What's the worst TV remote you've ever owned?
>>
>>223559687
Wiiu gamepads remote function because I couldn't get it to work
>>
If a service with its own TV remote button shuts down, they don't really let you rebind the button to another function so you now have a button that can't do anything.
>>

Just get an Apple TV no ads simple remote everything just werks
>>
>>223559727
>Wii U
Why would they just discard the entire gimmick of the Wii?
>>
>>223559796
They didn't, wii remotes still worked with it. the wii u's horrific marketing is the main reason it bombed, no one knew what it even was
>>
>>223559765
Looking up the features on this, maybe I'll get one. Amazon has been pissing me off with the constant shilling for absolute garbage.
>>

>>
>>223559909
I like mine. I have jellyfin on it.
>>
>>223560502
Based, that was the next thing I was going to lookup. If it didn't have Jellyfin then it was a no-go. Is there any reason to get the 128gb model or can I just go with the basic and forget about it? I have no idea why it would need so much storage unless you can keep things offline on it.
>>
>>223560527
I sprung for the 4K one with ethernet port. The storage doesn't matter to me but I don't want to be cucked by wifi.
>>
>>223560597
The basic doesn't have 4K? Kind of a rip at that price, guess I'll just go with the 128gb then.
>>
>>223559687
Vizio. Remote sucks.
>>
>>223560608
I think there used to be non-4k versions but I just looked it up and the only difference seems to be wifi only vs. wifi+ethernet. The price difference is not that big and I think the ethernet is worth it (if you're going to use it wired.)
>>
>>223560671
I'm not sure, I've been fine using Wifi on everything else and running a cable from my router to my TV seems like a pain in the ass for not much gain. I'd probably get the better one if it had other cool shit included but it doesn't seem like it.
>>
>>223560666
They would probably complain it wasn't gay or woke enough

Nasheed really needs his own channel like the History Channel or something, where it's just his own shows and productions just running all day every day.

The Apple TV remote is THE worst remote ever invented. OP posted the 2nd worst. You are taking on TimCooks AIDS pill fund by using this shite. Both of you will be butt fucking soon.
>>
>>223560936
Hard to imagine anything being worse than an Amazon remote or just how awful current TV remotes are.
>>
>>223560949
To quote Brendan Schaub, you'd be surprised. Currently on a Fire Cube, had both generations of Apple TVs and their remotes. They are the fucking worst, hands down.
>>
>>223559687
My current one with button for Netflix, Disney, Hulu and something called Rakuten. Needless to say I am not, nor have I ever been subscribed to any of these services.

Probably a bad quote since it was pretty unsurprising that he sucked.

>>
>>223561039
>>223561073
Out of the box it will randomly shift entire pages left and right, you'll never select what you want. So you change it to remove that effect and just be a regular input remote. Now you'll still never click what you want, it just won't scroll entire rows with a single press. Oh hey do you like gestures? Well, you're in luck, because there's only 4 buttons on the thing you'll love double and clicking to do things like see your recent apps. Oh shit did you mean to triple click? Well one of those clicks was registered as down.
Literal faggot tier garbage.

Modern remotes are legitimate slop. I bought a commercial signage display (that's what actual TVs are marketed as now), and it came with this.

>>
>>223563086
Yes. The only way to get a screen that actually works correctly these days is to get signage. You can't even buy monitors, because the jews that make those make them all far too small to save on shipping costs.

My signage panel is so good that it's fucking RGB, which no longer exists in the consumer screen space, literally every single TV I looked at with similar specs back then was BGR.

idk about other devices, including the tv one, but 15in macbook air is the best laptop i've ever owned
>>
>>223563959
I was thinking about a Macbook Pro but the RAM chip hike pushed it beyond being reasonable anymore. I even bought an SSD in 2023 and the price for that exact same model today is 6x what I paid for it, it's absolute bullshit.

>>
>>223563982
i used several pros for work. they're good machines but for my personal use not worth the extra money. the last couple years of airs are almost as good for much less money, and the size is more convenient. i had a 13in air and it was great in many ways but the 15in air is so luxurious. if mine broke right now, i'd buy another without a second thought.

>>
>has a Netflix button

>doesn't have an input button
>doesn't have a sleep button
I hate modern clickers.
>>
>>223559687
My mom has this LG TV that's fucking trash. Takes forever to turn on, when it does turn on it'll play from the input source for ~30 seconds then pop up a screen advertising their channels and giving you the option to select the source you were just playing from, you go back to what you were just watching, pop ups come on screen telling you to update apps, you just click ok so it won't bug you again, a couple minutes go by, another round of pop ups saying the apps failed to update, and through all this the remote has a pointer function with this quarter sized icon that just decides to randomly show up. The pointer recalibrates every time it pops up and it doesn't matter which way the remote is pointing when it does. You may be holding it on your lap and it'll pop up so when you point the remote at the screen the cursor will be all the way in the corner. Even if you want to to use the pointer function it's so busted you won't be able to. It's so sensitive that when it actually does work you'd think you have parkinsons with how much it bounces around. If you're navigating a menu and it turns on it changes whatever you have highlighted to what it's pointing at so it makes navigating the many menus a pain in the ass. There's no button on the remote to turn it off or recalibrate either so if you actually wanted to use it and it calibrated wrong you have to set it on the table and wait 30 seconds for the icon to disappear before trying again. Speaking of buttons all the buttons are in weird places, pause/play is by itself in a cluster of small buttons and other buttons have weird symbols for common features. It's completely retarded. It's older now but it's had these problems since she got it new. When she had me set it up for her I asked her ig she wanted to return it because it sucked so much ass. Then after all that you find out they've been spying on you the entire time you've had the tv.

