Gee I wonder why everyone is addicted to subtitles now
>reading bad
>>223589337only using headphones and can't hear words over the other bullshit
When did this trend start?
>>223589539late 70s, but the biggest criminal in modern times is 100% nolan
>>223589539nu-horror movies are the worst offenders. that shit is almost entirely about sudden loud noises now (Obsession was like a parody of this). but on TV mostly it's probably a strategy to try to get people to look up from their phone.
>>223589539when people started buying flat TVs with two shitty small speakers while sound mixers started mixing for 7.1 surround sound theaters
>>223589606No, people already caught on, that the two speakers in their TV are absolute crap. They already switched over to having two absolute crap speakers in their soundbar.
>>223589476they don't* expect you to wear headphones when watching a movie or show. With surround speakers, every speaker has its own purpose. The center speaker is almost always meant for dialogue. With headphones everything is mixed into one, forcing soft dialogue with loud sounds and music. Dialogue will be hard to hear and sound effects extremely loud.In other words, watch it in a theatre or get a proper surround set where sound is the most natural.
>>223589760why not just have 3 audio mixes and let people choose?>movie theater>good equipment at home>dogshit everything else
>>223589844>movie theater>good equipment at homeOne good mix should work for both of these.>dogshit everything elseThis one would be difficult because not every dogshit setup is dogshit in the same way. Mixing for shitty headphones doesn't necessarily mean it's going to be acceptable from horrible TV speakers.
