The extra features with the news reporter and Andy were pretty fun.

It's better than the original. But Day of the Dead remains the best "of the Dead" film, followed by Night of the Living Dead 1990

Too offensive to the liberal scum of the world.

Remake is amazing for horde scenes but falls flat at stupidity of survivors at the end.

As much as I hate to admit it, I’ve watched the 2006 Dawn of the Dead a lot more than the original.
>Night of the Living Dead
Remake is better, the original is kind of corny.
>Dawn of the Dead
There’s parts I really like about the original but overall I would say the 2006 one is more entertaining.
>Day of the Dead
Out of the “Dead Trilogy” it’s my favorite. It’s bleak and has great effects. I never watched those Day of the Dead straight to DVD movies.
I’ll throw this in, The Crazies = remake. I like both for different reasons. The original has a great chaotic feel, and I love the military aspect of trying to control the outbreak. The remake is more of a straight forward linear movie but still great.
The unfortunate truth is Return of the Living Dead is the best zombie movie.

Dawn (2004) has a better opening.
Dawn (1978) has a better middle bit.
Both have kind of weak endings if I'm being completely honest. Day has the least shitty ending of the four. Night is interesting for its historical context, but is the one I find myself rewatching the least.
Fuck Land. Fuck Diary. Fuck Survival.

Btw, a direct sequel to Day of the Dead (1985) has been made and is rotting in a drawer somewhere. It stars the three survivors of DotD 85 with the same actors, but for some reason it's been shelved since 2021. It's called "Night of the Living Dead 2".

And yes, The Return of the Living Dead (all sequels drop the "The") is the king and will always remain so.

Not much is known about it outside of a short teaser and a couple of photographs. Some say they flew too close to the Twilight of the Dead sun, but no one can say for sure. Maybe they ran out of money. Who knows?

>Fuck Land. Fuck Diary. Fuck Survival.
Yeah. It's really too bad about Land which has moments of greatness in it. The other two are irredeemable, true. They're so bad I can hardly believe Romero had anything to do with them.

I think Land of the Dead can be saved if all of its ham-fisted racism plot points were erased. Like, no one cared about Irish people being Irish in the 1970s, much less in the early 2000s.
Also, money still being a thing? George Romero for sure went senile during its making, God rest his soul.
>>
>>223573406

>>223575801
In 2009 it was estimated that each stall in a food court serves about 300 customers/day. 5 stalls with 3 days worth of stock has 4500 meals worth of food. Add to that any additional food sources (movie theater, magazine/loto stores, any sit in resturants) and you would have enough food for 12-15 people for quite some time as long as there was power to the fridges/freezers.
>>
>>223571076
I don't know bout all that. Between the intro and third act, you'd have one of the best zombie films ever made. It's the mall and its ties to Dawn that drag it down..
>>
>>223570796
>better than the original
Everyone who genuinely believes this should never watch movies again
>>
>>223573382

Why doesn't Dan O Bannon get the recognition he deserves?
>>
>>223570746

OP sucks and is a retard. The Dawn of the Dead remake is kino.
>>
>>223576061
>quite some time
Okay and how fast does it spoil? I'd give the mall+ food court idea no more than a few months tops.
Let's be generous and say that the power to the freezers last 6 months. That'd still fly by once established, and there would be a crapton of ways into the deathtrap-mall.

I think the best bet would be to raid the mall of supplies in an intelligent fashion (unlike the bikers in the superior original) and then quite literally head for the hills because living people have trouble going out of their way, so a rotting corpse, presumably walking around because of magic, would most certainly have more difficulties on even ground;etc.
>>
>>223574221
Land at least had bits that were interesting or kinda neat.

>Why doesn't Dan O Bannon get the recognition he deserves?

He was rough on one of his female stars in The Return of the Living Dead, so he may have been soft-cancelled.
Yeah I know he's dead.
>>
>>223576643
Cause nobody gives a flying fuck about scriptwriters and said scripts typically pass through dozens of hands. The movies rarely resemble earlier drafts.

