Would you do better or worse than Pyle if you got drafted?
>>
>>223581989
I’d be dead the moment they gave me my gun lol
>>
Pyle is only 20 pounds overweight. Me? I'm 100 pounds overweight.
>>
How hard would it be in the late 60s to run off and avoid the draft?
>>
>>223582040

But why would you want to avoid it? There's cute Asian women over there.
>>
I'd shoot more of my fellow soldier
I'd just start shooting everyone I saw until someone put a bullet in my head
>>
>>223581989
If someone yelled at me like that I would probably start crying
>>
That fucking drill sarge would die, id kill him, if rip off his fucking eyeballs for talking to me like that, fucking piece of shit baby killer
>>
>>223582007
That's well below the limit in 2026. They would just send you to fat camp
>>
I liked this movie a lot but I'm not sure I got the message of the second part
>>
>>223581989
Pyle wasn't drafted.
>>
>>223582824
I don't know either. Kubrick is so intensely detail-driven I always wonder if I'm missing some hidden layer that gives it a point and makes it less like a cheap version of apocalypse now
>>
>>223581989
I'd listen to what sarge had to say, and that's what nobody did
>>
>>223582839
Was Joker drafted? Why would someone like him enlist voluntarily? Seems a bit much to do it ironically
>>
>>223581989
I would fragg my officer with an actual frag
>>
>>223582729
Rare honest post
>>
>>223581989
I'd immediately defect to Russia, an actual Christian nation. Not a disgusting cesspool of Marxism.
>>
How in the first place Pyle ended up in the marines? As I recall, it's 1967 in the film, not some 1973.
>>
I would probably do pretty well. I remember when I did my millitary conscription we had a couple of zero motivation lazy guys that were not dependable at all and one 70 IQ somali who was comedically incompetent. The system is designed so that even the retards pass through.

He was one of McNamara's Morons.

FMJ is so fucking comfy bros.

I understand that if you are drafted then you have no choice. But what happens if from the constant abuse that you take you just kind of mentally snap and say I'm done I quit I don't want to do this anymore. What happens? Did you just get thrown in the brig or something?
>>
>>223581989
I knew a substitute teacher who served in both Vietnam and gulf war I ask him was McNamara’s morons real and recruits like pvt Pyle existed in Vietnam he said yes and said he knew a guy in basic who was a hillbilly white guy that lived in Virginia or somewhere in Appalachia he couldn’t read and couldn’t tie his shoes, but in Vietnam he was an expert and a natural in the jungle because it just like home.
>>
>>223582777
digits confirm
>>
>>223581989
I think I would do ok better than Pyle Definitely but hope I don’t have an officer like captain America from generation kill a complete dumb fuck who would get fragged in Vietnam
>>
>>223584032
An officer who doesnt have to fight points a gun at you and tells you to attack or hell shoot you himself.
The military has always been evil.

Better and then sell out to the winning side to start my own cult.
>>
>>223581989
Better? I already passed army BCT. I'm aware Marine boot camp is considered rougher than BCT especially back then but it would be very difficult to do worse than he did especially at first before he had Joker help him.
I also am now reminded of some poor SOB who was in my reception battalion by the name of Pvt Wyle. Yeah on top of having a name that perfectly lends itself to the nickname pyle. He really was like a real life version of him. Very overweight, to the point I'm not sure how he passed the tape test to get in in the first place. In reception they could only make us do 10 push-ups at a time and he struggled with even that. When we got to our actual training battery he wasn't in any of the platoons so I can only assume he got chaptered out pretty quick.
>>
Better easily.
If Pyle actually pushed himself and made an improvement over where he started out, he'd get a lot of praise, drill sergeants love that shit.
Unfortunately he was lazy and stole food.
>>
Are standards lowered for the draft or non-existent?
Like is it possible to be so bad that they just don't want you?
>>
>>223586218
They lowered standards for draft AND recruitment back then, big time. I knew a guy who beat a murder rap and prison sentence by Signing Up. He "accidentally" killed a high school teacher back in the 70's by drunkenly crashing his car into a classroom.
>>
>>223586218
If you intentionally miss every target, fail every fitness/strength test etc and generally act retarded, they'll still force you into a supporting role, which will inevitably end up with you thrown on to the frontlines regardless. In a real war/draft situation of course.

Been there done that, in my country we have conscription. It was fun and comfy. I did alright despite being a fat fuck. They don't yell quite as much in real life as in the movies. Still, less yelling than at home. Military was a nice vacation from it.
>>
>1/3 of all personnel in vietnam were drafted
kinda crazy when you think about it, it's not like the US was under any sort of threat
>>
>>223586188
After he got beat up with the soap and went insane, Pyle became a great marksman during training, the sergeant even praised him.

