What went wrong? He was the biggest filmmaker in history and now he's forgotten
>>
Like everyone else, he got old and lost his touch. Happens 100% of the time with no exceptions in every medium you can name.
>>
>>223577295
Who?
>>
Like many a good directors in hollywood, he has the technical ability, but he is simply too out of touch to make a good movie anymore,
>>
>>223577399
I say he still makes roughly the same quality as he did, it's just that filmmaking and audiences in general have grown out of it.
>>
>>223579344
Haha no. Jaws, Close Encounters, Raiders of the Lost Ark, all classics, and now he makes forgettable garbage.
>>
>>223577295
shoudl I watch Fabelmans? I heard it is something very personal to him

Also his best movie is ET. you cant argue that.
>>
>>223579419
Jaws is his finest film. Robert Shaw. Roy Scheider. Come on, man.
>>
>>223579433
its certainly up there but its ET. It has to be. The music is phenomenal
>>
>>223579462
E.T. is a wonderful film. Best I can do is a tie.
I got two copies of each film, so I can't hate on either.
>>
>>223577295
the elites dont need their propaganda machines any more now that they have ai.
>>
>>223577295
The audience got wise to his Jewish shtick. His films were never good in the first place. Try watching ET now, it’s fucking garbage. Some accidental bangers early in his career, often carried by the composer and the cast, not enough to make a good movie today.
>>
>>223580293
>His films were never good in the first place
that's just wrong
>>
>>223577295
He was never good
>>
>>223577295
A.I. is more relevant now than it's ever been
>>
>>223579462
>>223579487
>ET
Will never forgive the censorship in this film and what it has done for the industry since.
>>
>>223577399
Dostoevsky remained great to the end. Imagine your last book being Brothers Karamazov. Not like that hack Tolstoy and Resurrection.
>>
>>223579344
>>223577295
you can't nostalgia bait if you dont have a culture. culture's gone.
>>
>>223580539
This is why he lays low
>>
His stuff is just adventure slop with huge budgets if Carpenter was jewish and got an unlimited budget to do whatever he wanted he’d be more well known than Spielberg.
>>
>>223580357
Doestoevky wrote that when he was only 59 thoughever, Spielberg is 79
>>
>>223582916
carpenter proved repeatedly that he can't do shit with a big budget, he needs the low budget to function
>>
>>223582988
The Thing was a $15 million dollar movie
>>
>>223583026
Cost about as much as Riders of the Lost Ark.
>>
Jurassic Park was his last good movie
>>
>>223577295
His style was falsely meaningful, and falsely American. It’s aged poorly because it’s corny, and each picture relies too heavily on the spirit of the time in which it was released to work. 1941… made a profit but forgettable. Spielberg was a brand after Jaws and Close Encounters, not a great filmmaker. He’s proof you can put layer upon layer of piece of film knowledge on top of a person, and still not be able to create a great director. I think his only good film is The Color Purple; he doesn’t use the gimmicks, and the black stories in it aren’t Jew washed, he shows the incest, beatings, it’s refreshing compared to all of the black savior works we have today.
>>
>>223580357
>Not like that hack Tolstoy and Resurrection.
Tolstoy’s last project was Hadji Murat, and it’s considered one of the best short stories ever written. Tolstoy was writing great shit until the end, and I’d honestly say Tolstoy generally outshines Dostoevsky, not the other way around.
>>
>>223577295
Yea whats your beef?
He made some hits, some classics even, he proved himself, what more does he need to do? People will always remember Jaws, Jurassic Park, ET, Raiders, Goonies, that kind of stuff.

What he needs to still make stuff to prove who he is? Enough already. Spielberg is fine man. And his shit is good!
>>
Disclosure Day was the worst thing he’s ever done.
>>
>>223579501
Terrible answer. AI hasn't created anything yet and Spielberg has been useless for years.

>>223580293
>The audience got wise to his Jewish shtick
Not consciously they didn't

>>223584225
Decent answer
>>
>>223577295
He's 80. Easy.
>>
>>223577399
Pretty much. He lost his teeth as well. Compare something like Raiders of the Lost Ark to Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. He has no grit anymore, no sand.
>>
>>223577295
you'll live to see a lot more famous people forgotten
>>
>>223586536
This. Happens to all of them
>inb4 someone suggests Coppola's last movie was actually good
>>
>>223585774
Lol nope he literally directed BFG

Obama and the DNC mindbroke him
>>
I enjoyed him in Mortal Kombat movie, the part with Linden Ashby as John Boy Cage.
>>
>>223577295
Same thing that happened to everyone else from that period, they can't make green screen CGI movies, not that other can.
>>
>>223585774
>>223587071
I hate Crystal Skull more than both of those
>>
>>223577295
The Hollywood landscape turned into only funding propaganda after 2016 and Trump.

It's why Coppala took 25 years to fund his movie
Why Tom Cruise is the only working A lister and needs to fund his vehicles

And why scorcese had to make cringe Netflix slop or cringe Native American propaganda to get funding

If it's not pushing a political message it gets no funding

>Will never forgive the censorship in this film and what it has done for the industry since.

He apologized, not that he had to, yet he did and he's always made every version of E.T. available, unlike is best friend Lucas. Moreover, the special edition of E.T. is now the rare one.

>>223586561
You got it. For instance, take "The Temple of Doom", it's a dark movie and it was made when George Lucas was getting divorced. He even said that he was in a bad mood when he made it with Spielberg, and that's why the movie has some guile to go along with the whahoo jokes and that's why it works because its creators were still feeling real strong human emotions. Unlike now because they've rich and comfortable and fulfilled for decades.
>>
*they've **been rich

So with movies you just gotta time that kind of thing so you can stop in time. Star Wars 4-6? Perfect. The rest? Imperfect.
Indiana Jones 1-3? Perfect, with the rest being trash (except for video games and novels).
The same can be said for almost any genre too.
The Return of the Living Dead-art. Part II? Flawed art, but I love it. Part III? Flawed art again and somehow a bit worse. 4 and 5? Just embarrassing. See a pattern?

Walkie Talkies.
>>
>>223590010
>Original E.T. puppet erased and replaced with CGI in some spots.
>guns held by cops and feds are replaced with walkie talkies
>a small bit of dialogue is deleted in the special edition version
