Why did it fly so far under the radar? A sci-fi horror film starring people like Jake Gyllenhaal, Rebecca Ferguson, Ryan Reynolds, and Hiroyuki Sanada is not a common thing.
>>
>>223587860
Wasn't this full of retarded scientists? It's the bane of many sci fi films
>>
All I know about this movie is that Gyllenhaal and Ferguson hated Ryan Reynolds so much that they can barely contain their anger even when interviewed
>>
>>223587905
can't blame them
>>
>>223587860
Probably because it's not that great
>>
>>223587860
i like it. dont care what everyone says
>>
Serviceable but very unoriginal, and there's nothing deeper inside.
>>
>>223587905
link
>>
Really shitty movie
>>
where the fuck is the sequel?
>>
>>223588804
Never got one written
>>
>>223589192
grok write sequel to mummy alien movie,
make no mistakes
>>
>>223587885
Yes there were way too many things that went wrong due to purely idiotic and unsafe decisions they made. People dying because no one has a brain gets a bit dull.
>>
>>223587860
I really enjoyed it going into it with NO expectations. It's a fun horror-sci fi-slop. Don't expect everyone to 5D the CGI fake alien that doesn't exist with the space project that doesn't exist with technology that doesn't exist
>>
>>223587860
Movie would have made an extra $50 million had it had a graphic scene of Rebecca Ferguson getting tentacle raped by the alien in all her holes
>>
the only good thing about this shit is the scientists deaths specially ryan and fergursons
>>
>>223590006
Ryan Reynolds's death is iconic. Very tense scene.
>>
>>223587860
Weird marketing, which was the best thing about it.
They didn’t give the game away that it was a nasty, mean-spirited horror film which was a brilliant move for the people who bothered to see it. Problem is, it wasn’t obvious what it actually was for people who didn’t. Just a vague space movie with Ryan Reynolds
>>
>>223588804
Did you watch the film? There can literally not be a sequel
>>
>>223588804
it's called Venom
>>
>>223587860
Dumb as fuck ending that relied on shock value rather than basic orbital mechanics, if the orbit of the ISS failed and it was going to enter the atmosphere, then the chicks escape pod wouldn't just magically fly off into space as it would be in the same orbit as the ISS because it launched from there, meaning it would still end up getting back to Earth
>>
>>223587860
Calvin was a mary sue
>>
>>223587860
The only thing interesting about it was the twist ending.
>>
>>223587860
Because it's not very good. It's a cool creature design with two competent scenes (the arm break and Reynolds getting glurked) but it's hampered by the fact that an entire crew full of scientists make consistently retarded decisions for the whole fucking movie.

Horror is at its best when people do increasingly smart or daring things to deal with a threat which responds with increasingly smart or dangerous reactions. The scientists spend half the movie going out of there way to put themselves into situations where they're easy pickings instead of getting out of danger only for Calvin to react by escalating the threat.
>>
>>223590513
Do you seriously think that General audiences care more about orbital mechanics than shock value
>>
>>223590727
They should!
>>
>>223590855
Touché
>>
>>223590727
While I do not think they care, It goes to Op's question
It's not a good movie if it relies on shock value alone for it's ending
As a sci fi fan, It's just there, 5/10
If you add up stupid scientists, and shock value ending undermining what little can be saved about the stupid scientist, you can't give it more than that
>>
>>223587860
bc Ryan Reynolds was there too long. Should've been like Seagal in Executive Decision (1996) -- squashed in the first act:
>"Now you see me; NOPE."
>>
>>223587860
Hacky but the final scene is great. Could've set up for a much better film of deep sea creature feature.

it was good. 7/10
>>
>>223587860
Because it's less than the sum of its parts. Someone who likes the genre probably watched it once and never returned to it.
>>
>>223587860
the ending felt mean-spirited
>>
It didn't "fly under the radar". This movie just sucks ass.
>>
>>223588008
I was okay with that tho. If I remember correctly, at the time, there wasn't a whole lot of scifi in theatres.
>>
I loved this movie, you are all partypoopers
>>
The alien was so broken that it could somehow squeeze through airtight holes in the ship while in the vaccuum of space.
>>
>>223588804
resident evil this year is the sequel basically
>>223590275
the new resident evil works more
>>
The way the creature absorbs the mouse is haunting
And its kinetic bashing of the Russian astronauts, brutal
>>
>>223587860
Fuck. One of the few movies that made me feel even a slight amount of horror.
>>
>>223587860
it was a good movie
any recommendations for similar ones?
