Was Flight an accurate portrayal of an alcoholic? He acted normal most of the time and was pretty coherent from what I could tell, in my life the few alcoholics I have met are in way worse shape.
>>
Actual functional alcoholics, you can't even tell they're drunk because it only gets them normal
>>
>>223586224
that makes no sense. how can you tell that someone is a functioning alcoholic then?
>>
>>223586170
Flight is a good portrayal of the high-functioning alcoholic, which is probably the worst type to be because you never end up having that "rock bottom" moment that convinces you to sober up. It took Whip's plane nearly crashing to set off the chain of events ending with his prison time that caused him to finally get off the sauce.
In particular, the struggle and temptation after a few days sober and the use of other drugs (cocaine, and Whip had a big ol' box of weed in the beginning) to "balance out" is very realistic.

By our smell.
>>
>>223586170
Not in the slightest. No one can drink vodka like that.
>>
>>223586247
Smell is a good way. Even if someone is a functional alcoholic and is acting normally, sometimes we can slip up and forget to chew hum or have a mint or something to cover the booze breath after a mid-day covert tipple.
>>
>>223586257
I drank the vodka like that. I'm drunk right now from drinking vodka like that.

I've been showing up drunk to work every morning for the past five years. Why don't they just fire me or tell me to get my shit togheter?
>>
>>223586281
Hope you die soon ngl

glassy eyes
>>
>>223586294
I'm gonna guess that they are drunk or high too. And 5 years is a long time bud, you probably don't have much left if you keep going like this.
>>
>>223586170
It was pretty accurate portrayal
t. an alcoholic
>>
>>223586328
I don't think so. I work with what seems to be well-adjusted respectable people.
>>
I was going to drink last weekend but I ended up just taking edibles instead.

Porque no los dos?
Being crossfaded is way better than just being drunk or high
>>
>>223586427
Weed and booze is a shit combo though
>>
>>223586247
in addition to smell the haggard look is also a dead giveaway. Chronic dehydration and lack of sleep takes it's toll over time
>>
>>223586532
What's with the assumption that alcoholics don't get any sleep? I get shitfaced and pass out before 10pm and get my 7-8 hours every night.
>>
>>223586505
It's a godly combo, you're just shit
>>223586581
It's poorer quality of sleep than if you could get the same while sober
However if you're anything like me, you'll get to the point where you need to booze yourself back to sleep if you get up in the middle of the night to piss or anything, so it's really 3-4 hours with like a 1-2 hour booze break and another 3-4 hours after that.
Other factors come into play too. For instance, hard liquor doesn't make me sleepy and relaxed the same way beer does. If I'm drinking hard liquor, I'm not sleeping. And there's a big difference in general between being an alcoholic in your 20s vs being one in your 30s and beyond.

>that makes no sense
???
It's why they are called functional alcoholics
>>
what movie is this from?
>>
The thing with alcoholics is that they all think they're better at hiding it than they are. What you call a "functioning alcoholic" is a person that everyone charitably thinks is retarded or dopey. Denzels droopy black guy face kind of nails that in a way that a normal person would assume he probably isnt drunk, but hes not fully tuned in either

Man on fire

Speak for yourself. People only ask me if I'm alright when I'm sober

deadass saw my coworker hit a bump of coke and tried to offer me some after work I was caught off guard because I though he was the type to drink a beer after work .some people can just hide their vices and seem normal
>>
>>223587772
So did you accept his offer?
>>
>>223586247
>how can you tell that someone is a functioning alcoholic then?
moonface
bad skin/hair
body odor

Alcohol isn't like heroin where you look like a "sexy druggie", it just makes you bloated and ugly
>>
>>223587858
>heroin makes you look like a sexy druggie

Are you retarded?
>>
>>223586247
>that makes no sense.
It's called tollerance, and it can build up for pretty much any drug or poison eventually.
>>
>>223586170
Was more curious if cocaine (?) could cancel out being completely shit faced like what happened towards the end of the movie. Dude comes out 100% correct and if he didn't puss out on the stand and admit everything he would have sailed right through
