Yeah he surprised me with his performance, he was really good. I think it was smart to make the decoy the sympathetic heart of the movie. The movie doesn't want you to sympathize much with Hansen, but it obviously doesn't want you to sympathize with pedos either, so Dan being the 3rd pillar who was just an innocent guy that gets dragged through this world of filth and exploitation, was a really good way to give the audience somebody to relate to.