For example, Alien had Ripley die in the end with the Xeno pulling a predator by using her voice or some shit to record a log entry.
>>
>>223576827
>scriptwriters
Nta, but O'Bannon directed The Return of the Living Dead, which I believe was his first directorial effort.
>>
>>223576906
His screenplay efforts make up the list anon provided. Regarding his directorial efforts, and as good as Rtold is, a single slamdunk wasn't enough to impress most back then.
>>
>>223576942
>and as good as Rtold is, a single slamdunk wasn't enough to impress most back then.

That's a shame because Pulp Fiction is greatness, but everything else Tarantino has done has been crappy, but he gets acclaim as some master filmmaker. Yes, I am saying Dan O'Bannon's memory deserves it.
He also did all the best graphic displays in the cockpits of the X-Wings in a little independent film called "Star Wars".
>>
>>223573382
I've never seen the movie but I've seen this scene and that girl has the perfect ass.
>>
>>223577016
>I've never seen the movie
Anon, I'm personally restoring the real original with all the music and sounds, so if you're going to wait to see it, you may as well wait another week or so (before I put it on archive.org where it may or may not sit for days, weeks, or just hours).
It's a masterful work of a film, Anon. It looks like it was made for way more than its real budget and it's just the best non-Romero zombie film ever made and it's literally the real sequel to Night of the Living Dead.

*No one has a straight answer for why a UK Blu-ray in PAL (yuck) has all the original music and not NTSC sources. Yuck because PAL films run slightly too fast leading to higher-pitched voices due to that they also end three minutes sooner than intended.
>>
>>223576994
I liked Reservior dogs and it got his name out there during its festival run. Pulp Fiction was a such a strong follow up that the momentum solidified his popularity.

Rotld feels ahead of its time while simultaneously being a product of its time. It's one of those works that eclipses its creator. Had he built a steady track record as a director, I'm certain his name would be better known.

You should watch the movie if you like '80's dark humor/horror. It has a great soundtrack and a crazy ending. Ranked very high in the zombie movie must see list. Don't bother with the sequels unless you just get hooked on it.
I would post more of the girl, but I don't want to get banned again.
>>
>>223577162
>Reservior dogs

I won't pretend that it's a bad film, but it's nothing more of an average film with some solid acting, nothing more. The best scene was clearly the final scene. RIP Chris Penn.

>Rotld feels ahead of its time while simultaneously being a product of its time.

Yup. And you're right, but it is a shame. The Return of the Living Dead, is, as Clu Gulager called it: "a work of art."
He even said of the 500 films he did, only 5 were works of art.
>>
>>223577176
>It has a great soundtrack
As long as you hunt down a Laserdisc or VHS, then it doesn't really. A neutered soundtrack is found on the DVD and Blu-rays. Same for the 4K. Got 'em all but a VHS copy.

I've been listening to the soundtrack for a long time. Had a cassette of it in my old Camero. We would listen to it around Halloween time when we were out getting high.
You can find much better sounding versions on Youtube if you want to download them.

I'm good, Anon, but thank you. I have the original 1985 CD soundtrack. To my knowledge the incidental score has never been officially published, but it is on youtube as well in a rough form.
It goes deeper than just the musical tracks, that is, Dan O'Bannon pulled a George Lucas and meddled with the score vs dialogue levels and even toned down two songs that he didn't even lose the rights to.
>>
>>223576762
How many snickers bars did the average mall have in the early 00’s
>>
>>223577391
Honestly? I worked at a Suncoast Motion Picture Company store back then and we had probably at least 30 Snickers bars on hand and maybe 20 packs of red licorice. Add that to maybe two more stores, then you'd have possibly 100 candy bars.
>>
>>223577335
I like the song tsol- “nothin for you” the most. Also young fast iranians by fu
>>
>>223577531
>Also young fast iranians by fu
Not original ;)

>I like the song tsol- “nothin for you” the most.
Same.
It's not on youtube or elsewhere that I can find, but Joe Wood does a perfect instrumental of "Nothing for You" on the musical feature supplement of the 4K steelbook from Scream Factory. It's not the butchered version he did in some bar that is on yt, no, this one make me tear up.
>>
>>223577454
Well that’s not gonna last long
>>
>>223577645
Then we'll be generous and say that the mall also has an Orange Julius and a Sbarro. So burger and pizza for at least one month. Remember, if a zombie magic thing happened it'd be random, so maybe supplies would be low.
