Off course I wouldn't. I get what the movie wanted to show here but I don't think that people finding out who Superman was a few years earlier would have changed things much.

you forget it wasn't clark's first time exposing himself. the whole point is that the world still wasn't ready for him. shit, they weren't even ready for zodd, but at that point clark didn't have much of a choice.
>>
>>223568484
he didnt even need to "fight" the tornado, just snatch his dad and move him to safety.
>>
>>223568630
And why the world wasn't ready for him? When was it going to be ready exactly?

I could understand that it could have been more difficult for Clark to reveal himself at 15 than at 25 or 30. Did Jonathan thought that Clark could become evil or crazy if he revealed himself too young?
>>
>>223568684
>When was it going to be ready exactly?
realistically? never. that's also the underlying point and theme of the film. even with all the supposed ufo whistle-blowing we've had in the past 3 years people are still quick to denounce it as fraudulent and attention-seeking because they refuse to accept even the slightest notion that extraterrestrial beings may have made their way here or are currently floating above us.
>>
>>223568422
People focus on the end of the scene for how stupid it is, but the entire construction of the scenario is idiotic from the very beginning. It's mistakes and stupid decisions done over and over again to even create the 'choice' at the end of whether Clark should rush to save his adopted father. It makes no sense for Jonathan Kent to insist he be the one that goes to rescue the dog if they are going to do so, and if even his own life is worth sacrificing to keep Clark's secret (and there are plenty ways to get around that even if Clark goes to save him at the end) it would never ever be the slow old Jonathan sent to save the dog over Clark if the dog has to be saved.

Clark with his strength and speed wouldn't even have to run as fast as a old teenager/young adult of his fitness to get to the dog in time and release it easily, and there is no risk of him ever getting trapped. But on top of that, even if he was caught by the tornado, he always has the option of simply hiding out of sight and survive it.

It's a betrayal of the Superman character that he sacrifices a loved one for convenience and to benefit himself (even if its at the wish of Jonathan), and it's made worse by it only happening through the characters making decisions they would only make if to force that outcome. It puts an original sin onto Superman that diminishes the beacon of light and heroism the character is supposed to be, and it also makes Batman fucking right about him in the sequel which then makes that entire "Martha" moment meant to show Batman that Superman isn't an alien threat, but a moral human that can be trusted. Because a faulty selfish human cannot be trusted with the power to lord over and destroy the entire planet if he starts giving into their selfish impulses, if they decide certain sacrifices of others needs to be made for themselves. Which is what Clark is made to do here in this goddamn scene.
>>
>>223568724
Couldn't he cover his face with a t-shirt or something? Also, why doesn't he have some type of suit or at least a mask to cover his identity in case he has to save people? If he is able to save people but he has to let them die, is that a good thing to do?, is that good for him?
>>
>>223568670
He didn't even have to snatch the dad. Just walk over, leave the dad in the car, hold the car down so that it doesn't get taken by the tornado.
>>
>>223568724
people "refuse to accept" that because the evidence is dodgy or just outright blatantly fraudulent.
>>
>>223568841
>It puts an original sin onto Superman that diminishes the beacon of light and heroism the character is supposed to be
CONGRATULATIONS YOU FIGURED OUT THE PURPOSE OF THE FILM YOU FUCKING NIGGER
IT'S AN ORIGIN STORY, THE WHOLE POINT IS CLARK IS JUST AS HUMAN AS AS THE REST OF US DESPITE HAVING LITERAL GOD POWERS AND COMING FROM AN ALIEN PLANET
HE HAS TO LEARN TO WIELD THAT GIFT PROPERLY FOR MANKIND'S BENEFIT BUT STILL NEEDS TO KEEP HIS DISTANCE AND USE IT WHEN ONLY NECESSARY
IF ONE MAN'S SACRIFICE CAN KEEP HIS ALIEN SON SAFE THEN ANY REASONABLE FATHER WILL DO SO EVEN IF THEY KNOW THEY WON'T BE AROUND TO RAISE THEIR BASTARD LONGER (a low-key saving grace as he avoids having to use the old excuse of milk and cigarettes)
AND IN TIME HE WILL BECOME SAID BEACON OF LIGHT AND SHINING HOPE THAT WE ALL KNOW AND LOVE
THIS WAS ZACK'S PLAN ALL ALONG AND DC/WB WAS TOO RETARDED TO SEE THAT HE SET UP A MULTI-FILM ARC THAT WOULD END WITH US GETTING CLASSIC SUPERMAN
>>
>>223568950
It's not classic superman if he's a villain.
>>
>>223569025
>if he's a villain.
and now you're missing the point or being purposefully obtuse. pa kent's sacrifice is to demonstrate to clark that despite his abilities, he cannot and will not be able to save everyone, even at times those he loves the most. yeah we can sit here all day and say how 78 did it better with cancer but i could easily flip the script and say that clark should've used his x-ray vision to melt the cancer away and yadda yadda.
>>
snyder's superman narrative is about how clark is genetically programmed to be a hero, and his earth parents are villains standing in his way

