Why is this dude so corny? Everything he makes is so laden with goobery dialogue and “writers barely disguised fetish” shit

Was the style at the time.

He wasn't always so bad. His earlier work on Buffy and Angel was a bit more restrained. But as his career progressed he got worse and worse. Unfortunately he must have thought that ripping the heart out of everything by dismissing sincerity with irony was the key to his success.

Fake feminism he used to creep on young actressess. Many such cases.

He is a victim of his own genius. His style of writing became so popular and liked that it got copied overused and rejected at the end. Culture always breeds counter culture.

because gen x are retards who aren't good at anything. That's why they actually "don't care about being ignored".
They actually care a lot but they're untalented and lazy.

Gen-X was carrying some cultural trends that started in the 60s and made their height in the 70s, before retreating in the 80s and coming back in full fortce in the 90s. The irony, self-aware nature, and detachment, alongside satire, is because they're cynical and burned out. They think media is a joke and silly.

When sprinkled around tv shows it was okay, but a whole generation of writers grew up on the Simpsons, Buffy, Firefly, and Angel, that it became THE dominant kind of writing.

Oh and The Simpsons doesn't get enough flack since it was also the other major 90s series that did this. Pretty much the entire "reddit" style of posting and much of Millennial humor comes from the Simpsons. Joss was just riding The Simpsons' cultural coatails and what they had already popularized.

He started Buffyspeak which morphed into Marvelspeak and then fully broke out of containment. He started it.

The thing is, it fully works in Buffy. All the imitations since are awful.
