Haven't seen this show but why did they make an R rated Green Lantern show? It's a PG property, why do they have to corrupt everything? Are they ashamed to be making shows about comic book properties?
>>
Yes, obviously. The fact that they aren't even in their suits should make that obvious.
>>
>>223587560
It's ashamed to be a show about superheroes, that's why it appears to be a crime drame set in bumfuck nebraska. I don't know why they made it either.

Isn't GL's appeal that it's a cosmic epic filled with aliens and shit like that, then they go make something that not even Snyder would've made and he was all about grim dark bullshit

This is why DC fucking sucks, their characters are so boomer coded and lame that they have to do shit like this to make it relevant or appealing to today's audiences
>>
>Ryan Reynolds GL was universally shat on despite being a fairly comic accurate movie
>Making a comic accurate show would be expensive as shit because of all the CGI
>The comics themselves are not popular enough to justify that
>>
>>223587560
Have you seen the niggers who wrote this piece of shit show? Have you seen the boomer faggot ponce who is apparently in charge of this faggoty studio?
>>
>>223587560
Remember when Damon Lindelof said that he thought the 'green' in Green Lantern was stupid? And how he then had to backpedal, and claim he was just joking?
>>
>>223587979
Ryan Reynolds GL got shit on because the script sucked and he’s an extremely annoying faggot.

No it's actually a compelling story using the Green Lantern mythos, which is the huge triumph of it.

It's not like The Penguin where it's trying so hard to be something else that you could change the names of all of the characters and it would functionally be an entirely different show. Every character, every relationship, every story beat, the entire mystery, is fully steeped in Green Lantern world building just told at a small scale rather than a major cosmic scale. Which is just as appropriate as the other way. People act like there's only one way to do these things, but there's not. You can have a low-key Green Lantern show, or you can have a massive budget space-opera. The character lends itself to multiple variations and interpretations. That's what keeps stories fresh. But they absolutely did not skimp out on making this a show that's in love with the mythos of Green Lantern and DC comics, which is what makes it compelling.
>>
>>223588544
Thanks chatgpt, very cool
>>
>>223587560
Having watched it, I think it may have been a way of keeping the budget down. There's a minimal amount of action involving Lantern energy constructs, which makes it "less cartoony, more adult and grounded" and also kind of a rebuke of the 2011 movie which went overboard with the green CGI

besides the handful of green constructs in the 8 episodes there is almost nothing else connecting this show to the green lantern mythos, people think a character spouting off a name or reference is acceptable enough entertainment for a tv show then go read a book, at least in the comic they actually show something happening unlike this 2 characters talking for 8 episodes slop nothing happens in this show.
>>
>>223589102
>besides the handful of green constructs in the 8 episodes there is almost nothing else connecting this show to the green lantern mythos,

Let's see...
>Manhunters are at the centre of the mystery.
>Main characters are space cops who use a magic ring
>The idea of being fearless, and the requirements to be a Green Lantern are a running thread and point of contention for the two leads and informs their entire relationship
>The fact that rings are supposed to choose and not be assigned is a big point of contention between the two leads
>The Guardians and their failures with the Manhunters are a major plot point
>Hal beating Sinestro, the fact that Sinestro killed a Guardian, Hal's closeness with Sinestro, all inform the entirety of the plot.
A GL (Sinestro) proves that it's possibly to use the power to slay a Guardian. A human GL (Hal) proves to be unique in their ability to wield the power and defeats Sinestro, but he's also super close with Sinestro because of everything (and he's Hal so he doesn't listen). The Guardians wanting the power of a Human GL, but someone that's completely subordinate, all because of what happened with Hal vs Sinestro, is THE big plot driver.
>Multiple constructs, but used sparingly because of likely budget constraints but also well established reasons within the scope of the story at large.
>A story that is very much about extra terrestrials and the impact of space and aliens on the people of Earth
There was once a whole series of Hal and Green Arrow like road-tripping together and getting into terrestrial level affairs and how different people responded to them and how they clash. The beauty of comic books and comic book characters is in how versatile they are.
>>
>>223589324
The "manhunters" are not real manhunters, they never say their catchphase not one time.
One guy has a ring they share it sometimes... the ring is dead or dying 80% of the show.
Willpower is never mentioned in the show
Sinestro is show sitting down 95% of the time he's on screen and gets knocked out with one punch from a human without a fight.