all modern ones are dogshit. They are round and slippery so they fly out of your hand, you also can't lay them flat on a table and change channel with one finger. The front and back are also shaped exactly the same so you grab the remote and point at your tv only to realize you're pointing the wrong end at the tv.

fair. i'd expect an M4 or higher chip to handle it fine but you never know with adobe. my m3 handles all programming tasks, heavily modded minecraft, and an external ultrawide just fine, though it has choked on some games. i haven't used it for multimedia work.
>>
projectivy lets you rebind the buttons, Netflix button is now a jellyfin button :3
>>
>>223564637
Well I'll think about it then. How much RAM did you go with? I keep seeing people say 16gb isn't enough but 24gb is constantly sold out, so I feel like I don't have much choice.
>>
>>223559765
This works well but it's overengineered.
Give it to a boomer and they are going to be completely lost.

It's fine but I think a remote with buttons that have words writton on them to describe what it is they do is just better.
>>
>>223564688
Bro it has icons on the remote, what do you need? Large blocky text on each button? It's exactly the same as a Firestick but without the dedicated streaming buttons.

>>
>>223564653
i insisted on 24gb for myself, but when i bought it there was no shortage. i don't keep an eye on my ram so idk if i'm really using any of those additional 8gb.
>>
>>223564720
Depends on Apple AI and if you use that. I have an older Air with only 8GB and it goes into swap constantly even when I'm doing nothing because of the new OS and AI stuff. I feel like 16GB would be okay, but then I also think I'd end up with regret later by not going to 24GB, similar to how I regret just 8GB now (which was honestly fine for shit like web browsing, moving files around and some other tasks on the move since it's incredibly lightweight and thin).
>>
>>223564701
It's finicky and requires a bit of dexterity to use. Navigating the menus and changing the settings requires some experimentation.
It's over engineered pure and simple, like most apple crap.

My dad's VCR in the early 80s had a remote attached by a cable. There were maybe 5 buttons max, and they were HARD. I can still remember the thumb pain from holding rewind during a session of pause n toss watching the ass croc scene in Crocodile Dundee.

in 2005 my brother broke our remote control in a 6 year old fit of rage, my father refused to get a replacement and I spent the rest of my years at home getting up and manually switching each channel. So I'd say that was the worst remote I ever owned, albeit indirectly.

Something like this piece of shit. But I feel like the cord was thicker, like a fat crayon diameter. Possibly Zenith. Fuck that goddamn remote. I might still have it.

In the 80s or something? In the 90s I only ever saw children wear the calculator watches as a gimmick, in the same vein as the G-Shock. If your job demanded frequent use of a calculator, you'd just have a regular calculator on you because it's so much faster, plus the MEM function.

My father just received last month a remote control specifically for the cable package he got for sports (he doesn't do internet stuff). I could swear the remote is cursed, it never works more than five minutes, constantly asks to be recalibrated because it lost connection to the box, yet when the technician comes over it works perfect, even had him watch half a rugby game no problem. The next day it doesn't work anymore. It is evil.

Finally, a thread for my autism
Sky Q
>so rounded and smooth that it slips off all surfaces
>small size means you have to slide the remote up in your grip and stretch your thumb to hit the 0 button
>almost all buttons are the same shape and size, difficult to use without looking down
>the back button is the same shape as and right above the volume buttons, so it's too easy to exit a channel or show by pressing back
Why are ergonomics so bad these days? The old Sky controllers were God-tier

I live in the UK (pray for me), even if they implemented this law I'll be fine since I use an app on my phone - that has an IR blaster, to control my TV instead of a remote, I can usually find my phone.

You get used to it. When I first moved out, me & roommates had an old, color TV whose color would gradually fade out into B&W over the course of a movie. By the end, you realized you'd just watched Star Wars in B&W and never new it because it faded so gradually throughout the movie. Never even got my own color TV until y2k.

Its completely free, I watch movies while they are still in the cinema and I dont gets ads or stupid buttons or shit interface or people spying on me.

I own the one in the picture and I have taken it apart and sliced off those extra channel buttons because I keep accidentally hitting them when I want to mute stuff. So that one. Those remotes feature those companies because they pay for it. The BBC is another service that costs money, so now they want to use more funds to get a button on a remote? Do they think that will sell more bbc subs? Like isn't the real problem that it's simply become a shitty service?

And to answer OP, those Roku remotes because the button selection is so goddamn limited. I miss number buttons. I still watch antenna tv. The tv software (firmware?) is ass as well and makes me yearn for simple times, or at the very least, simpler tvs.

Something I'm not sure people outside of the UK always understand is that it's assumed everyone watches BBC programming, and you have to prove that you don't in order to not pay the license. They make this a very intimidating and bothersome process. This would all be solved by the BBC being an opt-in service you choose to pay for or are otherwise locked out from, but they don't want to 'solve' it because that's not the point. The idea is that everyone just pays the TV licence fee even if they never watch BBC programming ever, because of how exhausting it is to 'prove you don't', and because of the fear of accidentally seeing two seconds of BBC 3 as you flick through channels on your TV or follow a link to BBC iplayer by accident, and knowing this now means you are 'guilty'.

>Do they think that will sell more bbc subs?
As another anon mentioned. It's a way to get more people paying a TV licence by forcing manufacturers to include the iplayer app as standard, thereby rendering the TV capable of accessing BBC services and therefore liable for the licence fee.
