I watched Demonic Toys
what a bad movie, all style, no substance. I hope oddity is better.anyways, what are you watching for day 4 of spooktober?
What was the point of this?
>>223572134Why isn't this considered the goat ayy horror? The practical efx are better than 99% of slop, and all 3 acts escalate. Reminded me of The Standoff at Sparrow Creek https://letterboxd.com/film/altered/Couldn't imagine surpassing Blair Witch, ditching FF for Carpenter doing Fire in the Sky sequel, and no one gives af. I know it was a dtv production but holy fuck that was SHIT. You know from the first minutes this is going to the be crapfest....and why resurrect the villain from 1-2 as a zombie, Jason Voorhees copy?
>>223572443Lol @ this anon>>223572320Nvm, turns out I have seen this one already.
>>223572443>NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO A WOMAN IS OBSSESSED WITH ME AAAAAAAAAAAAA SAVE ME NIGGERMAN>Literally the most overused 'be careful what you wish for' adage t. Isrealite.
>>223572320Based. I had reservations but saw enough reviews, expected them to skimp on ayy itself. Or to be bored by limited location budget crap. Nope. One character becomes slightly grating but no spoilers ultimately works. The poster art and title really undersells it. I felt bad putting it off. This movie is 20 years old.
>>223572487What I like about the titles on the IKWYDLS sequels is that they keep saying "last summer" even though several years have passed. There's really no way around it, but it's still silly when you think about it. >It was 8 summers ago, old man. Get over it.
>>223572579>get message>I still know what you did last summer>movie is 20 years later
>watching Freddy’s Nightmares>episode where dreams and reality blur around a slasher called the Springwood Chopperreal original bro
I watched "A Haunting in Venice" (2023). It's very atmospheric, there's a ghost of a murdered girl, and only towards the end when Poirot gathers all the suspects and holds his little speech about how who was murdered by who does it turn out this is not a horror movie, but a crime story. So sorry about that, but I liked the movie and I thought a few of you might too.
>>223572460For me they should've just ditched his GF and had him build a wholesome, platonic relationship with Uxia until the reveal/escalation.
>>223572666Agreed. The pacing was honestly kinda bad.
>>223572657that movie needed 1000% less michelle yeoh, she is awful and they keep putting her in things to ruin
>>223572657I used to watch the Suchet Poirot with my gran and some episodes get surprisingly gruesome for a mystery show, they walk a fine line between mystery and horrorSacrifices, drowned kids, needle torture, that kind of shit
>>223572657he was haunted by trauma so its the same as any other modern horror
>>223572733>that movie needed 1000% less michelle yeohYes, and miscast for a character named "Joyce Russell".>>223572761I haven't got around to watching those, but I've heard many times that Suchet was the definitive Poirot.>>223572767Sigh. But really in the movie it's explained as poison honey that causes madness and hallucinations -- and death in larger doses.

#8 The Ghost (2024) – A very, *very* Weak Worth a Watch. How nice is the camerawork in this film -- wherein a late 19th, early 20th century Irish father and daughter go to take care of a PALATIAL estate in the countryside for its absent owners. Late autumn, a half-wild mystical landscape . . . a massive mansion that *should* play host to many ghosts! The early atmosphere earns that *glancing* Watch for the flick, though, and no more, ‘cause buckle up Bucko! There AIN’T NO GHOSTS, and everything you see is just an overwrought, over-tired metaphor for mental illness and sexual abuse by a close family member! Mind-broken after the death of his wife, papa Irishman turns into a (completely non-mystical) version of Jack Torrance and begins not only to feel murderous, but to LUST FOR THE LOLI OF HIS OWN LOINS. What a waste of a spooky old house! Haven’t we had enough of these stupid metaphor films yet? Did I mention that it’s the first film *ever* to be completely in the Irish language? But who cares? It’s just the Shining, and the spooks are only ABUSE.
>>223573896Funny enough, he was also in the Nightmare Room episode anon mentioned in the last thread
#7 Debbie Does Damnation (1999) – Worth a Watch for sure! It’s not high art, but it’s unique: an hour-long, crudely comedic sword ‘n’ sandal epic IN HELL, shot on B&W Super 8 by a porn industry guy named Eric Brummer -- starring what seem to be the porn actresses and actors he already knew. Three years in the making, it’s a non-stop barrage of jiggling titties, wooden sword duels, flying severed limbs, crudely stop-motioned animated clay demons and action figure “stunt doubles.” All the animations are by Brummer himself, who also carved all the weapons out of wood and assembled the armor from linoleum and tacks, and also pieced together the entire ARCHITECTURE OF HELL from cardboard. Ridiculous dubbing adds extra charm. Said by a demon-lord after decapitating a warrior: “Nasty! This fag was filled up with pudding and kitty litter!” Brummer didn’t expect to make money from this, and by all accounts he did not. It’s just a thing he *really* wanted to put together, and you’ve got to respect that. (I could see this being great for ambiance at Halloween parties.)