I’m telling a Demi god who’s faster than the human eye can register not to use his super powers to save you. What a shitty stupid dad
>>
>>223568422
Why wouldnt he just run after him like at normal speed, grab him in the tornado then just lie like they had a miraculous encounter and landed in a hay field or some shit.
>>
>>223569140
But there's a difference between not being ABLE and not being WILLING to save someone. Especially when the not being WILLING comes from it just being inconvenient. Look, Superman's defining traits are hope, truth and justice. But this makes him defined by guilt. If he starts out baseline of "maybe I shouldn't save people" that removes the central question of the character of when he actually shouldn't or can't act. In what are the limits to hope, truth and justice and where they can go too far?

You know whose superhero defining trait is guilt? Spiderman.

And it has other effects on the character too. It means what characters like Lex sees in Superman, what Batman sees, is actually there in Superman, instead of being those characters own character flaws reflected back at them.
>>
You can tell Synder never watched a Superman movie or comic or show
>>
>>223568422
So Clark wont save his father, but he will save the guys on the oil rig that is on fire?? The logic in this movie is retarded.
>>
>>223569311
holy shit watch the movie instead of parroting reddit posts lmao

at no point is clark not willing to use his powers, he is repeatedly told not to until the time is right. even in the moment of the tornado he's ready to rush in and save his old man but jon being the human authority here (they literally had an argument about this whole situation right before the tornado showed up and the last thing clark says to jon is that he isn't even his real dad and that makes him lesser) puts a stop to it, and jon prioritized having clark and martha safe because he always though of them first, plus clark being with the group would allow him to use his powers if necessary rather than save one old man.

at no point does clark's guilt define him, it helps him learn to become better. what you're spouting applies more to the donner film because clark makes a speech about having all those abilities and not being able to save his old man from a simple disease. that's being defined by guilt. here clark is defined by what it means to be a hero, which is to put others above yourself, even in the face of death.

i can't even call you a jeet because jeets are snyder fanboys and watch his movies. you're just an idiot, plain and simple.
>>
>>223569415
I did watch the movie, that's why I know it's such an awful take and representation of Superman. It doesn't understand the character at all. That the take is flawed at all levels, all because Snyder wanted to do something different. It's a betrayal of the character, and just because you like him gloomy, depressed, cynical and angry, that doesn't mean I will accept that as who Superman is.
>>
>>223569485
IT WAS THE FIRST FILM IN A MULTI-FILM ARC YOU STUPID FUCKING NIGGER
SNYDER WAS BUILDING UP TO THE SUPERMAN WE ALL KNOW AND LOVE
THAT MEANS HE HAS TO GO THROUGH SOME HARD TRIALS FIRST
YOU STUPID FAGGOT ASS
>>
>>223569508
But you can't build him into the Superman we all know and love when the construction is fundamentally different from who Superman is.

Superman does indeed have to go through hard trials. That is not the issue. The issue is with the nature and construction of his foundations as a character, and how the trials functions in the story. It's the same issue with making goddamn General Zod the first villain of the first film, starting the entire franchise out with a world ending threat that levels Metropolis, as well as causing tremendous damage on the opposite of the globe as well. It also forced Superman to be a murderer in the first film, on top of making him a bystander letting others die for his own benefit, and thing being tested being strength rather than his morals and restraint. Again, a fundamental misunderstanding of Superman as a character.
>>
>>223569594
so when john byrne does it it's okay? because mos the movie is almost a 1:1 of mos the comic.

>murderman
oh my god this fucking nonsense again.
>>
>>223569618
You think Snyder's take on Superman is reflective of John Byrnes reboot of the character in the 80s?
>>
>>223568422
I would have caused it. The world would be fucked.
>>
>>223569264
Really, Jonathan read the handbook of Kryptonian superpowers on Earth, he was a DC comics nerd growing up
>>
>>223569820
>I need a book to parent who has super strength

Dururrrrrrrrr
>>
>>223568498
He just had to run slighty fast and take him to safety, most people there wouldn’t know what happened considering the situation and even if someone saw something, nobody would believe them people say crazy things all the time.
>>
>>223569745
it's a direct influence on both the plot and visual designs
it even has influence in bvs
the fact that you're questioning this tells me you've never read it
>>
>>223569846
How does Johnathan know what Clark is capable of, he didn't see what he did to save the school bus, he raised Clark to keep it all a secret
>>
>>223569997
In the reboot run, does Jonathan Kent die while Clark is still a teenager? Does Clark travel around aimlessly in his youth taking his anger out on rude customers? Does Zod and his minions invade earth and attempt to kill all life on the planet? I could go on and on and on.

The John Byrne run did introduce some new ideas that became mainstay of the Superman canon. But Zack Snyders Man of Steel is incredibly far removed from John Byrnes reboot.
