It was kind of a shitty season the finale was pretty much on par with it. I never got how it was supposed to be one of the worst television episodes of all time. I really think the online reviews for every cable tv show were just at peak length and pretentiousness (remember the AV club lady who issued all her breaking bad reviews in a book?) and nobody wanted to admit they wanted to see Dexter get away with everything because they wanted to larp as highbrow film critics. So they were pissed he didn’t die, I think. They’ve pretty much said Showtime made them end it with him still alive and uncaught to leave the door open for more material, but I think critical pressure just made them kill Deb so it’s not like he was getting away with everything like he should have. The series should have ended with another frame job of a dedicated civil servant desu

She then resigned as Sheriff probably out of shame for aiding and abetting a serial killer and so that she could get out of dodge before any of it came back to her. She left Dexter a note that said "now we're even." He's just that guy.
