I don't get it

When they highlight a bunch of single out of context compliment words from reviewers. I always get the impression that they're very self-conscious about the quality of the material. There is an economy of space on an ad like that. They could have used that space to say anything about the movie which might have attracted me to it, but they chose to use that space to communicate nothing but vauge desparation instead.

It seems to me that there was some early data from the mid-2000s which said that people might be more likely to rent a DVD case at Blockbuster if it had good reviews printed in huge red ink in the front. I think the industry has just run with that and forgot its place and reason for being, and it's turned to a trope and a tradition In its own right, which is detached from the utility of the original act. I bet if the same market research were performed today, it would demonstrate decisively that this type of text has no positive effect on sales in 2026, but people don't really want to learn and change things, they want to feel that the things they know make them an expert and not just a process follower. Levitt directed this movie just so he can fuck prime Scarlo. That probably pissed off Weinstien and its why his career died after that

It's just not believable, both jgl as this guy and this guy never having slowed down and found what he actually likes after so many experiences.
It would be more fitting if he was a weirdo 40yo attractive shut in that managed to succeed after looksmaxxing and the rest of the movie was more or less the same.
He would have a reason to be terrified of going back to being alone, the score keeping shit would make more sense and him finally opening up and finding that he likes something specific like what they did with the old lady would also feel more real.