>>223573904it is meta, that's trueand seriously, he's 100% uncle phil but the actor is not credited, wtf

>>223573356I guess that depends on your definition of "good"
The Haunting in Conneticut. (2009) dir. Peter Cornwellhonestly mediocre. gave a similar sensation to walking though a haunted house attraction for better and for worse. i would recommend 13 ghosts or jeepers creepers over it. 13 ghosts is probably the first movie that comes to mind that has the same vibe. wet and cold but not shivering. the cinematography was all over the place and generally amateur. the practical effects were decently well done and had a good amount of character. the period stuff was tacky and halloween costumey. Thematically its about accepting fate but it wanted to have its cake and eat it too, waste of time desu. three false endings. Jump scares as frequent and disconnected as musical numbers in bad musicals. this has the trappings of a horror film but forgot to tell a decent story underneath. The papyrus font in the opening credits should tell you what you need to know. violin stabs genuinely startled me a couple times though. All that negativity to say i dont think i really disliked it, it just felt a bit hollow. the spooky lore was fun, and the based on tru events shit was dumb. its a slop film, but if its your speed its a good kind of slop.

This was definitely more cut and dry than Caveat but I appreciated the craftsmanship in directing. The movie started real creepy and escalated from there with the peak being the scene where the ghost sister spooked the girlfriend out of the house, then it ends on a whimper. Neat to see a golem as the monster and the Looney Tunes bit was hilarious. Now I'm excited for Hokum since the general reception seems to be universally positive.
>>223578610>Anya is under appreciated, but even more so as a character.Anya was a great character. Emma Caulfield was meh at best. I seriously don't know why you guys think Willow was hot either. But to each their own.
>>223578642Oddity is McCarthy's best imo. Hokum is a mixed bag. Some loved it and some hated it. I thought it was just ok.
>>223578757I wanted Oddity to be my favorite with the setting, the characters, and the tension building but then I felt whelmed by the final act. I'm curious to see where my thoughts land on Hokum
>>223578886Oddity has a great setup and some cool sequences, but it just kind of fails to come together coherently, which seems to be a weakness of the filmmaker.
>>223578642No matter what the thoughts were on this film, I think everyone liked the buildup and scare at the tent
>>223572283huge thanks for this, anon, I think the WNUF crew are looking at only catering to fans from here out and aren't looking for wide distribution for their movies, so this is greatly, greatly appreciated.
>>223572657I could tell this would flop opening weekend, because I knew it would turn out to not be supernatural and word of mouth would be negative due to it. I figured that in 2000+23 normies have no idea who Poirot is and wouldn't know going in that his stories aren't like that.
>>223578927>but it just kind of fails to come together coherentlyIn regards to Oddity, I wouldn't put it like that. I think the falling action after the "big reveal" was logical enough it just felt half-baked. >>223579015I definitely enjoyed both, unfortunately though after the tent scene the film did what the zoomers call a million aura points lost with the killer.
>>223579216Ah, my mistake. I meant to say that it was Hokum that failed to come together. Oddity did get underwhelming in the third act, but it was at least coherent. I don't mean to sour your expectations, but Hokum has several scenes which are almost like vignettes in that they don't have anything to do with anything else in the film.
For tonights film I decided to watch Jess Francos Jack the Ripper (1976) and I gotta say the highlight of the whole film is when Lina Romay is a burlesque dancer/hooker that Jack the Ripper (played by Klaus Kinski) takes to a foggy wooded area where he stabs her then rapes her and french kisses her and then takes her body to his creepy female friends place but shes still alive so he cuts her boobs and arm off anyway its definitely one of Francos more coherent films and I would give it a solid 6.9/10
Fifth film was Baghead. It has a lot of bad reviews but it wasn't so bad. A lot of shitty cgi.
I have to admit, I was not expecting full frontal nudity within the first 5 minutes of a TV movie.
>>223577190I’ll be honest, the elevated horror era is better then what he had before, the “let’s make everything found footage” era.I like found footage, but it was clear they were just making every horror film into found footage because Paranormal Activity was so popular.
>>223579428And before that, the torture porn era and the let’s remake every 80’s slasher era.
>>223579246>I don't mean to sour your expectations, but Hokum has several scenes which are almost like vignettes in that they don't have anything to do with anything else in the film. It's cool, I don't mind having to temper my expectations, which honestly weren't that high regardless. I mostly just appreciate modern horror for the vibes and if those particular scenes are executed well enough I could tolerate stuff like that.
>>223579463Fair enough. I will say that one of those seemingly random scenes is really very good. I hope you have a good time with it.