It is fuckin awful and the fact you're trying to cope this hard is impressive. The bar is that low for you
>>
>>223589568
>The "manhunters" are not real manhunters
Manhunters aren't real, you know this, right? They're a fictional creation from a comic book. In fact, every character this show is.
>They never say their catchphase not one time.
Not vital to telling a good story in any way. Just something to satisfy the people who read the wikipedia entries and want to try to gatekeep the character because their only personality trait is clinging to nerdshit
>One guy has a ring they share it sometimes
Oh, a ring, like in Green Lantern?
>the ring is dead or dying 80% of the show
Much like classic GL comics, or like Spidey's web shooters. It's always been a story-telling device/contrivance.
>Willpower is never mentioned in the show
Willpower was not a part of Green Lantern lore until the Geoff Johns run. He's the one who makes up the whole idea of the emotional spectrum of colours and there being ring-based entities. Before that, the ring was simply a power ring. I actually kind of love it that the show and the DCU at large is not digging their feet into that specific take just yet (if they ever do)
>Sinestro is show show sitting down 95% of the time he's on screen
Didn't even need to be there, honestly. But was happy to have him and loved anytime he spoke to the characters because you could then see his true power of manipulation at work.
>Gets knocked out with one punch from a human without a fight
Tends to happen to most people who aren't powered up and get a strong punch.

You've yet to comment on anything that has to do with story-telling. I watch shows because I want to be invested in the characters, the setting, the journey. I don't watch shows because I want friends or people online to know how much of the Green Lantern wiki I've read.

Yes.
Also by making it high rated and thus for ""adults"" they can get away with having minimal cgi intensive scenes one would expect from something with super heroes and instead have 95% of each episode be about two persons talking/arguing in a barely furnished room.

There's more R-Rated content for it than PG-13 right now. Which makes it seem they're going for the adult audience.

Guy is an actual superhero, he almost single handendly stopped a genocidal war, and in all his interactions in this show, John acts like Guy is dirt under his shoes.
>>

>>
>>223591811
The Guy is this show doesn't evn match the Guy from the Superman movie, he literally challenges Superman to fight in it, fucking Superman.
And in this show he bitchs out from facing John that's wearing a stolen ring and using a knockoff lantern.
This is doublt retarded when you compare his powerlevel in the movie to anything Hal and John did in the show, Guy was summoning gigantic objects instantly and even making hands sprout from the ground away from his ring, Hal and John didn't do anything close to it.

The ring is programmed to prevent users from using lethal force on enemies. So I'd imagine other things that could cause immense physical or psychological trauma such as rape might also be accounted for
>>
>>223591879
>>223591811
being a pair of retards, you forgot that Guy was only challenging Superman immediately after the video of his parents telling him to conquer earth leaked to the press.

Guy didn't want to fight John, actually kind of likes him, and doesn't see him as a danger to Earth. he fetched Hal's ring knowing John was probably going to steal it but cares about optics so is pretending otherwise.

the only issue I had with the ending was the slightly ridiculous idea that Guy is going to go live in space now just because John wants him to.

The whole trend of making previously G rated superheroes more gritty and realistic has been done for more than 30 years. There isn't a superhero in existence that hasn't gotten this treatment, either in cinema or in comic books, cause it sells to both edgy kids who want to see blood and swears, and edgy adults who want their to see their childhood superheroes be more "adult" and "realistic". And they get away with this while not affecting their more general audience hits from back in the day because it's an alternate universe or a different timeline, and they can use that infinite excuse to keep changing the characters, story, and tone for whatever they think will make the most money. Fact is today nobody really gives a shit about being polite or cleaning up their language, I see more parents everyday who think its funny when their little kid swears instead of discipline them and try to teach them about polite language. At the end of the day, it's all just fiction for entertainment, and it should be the responsibility of a parent to either sufficiently supervise and shield them from such content, or better yet, guide them through it and teach them about social rules and norms rather than prohibiting it altogether just because you're too lazy or uncomfortable to have a difficult conversation with your child.

Did I miss something? Why is everyone so sympathetic to Zoe? the entire town is foaming at the mouth because she was killed, Noah was talking to John like he murdered her in cold blood for no reason. Did they miss the part where she was using Orbital lasers to blow up the town? Noah had visited that dead world, so he must be aware that his grandmother wiped out multiple planets. Even John himself acted like he was sorry he killed her when she was literally in the middle of a rampage.

And what hell was with Kerry just randomly shooting Hal in the head during an emotional outburst? he wasn't even saying he was going to kill Noah, just that they should go somewhere safe where he won't be a threat to anyone. I could understand if Noah had killed Hal due to his Manhunter instincts, but Kerry was seemingly just being a retard.
