying to make the best of a shit situation.
>>223560139It went by so quickly and due to the sound mixing i had trouble making it out, but doesnt cruise actually say that digger was bulgarian or something during his tantrum after the nuke scene?
>>223560188he refers to him as, among other things, as vulgar, and uncouth. As ungentlemanly as he gets, but utterly terrifying in how calm, focused, and determined he seemed to have been.
>>223560359ah yeah, must've been "vulgar and" then. I dont know why but i had a real tough time making out some of the dialogue in this at my cinema. It wouldve been funny if he wasnt actually fully american, but the play finds it more convenient to ignore that and play up the american / southern angle.
>>223551237Iran detected
>>223559467>As a climate denierwhy would you so openly admit to being an idiot
>>223552986It also ripped off minority report with the touch interface
I hate this movie so much that i think i might actually secretly like it
>>223555116>Everyone wear your Covid mask because the dumb billionaires fucked the environment >Not political
>>223555116It's an explicitly political message retard. It's "hey your stupid movie that makes people look silly doesn't change the fact that they did these things and people feel the effects"
Why the fuck would anyone pay to watch this shit? It's clearly just another trump bad climate change bad capitalism bad piece of trash designed to get people to argue about it instead of proposing any real solutions
>>223560646In this instance, covid mask is a false equivalency. In the movie there is so much methane in the air that during certain periods you will literally choke to death on fart gas without those masks.
>>223560679>"hey your stupid movie that makes people look silly doesn't change the fact that they did these things and people feel the effects"why is it political to hold people accountable for their literal objective fuck ups?
>>223560750Again you're retarded so I'll point you to a guy who gets it>>223552332
All i got from it is if you watch movies you are a dumb goy so i shan't be watching anymore
>>223560759You literally highlighted a post about it being satire. What makes it political? Because you feel like you are the one being made fun of?
When i saw that pathetic "conformity is freedom" message i literally walked out of the theatre
>>223560811Because the movie was over, or you didn't like that message?
>>223551088This still suspiciously looks like another goyim bad/white people hate movie masquerading as liberalism.
>>223554990I liked Digger, but way less than Eddington.
The black director was cute
>>223557803Sets and audio design were the best part of the film. Opening scene and bird audio were very nice
>>223551222It's both sides are equally bad (the correct take) which makes both of them seethe like crazy
>>223560840movie?
merits of the story aside, does Tom deserve the Oscar?
>>223561003He deserves a tony
>>223560784You don't understand what "political" means because you're absorbed by internet arguments
>>223561029explain it to me then
>>223561003In a better written movie, maybe.
>>223551245the americans love their bread and circus, hence the goiball and the fake culture war bullshit
>>223551088>>223551222>>223551311It's making fun of Americans who turn everything into a game of sportsball while the world burns, you retards.
>>223559337Yes, you dumb cunt
>>223551088But I loved it, so did my parents, and we're blue voters.
>>223562093Yeah, but you're not a paid (by globo) critic.
People don't hate the movie, they hate facing the truth in the mirror. We're living in a Digger timeline right now.
>>223556982You get it
>>223551328hey look, another weirdo living in a perpetual echo chamber aka bluesky that doesn't like counter arguments to their smooth brain doctrine. pathetic.
>>223556982>It's not funnyIt was hysterical. There was a moment where a fan fell off the wall, and then the very next thing a coffee machine shit all over someone getting a cuppa; quite literally THE SHIT HAS HIT THE FAN. How is that not amusing?
People that were surprised by it being a stage production need to watch more theatre. Pretty obvious if you know anything about it. That first room was a clear stage setup with impossible doors with a fake background
>>223562344Which is another meta layer making fun of us perhaps that we don’t even take the time to notice this about our fiction and our reality
good characters but the story is a bit much. Idk maybe it needs to be watched a few times to get it.
>>223552668Warner is now entirely owned by a family of Zionist billionaires.
>>223552652>>223552671Ask who defines the middle. Who gets to have that privelage and why? Is the middle good for us and our civilization and what even is good?
