Their best bet would be a hard reset, do-over from S1 with new Ellie actress, new Joel, new everything. Obviously they never will so we'll instead get a final S3 no one asked for with the perfect Ellie playing Abby and that weirdo potato-head Ellie, it will be critically panned and immediately forgotten.