But then Pyle decided to kill the sergeant and blow his brains out so all that improvement went to waste.
>>
>>223581989
Pyle wasn't drafted, he volunteered.
>>
>>223586417
Finland or swiss?
>>
>>223584032
If you genuinely just refuse you go to jail.
>>
>>223581989
I went through boot camp in 2012 and we had a Private Pyle in my platoon
I joked about blanket partying him, and when the drill sgts found out, I got chaptered for it cuz they said I was bullying him.
Had a 90 on my ASVAB, 260 PT, and shot 30/40 targets.
>>
>>223583225
Look up McNamara’s Morons. It’s what inspired Forrest Gump
>>
>>223582007
The days long treks without food and minimal water while carrying 80 lbs of equipment will sort you right out
>>
>>223586651
My captain got our whole company lost for the final ruck march and we ended up doing 20 miles with all that shit on our backs
Honestly wish I had just ripped his face off that day since I got discharged 15 minutes after
>>
>>223584032
If we adopt the soviet method, theyll threaten your family, sodomize and beat you until you fall in line. If you try to run on the battlefield there will be a line of shabbos goys and jews who will shoot you.
>>
>>223582007
You can go do some hiking right now. Find any trail, hike it for six - eight hours, then return home and feel the most hungry you've ever felt. Pig out and you'll still have a calorie deficit.
>>
>>223586565
Estonian
>>
>>223586597
What's chaptered? They chewed you out or you got put before a court martial?
>>
>>223586150
My AIT had a Pyle. Pretty sure his name was Noble. He'd do all sorts of dumb shit but the one thing I remember clearly was he'd get in trouble almost every morning for not shaving before formation, which led to everyone yelling at him to get up and shave.

He got fed up with getting yelled at and hacked his face up one day, then was crying about how that was what we wanted him to do. I remember telling him "No you dumbass, we want you to fucking shave in the morning when you get up like everyone else does."

He genuinely got a confused look on his face. He was so retarded that it had just genuinely never occurred to him to just do the shit the Drill Sergeants and his Platoon mates were telling him to do.

I will perform an amphibious landing onto tallinna and extract strategic resources from the super alko :DD

And also veipland :DD
>>
>>223586597
I can't believe this considering your scores were that high
>>223586723
It means they terminated his contract early. I think it's less bad than getting court martialed
>>
>>223582893
Nobody in the platoon was drafted. The Marines have always been an all volunteer force.
>>
>>223581989
If you get drafted but fail basic training do you just get sent home or do you have to redo basic?
>>
>>223581989
I wouldn't be there cause I'm not some stupid faggot dying for someone else's interests.
>>
>>223582040
Not very. About a half million men were charged for fleeing the draft, and they all got amnesty by the end of the 70s. Basically you would just go to Canada and hang out there until shit blew over.
>>
As long as there is a Christmas magic show, I think I would make it through boot camp.
>>
>>223588291
You could just stay home and ignore them too. The only people who got locked up for it were performative hippie faggots who wanted to get locked up for it. You'd never be able to get a job with the federal government or receive any type of financial aid from the federal government but they wouldn't go looking for you unless you were a noisy bitch about it.
>>
>>223587941
Redo basic, but usually you pass if they need bodies. Pyle was assigned to pretty much the instant death group.
>>
>>223582839
The movie just doesn't tell us, but it's clear that he didn't want to be there so I assume he was drafted otherwise why blow your brains out
>>
>>223582824
I think the message is the absurdity of it, the nature of war is purely destructive and rarely fought to true moral reasons
>>
>>223586417
Truth. Even my deployment to Iraq was pretty cozy. Granted it was 2009 so things had died down a lot there by then and I was in the middle of nowhere but the typical day went something like this
>wake up 0600
>go running
>SSS
>sit around radio room for a few hours bullshitting with the boys
>go for lunch
>sit around at radio room for another hour or 2.... maybe occasionally have to get the internet back working on the colonel's laptop
>get cut for evening free time at like 1600
>go to the weight room
>evening shower
>get dinner
>hang out in mwr room and play D&D with other dudes in my unit
>sleep in my air conditioned little modular hut
>repeat the next day.
The only time that actually felt like real work was when we first got there and were busy with change over and getting all the comms and other stuff set up.
>>
>>223588337
Whaaaaaaat?!?! Protesting is performative?? dude your blowing my miiiiind
>>
>>223587375
Yeah it's got the same energy as those guys that claim they would've joined the military but couldn't because "if some drill sergeant got in my face yelling like that I'd knock them out!"
One tiny joke about a sock party should not have been enough to get him immediately chaptered like that. Either entirely made up or he's not telling the full story and this was ongoing.
>>
>>223589239
Zero tolerance is everywhere now anon.
>>
>>223582040
Trivially easy. Hundreds of thousands did it.