What the fuck did I just watch
>>223579633RETURN TO MONKE
>>223579633monke
>put on The Blood Spattered Bride>typical Carmilla story>should be comfy 70s trash>rape, tits/bush within first five minutes>suddenly live fox that's "caught" in a bear trap>actually gets shot in the head twice by a double-barreled shotgun>wow
>>223579682nothing from and also depicting the 70s is comfy
>>223579682I will now watch your movie
Just finished. RSOS #04An embarrassment of loli riches. "This is where the witch committed suicide" will always be one of the funniest lines in horror movie history.
>>223578757>>223579246For me, it was Caveat > Hokum > Oddity. If the murderer wasn't uncovered so soon, it would've beaten Hokum probably, but Oddity had really too few characters to make it work as a murder mystery just like Hokum which can work for a horror movie, but not if you're also trying to make it a murder mystery. Now that I think about it, McCarthy really uses few characters in his movies...
>>223579682Mondo Macabro and Grindhouse Releasing are two of my favorite labels because their tastes tend to skew rough without veering into edgy. Lots of grim and unpleasant movies in both catalogs. Watch Silip, I beg you guys.
>>223579428That's just your opinion. In my opinion they both suck equally.
>>223579779Man I love the first Conjuring movie. I think it has the best scares in the whole franchise. Yes it's a bit silly but what did you expect? It's Farmiga and Wilson who make it work. They make the whole lackluster series watchable because they're so good.
>>223579982>Famiga and WilsonTheir aura is incredible, they definitely carry the movie. That and it being scary
when were y'all planning to tell me there's a new Joko Anwar available to watch. probably cause it's comedy eh, we'll I'll find out
>>223580001There's a funny irony in that the Warrens as movie characters are so wholesome when by every account the real people were scammers, and Ed was a philanderer. But those two actors have incredible screen chemistry, and the Warrens as characters really are lovable.
>>223579831Agreed, and I think tha he should stick to basic spooky house stories.
I wasn't with this for the first hour, but the astral projection realm was kinda cool... I don't know about that Darth Maul demon though >there's 5 sequels and another on the wayJesus
>>223580108I'm going to watch a couple of these for the first time this month
>>223580291Let me know how the sequels are. I'm not sure if I'll get around to them any time soon, but I'll be watching more Wans this month. I'm on Malignant right now and it's pretty action packed from the start
>>223579042Plus it's a Kenneth Branagh Poirot and true Agatha Christie fans don't like his adaptations - they're all not true to the source material.
>>223579361She was murdered by her ex in 2009
>>223580048>philandererHey now he was also a groomer and a statutory rapist who sent his wife to take his 15 year old mistress to get a back alley abortion.
>>223580409Sad
>>223580487Even sadder is the cops just ignore all the evidence and the public has been petitioning for them to examine the case since
>>223580458Yep that too
my october is turning into an exploration of jeffrey combs kinos. so far:>the pit and the pendulum>bride of re-animator>castle freak>necronomiconand next i guess I'll do Fortress or Lurking Fear. i love this lil guy like you wouldnt believe.
>>223580064I love this guy's stuff
>>223580525Looks like she stopped getting parts around 2005. Wonder if she pissed the wrong ppl off.
>>223580555Check out Frightmare (1981) if you want to see his goofy start to horror stardom
Watched Piranha (1995)Very good remake. Don't know how this was a TV movie because there was full frontal nudity and just as much blood, gore and violence as the original. Good cast and was nice to see James Karen in it as well as a cute & funny Mila Kunis.
>>223580651it was made for premium cable
>>223580597looks great I'll move it to the top of the list. i was just thinking that combs kinda looks like bruce campbell sometimes, depending on light and angle, and i can see it in your pic too. i guess it's the jaw and the eyes. or I have autistic face blindness.
Alright no idea what this is, but I'm gonna find out
>>223580969Where do you even find these movies
>>223580969the guy who played the first zombie you see in NOTLD got to parlay that into making his own zombie movie, not that much to it besides that
>>223580982I don't even remember, it's like when a mystery VHS tapes turns up and the kids put it in despite not knowing where it came from and it's haunted
>>223580939I hadn't thought of that, but I can see it in your pic. They're a dying breed, unfortunately. Horror has a real lack of charismatic leading men these days who can balance badass and comedic.
I liked this more than The Substance, and I say that as a card carrying Margaret Qualley simp

>>223575638I... don't.
>>223580969>>223580998He sent dailys to Romero and Savini who were making the re-make of NOTLD. They responded with a cease and desist. Then they basically told him either make your movie or stop and be in the production of the remake. He chose to make this film. Its a little campy but its a great seasonal feel. It takes place on Halloween, there's fallen leaves, some kids are trick-or-treating. Its full of 20 something tits getting grabbed by a literal old ghoul. Fun movie with seasonal atmosphere and Pittsburgh accents.