>>223562365Yea especially with the trailer and marketing leading people on
>ITT I dun wanna watch movie if it ain't aligned to muh teamDumbasses. Watch a movie on its own merits. You can hate the politics but still be entertained or God forbid, be intellectually engaged. At the very least frame it as """'OSINT""" of the enemy team.
>>223562457Everyone. When biden was in and those red states bad weather emergencies, biden had funded them anyways despite them voting against him. They were still Americans, after all. Trump is actively cutting off support to states he feels "opposed" him.
>>223551222Of course not, but that's the narrative we're trying to build here.
I'm a Regio (from Monterrey) Liberal and I loved it, just watched it actually and I think it's a great return to form for Iñarritu after that Bardo thing. It's basically Dr. Strangelove + Don't Look Up + Birdman.Birdman is one of my faves after all.
>>223551311being black apologist and pro-lgbt is objectively bad
>>223563527Yeah but the alternative is be right-wing and thats actively collapsing america in real time
>>223555831Oh. My. God.Forced use of neon colors against a dark foreground?Wide landscape shots with dark silhouettes every five minutes? And it's Japanese?Holy FUCK
>>223551088this was the best scene of the whole movie. Not a single word said that wasn't true
>>223563580no the alternative was bernie or andrew yang
>>223557436Stalin is leagues above this pretentious slop and birdman come on
>>223563116Are you joking? In Florida they explicitly passed over hurricane aid to houses with Trump signs and they didn't do anything to help in North Carolina until Biden was out of the White House. Of course nobody remembers this now but it was absolutely inexcusable behavior from the federal government.
>>223558475>Reconnaissance
>>223563580America was gonna collapse either way. The whole world is gonna continue collapsing until a new World War happens and the global economy resets
>>223563626>fascist has to make stuff up to defend his evil worldview I deserve heathcare
This movie seems to be to political movies what Funny Games was for horror movies. Is that an accurate comparison? I haven't seen it yet
>>223551139We have to pretend to like garbage to own our imagined enemies.
>>223552424>DIGGER DIGGER DIGGER DIGGER DIGGER DIGGER DIGGER>I'M ONE HUNDRED PERCENT DIGGER
>>223564193No because Funny Games is actually good
>>223551139Both sides have interpreters the movie to be sympathetic to them and hostile towards the other side whereas the truth lies on both sides uncleanly. This brothers lost people now because everything had to be catered to their own world view or be banished out of their lives forever. Not some centrist ideal of 'both sides bad', but rather a honest take on where things stand. That bothers people who want to win or rather be perceived as winning.
>>223551222your brain is rotten from youtube righty lefty sloppa
>>223551088Why do people discuss movies when there's no torrent yet?
>I'm so smart there is no difference between left and rightDamn... never though of it that way.
Yesss liberaals got btfo by the based crises) cruses
>>223551088It just wasn't very good. Once it's revealed that the whole thing is a play I stopped caring about the whole plotline. The side story with the daughter was interesting at first, but it ends up going nowhere. It's a shame, I wanted it to be good. Also, the end reveal with the masks was lame.
>>223562156Who cares if we ruin the environment? The planet is just gonna get cataclysmically reset again sometime soon.
>>223551222the movie is making fun of everyone who didn't read DianeticsScientology could've defended us against what is being mocked in this film
>>223566056there isn't actually a big red button it's 3 books you have to read
>>223566122What books?
>>223563668everything he said is true. you are just low information cattle. you deserve no care, leech.
>>223563116>Trump is actively cutting off support to states he feels "opposed" him.And this is bad, why? States' rights have been a meme since the civil war. The federal government isn't responsible for maintaining the status quo for adversarial and corrupted state governments. Citizens who don't want to be affected will relocate to jurisdictions that are not controlled by adversarial or corrupted government entities.>inb4 but both sides will keep doing this until all state governments are rendered useless>inb4 who decides what corrupted meansThe federal government decides. The dorky confederate legal spergs warned you about this and you called them heckin racist so you wouldn't have to humor their arguments.
