/tv/ if you hated Digger, congratulations on proving the movie was written for people smarter than you

No, "Tom Cruise is rich and bad" is NOT the movie. If that's genuinely all you got from it, you may as well have spent the runtime staring at the wall.

Digger is about the kind of narcissist who can help create a catastrophe and then genuinely convince himself that becoming the guy who "fixes" it makes him the hero. The absurdity is the entire fucking point. The spectacle, the ego, the environmental destruction, the self-mythologizing .

But apparently subtlety is illegal now because half of /tv/ needs a character to turn to the camera and explain the theme before they can process it.

"I didn't like it because nothing happened" = "I require Marvel-tier stimulation to maintain consciousness."

"I thought it was pretentious" = "I became uncomfortable when a movie expected me to interpret something."

"It's just Tom Cruise playing a billionaire" = congratulations, you have identified the protagonist's occupation.

It's not a rich guy bad meme movie, you're not critiquing it. You're demonstrating the exact intellectual laziness it's making fun of.

I ain’t reading all that I’m happy for you though or sorry that happened

>subtle
Did we watch the same movie? I know you think people lack media literacy or whatever Reddit phrase it is now, but the one thing it isn't is subtle.

Digger is incredibly obvious about its themes, but apparently some people still stop at "billionaire bad" and think they've exhausted what the movie is doing. You can have a giant flashing neon sign pointing at the theme and still have interesting things to say about it.

The point is that understanding the premise isn't the same as understanding the movie.

having a movie be the thing it ends up critiquing at the very end with a twist ending does not make it smart with one tacked on scene. the whole thing about making it a play to commentate on a real life disaster was totally unnecessary. if your movie is 99.9% neill blomkamp tier political commentary with the ending being "goy slop bad because it placates the public into compliance with fascism" doesn't make it a good movie. there are good themes worth exploring in this movie but with a more focused writer and a director that wasn't pretentious, this could've been done a lot better.

>Digger is about the kind of WHITE narcissist who can help create a catastrophe that will impact BROWN PEOPLE and LIBERALS, and then genuinely convince himself that becoming the WHITE guy who "fixes" it makes him the WHITE SAVIOR.

No one wants to see that shit. No one asked for it. White hate rage pieces? On a date night?
